EDD Phone Nightmare: Tips for Getting Through to CA Unemployment?

Has anyone else had trouble getting through to EDD lately? I've been trying to call them for days and can't get a hold of anyone. I paid for a callback service last time but they didn't even call me. Now I've paid again and I'm hoping they actually call this time. It's so frustrating trying to get help with unemployment issues. Anyone have any tips or tricks for getting through to a real person?

Anyone else getting conflicting info from different EDD reps? It's like they're not even on the same page.

ALL THE TIME. It's so frustrating. I've started recording my calls (with their permission) just to keep track.

Another thing to keep in mind is to regularly check your EDD account online for any updates or notifications. Sometimes they update your status there before you'll ever hear back by phone. And if you do get through to someone on the phone, having screenshots of your online account activity can help clarify any discrepancies you encounter.

Here's what I've learned after months of dealing with EDD: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if it feels hopeless. 2. Try different times of day. Early morning and late afternoon seem to work best. 3. Use the online portal as much as possible to avoid phone calls. 4. If you do get through, be super nice to the rep. They deal with angry people all day. 5. Have all your info ready before you call. Claim number, SSN, employment history, etc. 6. If one rep can't help, politely ask to speak to a tier 2 specialist. 7. Document everything. Write down who you talked to and what they said. Hope this helps someone. We're all in the same boat here.

Same here. It's like they're purposely making it difficult to discourage people from claiming benefits.

I actually had some success by sending a detailed email to EDD explaining my situation and following it up with a call. It took a while, but I eventually got a callback. If you can find the correct email address, it might be worth a try.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I've had some luck getting through early in the morning, but it's still hit or miss.

You might also want to consider reaching out to a local unemployment office in your area. Sometimes they have resources or contacts that can help expedite the process. It may take some persistence, but in-person or direct local contact can sometimes work wonders.

Guys, I finally got through after 2 months of trying! Here's what worked for me: 1. Called at exactly 8:01 AM 2. Used the 2511 number 3. Pressed 1, then 2, then 4 4. Crossed my fingers and sacrificed a small goat to the EDD gods Okay, maybe not that last one, but you get the idea. Don't give up hope!

I have had a similar experience with Claimyr but had some success. It connected me to an EDD agent after a few tries. It's definitely a paid service, and while it can be a lifesaver, the cost can add up if you make multiple attempts. Keep in mind that some users have reported mixed results, so it seems to depend on timing and other factors. It could be worth a shot if you're at a dead end with other methods.

Pro tip: use the comma trick when calling. When you hear the recording say "we're experiencing high call volume," start rapidly pressing comma (,) on your keypad. Sometimes it'll glitch you through to an agent. Worked for me twice!

Wait, you paid for a callback service? Which one did you use? Did it actually work?

0 coins

-

Cass Green

Yeah, I used a service called Claimyr. It's supposed to call and wait on hold for you, then connect you when they get through. It didn't work the first time, but I'm trying again. Fingers crossed 🀞

Sounds sketchy. Be careful with those services, some of them are scams.

0 coins

-

7M

Amelia Dietrich

I think it’s important to recognize that services like Claimyr, while potentially useful, highlight a larger issue with the EDD's accessibility. While $20 might not seem like a lot for some, it's an added expense for those who are already in financial distress. Ideally, public services should be more accessible without the need for third-party assistance.

0 coins

-

Kaiya Rivera

Absolutely agree. The need for such services points to a system that could use improvements in user accessibility.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😑

0 coins

-

7M

Henry Delgado

How does it work exactly? Seems too good to be true.

0 coins

-

7M

Ryder Ross

I know it sounds crazy, but it really does work. They use some kind of auto-dialer tech to get through the menu and wait on hold. When an agent picks up, they forward the call to you. Saved me hours of frustration.
