EDD California: Tips to reach a real person when filing unemployment claim?

So I'm trying to file a claim with EDD and I'm having the worst time getting through to anyone. I've been calling for days and can't even get put on hold. Has anyone else had this problem? Any tips on how to actually talk to a real person there? I'm getting desperate and don't know what else to do.

Hey OP, what kind of claim are you trying to file? Regular UI, PUA, or something else? Might help to know for more specific advice.

0 coins

-

Connor Richards

It's a regular UI claim. First time filing, so I'm pretty lost.

Once you get through, make sure to clarify that it's your first time. They might have extra guidance.

Have you tried contacting your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through.

Connor Richards

I didn't even know that was an option. How do I find out who my assembly member is?

Ryan Vasquez

Just google "[your city] assembly member". They usually have a contact form on their website.

Definitely worth a try. Sometimes they can get things done faster than we can.

Have you tried faxing your claim? I know it sounds archaic, but sometimes old school methods work when everything else fails.

Marcus Williams

Old school but sometimes it's the unexpected methods that get results.

Has anyone tried using the online portal? I know it's not great, but I managed to file my claim there without having to call.

Online portal is a joke. Half the time it's down for "maintenance" ๐Ÿ™„

I tried, but it kept giving me an error. That's why I'm trying to call now.

Sometimes tech support can help with the portal errors, worth contacting if the issue persists.

Here's what worked for me after months of trying: 1. Call exactly at 8:01 AM. Not 8:00, not 8:02. Exactly 8:01. 2. When you hear the automated message, immediately press 1, then 2, then 4. 3. If you get the "we're too busy" message, hang up and try again. 4. Repeat until you get put on hold. It took me about 20 tries, but I finally got through. Be prepared to wait on hold for a while once you do get in the queue. Also, make sure you have all your info ready - they'll ask for your SSN, last employer details, etc. Good luck!

Pro tip: if you do get through, ask for a tier 2 specialist right away. The first person you talk to usually can't do much.

-

Justin Chang

That's a great tip! Tier 2 specialists often have more authority to resolve complex issues.

Guys, I just saw on the news that EDD is "improving their system". Yeah right, I'll believe it when I see it. ๐Ÿคก

I'll believe it when I see consistent improvements. It's about time though.

Navigating the EDD system can indeed be a daunting task. Many individuals have faced similar challenges, especially during times when the call volume is exceedingly high. One alternative to traditional methods is using services like Claimyr, which has reportedly helped some people by bypassing the long hold times. However, while some users attest to its effectiveness, others feel that paying $20 for phone assistance might not be justified for everyone, especially those on tight budgets. Before opting for such services, consider free alternatives like reaching out to your local assembly member's office for assistance, or utilizing any updated online portals or resources provided by EDD. Furthermore, determining the exact type of claim you're filing and gathering all necessary documents beforehand can smoothen the process once you make contact. Persistence is key, but exploring all available channels and staying informed on system updates can also be beneficial in managing your claim effectively.

This is a great summary of options. Exploring as many avenues as possible seems like the best approach.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Totally legit. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. It worked like a charm.

I get it, but after wasting hours trying to get through, it was worth it for me.

I've heard mixed reviews. Some say it's worth it if you're really desperate, but others think it's too expensive for what it is.

Welcome to the club, buddy. We're all in the same boat here. I've been trying to reach them for weeks now. It's like they've gone into hiding or something.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a joke. It's like they're purposely making it hard for us to get help. ๐Ÿคฌ
