Waiting 3 weeks after NY unemployment ID.me verification - still no payment

Has anyone else waited forever after completing the ID.me verification? I verified my identity through ID.me almost 3 weeks ago for my NY unemployment claim and still haven't received a single payment. My account just says 'pending' with no explanation. I've submitted all the requested documents and passed the verification process (got the confirmation email and everything), but it's like my claim is stuck in limbo. I'm getting really stressed because bills are piling up. Is this normal in 2025 or is something wrong with my claim? How long did it take for your payments to start after ID.me verification?

mine took 10 days back in january... 3 weeks seems way too long tbh

Ugh, that makes me even more worried. Did you do anything special to speed things up?

My sister just went through this!! It took her like 25 days to get her first payment after ID.me. The system is SO backed up right now, its ridiculous!!

That's somewhat reassuring I guess... did she have to call anyone or did it just randomly start working?

she just kept certifying every week and then one day she got like 3 payments all at once! so dont stop certifying!!

Three weeks is definitely longer than normal, but not completely unusual in the current system. The NYSDOL is experiencing significant processing delays this quarter. After ID.me verification, payments typically process within 7-14 days. Since you're past that window, I suggest taking these steps: 1. Continue certifying weekly without fail 2. Check your message inbox on the portal for any requests for additional information 3. Verify your payment method is correctly set up (direct deposit info, etc.) 4. Call NYSDOL to check if there's a specific hold on your account The most common reason for post-verification delays is an additional review flag that wasn't communicated clearly to you. Don't panic yet - most claims do process, just sometimes with frustrating delays.

Thank you for the detailed response! I've been certifying religiously and double-checked my direct deposit info. Nothing in my inbox about additional documents needed. I've tried calling at least 15 times but can never get through to an actual person - just get the automated system and then it hangs up because of 'high call volume.' It's so frustrating!

I was stuck in the same situation last month! After my ID.me verification, I waited 18 days with nothing happening. Turns out there was a secondary review happening on my case that nobody bothered to tell me about. The ONLY way I got it resolved was by actually speaking to an agent. I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual person at NYSDOL within about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. The agent told me my account had a fraud review flag (despite passing ID.me) and they cleared it while I was on the phone. Got my payments 2 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get these things fixed, especially when it's been this long with no updates.

is that service legit? sounds too good to be true with how impossible it is to get through

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm getting desperate at this point. Did they explain why there was a secondary review after you already passed ID.me? That seems ridiculous.

OMG the ID.me verification is THE WORST!!! I had to wait almost a MONTH after verification before seeing a penny!!! The system is completely BROKEN! And don't even get me started on trying to call them - I wasted HOURS of my life listening to that stupid hold music only to get disconnected!!! What worked for me was filing a complaint with my state assembly person. Seriously. I filled out their constituent services form explaining my situation and someone from their office called me back THE NEXT DAY. They have special contacts at NYSDOL and got my claim pushed through within a week after that. The regular customer service line is useless - you need someone with connections to fix this!!

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought about contacting my assembly person. I'll try that route too. Did you have to provide them with any specific information about your claim?

Just your basic info - claim ID number, when you filed, when you did ID.me, and how long you've been waiting. They'll ask for everything they need. They deal with HUNDREDS of these cases every month, it's insane!!!

my cousins friend had same issue cuz he answered one of the id.me questions wrong even tho his account was verified. might wanna double check all ur answers were correct

This is actually a common misconception. The ID.me verification is a pass/fail system - you either successfully verify or you don't. If you received a confirmation email stating your identity was verified, then you passed the ID.me process completely. Any delays after that point are happening on the NYSDOL side, not related to your answers during the ID.me verification.

I work with unemployment cases frequently, and I can tell you that the current backlog at NYSDOL after ID.me verification is substantial. Here's what's likely happening in your case: After ID.me verification, your claim enters a queue for final review by a NYSDOL examiner. This step is where the biggest delays occur. Currently, this queue is averaging 14-21 days, but can take up to 30 days in some cases. Three important points: 1. This is not your fault, and there's likely nothing wrong with your claim. It's simply waiting for an examiner to review and approve it. 2. At the three-week mark, you're actually justified in escalating this issue. The department's own guidelines state that post-verification reviews should be completed within 21 days. 3. Continue certifying weekly benefits even without payment. Once approved, you'll receive all back payments for correctly certified weeks. To resolve this faster, you need to speak directly with a claims examiner who can manually review and approve your claim. Unfortunately, general call center representatives don't have this authority.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! It helps to understand what's happening behind the scenes. I'm definitely going to try to reach a claims examiner somehow - whether through Claimyr, my assembly person, or just continuing to call multiple times a day. It's reassuring to know I'll eventually get the back payments if I keep certifying.

YES!!! They laid off a bunch of staff in December after the budget cuts and now everything takes FOREVER!!! My friend who works in state government told me they're operating with like 30% fewer people processing claims this year. Total disaster!!!

Just wanted to update everyone - I FINALLY got through to someone at NYSDOL! I used the Claimyr service mentioned above and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes (after trying for weeks on my own with no luck). Turns out my claim had a random "additional verification needed" flag on it, even though I'd already done ID.me. The agent was able to clear it immediately and said I should see all my back payments within 3-5 business days. She couldn't explain why it got flagged or why nobody contacted me about it. Thank you all for your help and suggestions! For anyone else stuck in ID.me verification limbo - definitely try to speak with an actual person rather than just waiting. The system doesn't seem to resolve these issues automatically.

Glad to hear you got it resolved! That's exactly what happened in my case too - some mysterious flag that only a human agent could clear. The system really needs to be improved to better communicate these issues to claimants.

This is a common resolution pattern. For reference, what you experienced is called a "secondary verification hold" in their system. These are often automatically applied based on various risk algorithms and require manual clearance. Good job being persistent - and this is a reminder to everyone that continuing to certify during these delays is crucial so you receive all eligible back payments.
