NY unemployment ID.me verification stuck for 3 weeks - can't claim benefits

I've been trying to verify my identity through ID.me for my NY unemployment claim for almost 3 weeks now. The system keeps saying my verification is "pending review" but nothing happens. I uploaded all my documents (drivers license, SSN card, and a utility bill) but it's just stuck. Can't get through to anyone on the phone either. My benefits are on hold until this is resolved and I'm getting desperate. Has anyone else dealt with this ID.me verification delay? Any tips on how to speed up the process or get someone to actually look at my case?

same thing happened 2 me last month!! took FOREVER. the id.me thing is terrible, waited 5 weeks b4 it finally went thru. try calling right when they open at 8am

5 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long! Did you do anything that finally made it go through or did it just randomly start working?

The ID.me verification process can get stuck in a loop sometimes. Three things you should try: 1. Try logging into ID.me directly (not through the NYSDOL portal) and check your verification status there 2. Request a video verification call through ID.me - this often bypasses the document review delay 3. Make sure all your documents are clear and the information matches exactly across all documents If none of that works, you'll need to speak with an unemployment agent directly to have them push your verification through on their end.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just checked ID.me directly and it shows my verification as complete on their end! But the unemployment system still shows it as pending. So it seems like the issue is with NYSDOL not getting the verification from ID.me. Now I definitely need to talk to someone at unemployment.

When this happened to me I just gave up for a week then tried again with a different email address. Worked immediately the second time. Maybe their system just glitches with certain accounts?

Creating multiple accounts isn't recommended as it can potentially flag your claim for fraud review and cause even longer delays. If ID.me shows the verification as complete, the issue is with the data transfer to NYSDOL, not with the ID.me account itself.

I had the EXACT same problem in January!!! It's so frustrating because without the ID.me verification, your benefits just sit there on hold and no one tells you what's happening. I spent 3 days calling nonstop and couldn't get through to anyone. I was panicking because my rent was due and I had no income coming in. Have you tried the ID.me help desk directly? They weren't helpful to me but maybe you'll have better luck?

I tried contacting ID.me support but they just said my verification was complete on their end and that I need to contact NYSDOL. It's this endless circle where nobody takes responsibility. Did you ever get your issue resolved? How long did it take?

After dealing with the same ID.me nightmare for weeks, I finally got through to an actual person at unemployment using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have this service that basically calls for you and gets you in the phone queue without having to redial hundreds of times. Costs money but totally worth it - the agent I spoke with was able to manually verify that my ID.me was complete and release my payments within 24 hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - saved me after weeks of frustration.

is that thing legit? seems sketchy to pay someone just to make a phone call for you

I'm a volunteer who helps people with unemployment issues. Here's what's actually happening with ID.me verifications: 1. ID.me is a third-party service that verifies your identity 2. Once verified, they send that confirmation to NYSDOL 3. NYSDOL then has to process that confirmation in their system 4. This final step is where delays often happen If ID.me shows you're verified but NYSDOL still shows pending, that means the data transfer between systems is where things got stuck. You need to speak with a NYSDOL agent who can manually check your verification status and update it in their system. Unfortunately, this requires getting through on the phone. In the meantime, continue certifying for benefits each week - once the ID verification issue is resolved, you'll receive all back payments for weeks properly certified.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! This is exactly what seems to be happening. I've been certifying every week but it's stressful not knowing when/if the money will come through. I'll keep trying to reach someone by phone.

Listen the whole system is RIGGED to make it impossible to get benefits!!! They MAKE the ID.me process complicated on purpose so people will give up. I went through this twice last year and both times I had to contact my state assembly person to get it fixed. The unemployment office suddenly found my ID verification within 24 hours after my assembly person contacted them. Funny how that works!!! Don't waste time with their broken phone system - go straight to your local representative!

That's a good idea about contacting my assembly person. I hadn't thought of that. Do I just call their office and explain the situation? Did you have to provide any documentation to them?

Just call their constituency office, tell them you're a resident in their district having unemployment issues. They'll take your info and contact NYSDOL on your behalf. MUCH faster than trying to deal with unemployment directly. Bring them VOTES and they'll help you, that's how it works!!

ppl saying its a glitch r wrong. nysdol is just SUPER backed up rn. my friend works there n says they have thousands of verifications to process manually. its not a glitch its just slow

Has anyone had luck with the NYSDOL callback feature? I put my number in for a callback but it's been 4 days and nothing...

UPDATE: I finally got this resolved! After trying everything, what finally worked was using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Got connected to an agent in about 40 minutes. The agent confirmed my ID.me verification was complete on their end but hadn't been properly linked to my unemployment account. She manually updated it in their system, and my pending payments were released the next day. So relieved this nightmare is over. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

Great to hear you got it resolved! For anyone else facing this issue, remember to: 1. Check ID.me directly first to confirm your verification status there 2. Continue certifying weekly while waiting for resolution 3. If stuck for more than 2 weeks, escalate through any means necessary (phone, representatives, etc.) The system isn't perfect, but persistence usually pays off eventually.
