SSA identity verification issues after ID.me discontinuation - need help ASAP!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble verifying my identity for SSA benefits. They're not using ID.me anymore due to some court case, and now I'm stuck. Has anyone else dealt with this? What are my options for verifying my identity now? I really need to get this sorted out ASAP.

I found a way to solve SSA identity verification issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVsreZ0C_4k

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. It's so frustrating! I've been trying to get this sorted for weeks. Have you tried going to a local SSA office? I heard that might be an option.

•I haven't tried that yet. Do you know if I need to make an appointment or can I just walk in?

•Last I checked, you need an appointment. But tbh, their system is so messed up, you might have better luck just showing up 🤷♂️

•I went to my local office last week. It was a NIGHTMARE. Waited for hours only to be told they couldn't help me. Total waste of time. 😡

I found a way to get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Z-BRbJw3puU

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary. Still way better than being stuck on hold yourself!

Here's what worked for me: 1. Gather all your documents (SS card, gov ID, recent SSA letters) 2. Write a clear, concise email explaining your situation 3. Request alternative verification methods 4. Send to your local SSA office (find email on SSA website) 5. Follow up with a phone call after a few days It took some persistence, but I finally got it sorted. Good luck!

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely give this a try. Did you use a specific subject line for your email?

•Yep! I used "Urgent: Request for Alternative Identity Verification Method". Seemed to get their attention.

This whole system is a joke. Why can't they just have a simple, straightforward process? It's like they WANT us to fail. 🤡

Has anyone tried faxing their documents? I know it sounds archaic, but I heard from a friend that it worked for them.

•Faxing? What is this, 1995? 😂 But hey, if it works, it works!

Pro tip: If you're emailing them, make sure to include your full name, date of birth, and last 4 of your SSN in the email. Makes it easier for them to look up your account.

•Is that safe tho? Sending personal info over email seems risky...

•Fair point. Maybe just stick to full name and DOB then. Better safe than sorry!

Anyone else feel like we're playing a game of bureaucratic whack-a-mole? Solve one problem, another pops up. It's exhausting.

•Tell me about it. I've been dealing with this for months. Starting to feel like a part-time job just managing all this nonsense.

Hey OP, have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They sometimes have liaisons who can help navigate SSA issues.

•I hadn't even thought of that! Great idea, I'll look into it. Thanks!

Guys, I just saw on Twitter that SSA is supposedly rolling out a new online verification system next month. Might be worth waiting for that if you can.

•Source? Last thing we need is more misinformation...

•Fair enough. It was from @SSANews but you're right, we should take it with a grain of salt until it's official.

Hey Mateo! I went through this exact same nightmare a few months ago. Here's what finally worked for me: I called the SSA main number (1-800-772-1213) early in the morning (like 8 AM sharp) and kept pressing 0 to get to a human. It took several tries, but I eventually got through to someone who walked me through the new verification process. They can do identity verification over the phone now using a series of questions about your credit history and past addresses. Also, make sure you have your most recent SSA statement handy - they'll ask for specific info from it. Don't give up! The system is messy right now but there are ways through it.

•This is super helpful! I'm dealing with the same issue and had no idea they could do phone verification now. Quick question - do you remember roughly how long the phone verification process took once you got through to someone? And did they require any specific documents during the call?

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! It's been such a headache since they stopped using ID.me. I tried calling multiple times but kept getting disconnected or stuck on hold forever. Reading through these comments, I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling strategy and see if I can get the phone verification process. Also thinking about reaching out to my congressperson's office like Giovanni suggested - didn't even know that was an option. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it's helpful to know I'm not alone in this mess!
