Which ID documents work for TWC ID.me verification if I don't have my SS card?
Help!! I just got a message from TWC saying I need to verify my identity through ID.me to continue getting my benefits. I have my driver's license but I don't have a hard copy of my social security card or birth certificate (moved recently and these are still packed away somewhere). Can I use my passport instead of those documents? Has anyone done the ID.me verification recently? What combos of documents actually work? I'm freaking out because I really can't afford to have my benefits delayed right now.

Yes, you can absolutely use your passport! I just went through ID.me verification last month. A passport is actually one of the best documents you can have because it counts as both a primary photo ID AND proof of citizenship, so it simplifies things. When you start the verification process, you'll see a list of acceptable documents and passport is definitely on there. Just make sure you have good lighting when you take the photos of your documents and your selfie.

•Thank you SO MUCH! That's a huge relief. I was worried I'd have to dig through all my boxes to find those documents. Do you remember how long it took for your benefits to continue after verification?

I tried to use my ID and health insurance card and they REJECTED it!! Had to start over with different documents. The whole system is designed to DELAY your benefits and make you give up!!! I had to call TWC like 50 times before getting through to fix the mess the ID.me verification caused. They held my payments for WEEKS over this garbage.

•I had similar issues with the ID.me verification. After multiple failed attempts using different document combinations, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an actual TWC agent in about 10 minutes instead of calling repeatedly for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/V-IMvH88P1U?si=kNxmh025COIlIzKh. The agent was able to note my account that I was actively trying to complete verification and explained exactly which documents would work for my situation. Saved me a ton of stress.

According to the TWC guidelines, for ID.me verification you need documents from two categories: 1. Primary Photo ID (one of these): Driver's license, Passport, State ID, Military ID 2. Secondary Verification (one of these): Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, W-2 form, Tax Return, Utility Bill with your name and address, Health Insurance Card, Voter Registration Card A passport can sometimes satisfy both requirements in certain situations. If you have a W-2 or recent tax return, that would work as your secondary document. Some people also use a utility bill with their current address. The most important thing is to follow the exact instructions on the ID.me screen. They're very specific about photo quality and how to position documents.

•Thank you for breaking this down! I think I might have an old W-2 in my email somewhere if the passport alone doesn't work. This is really helpful!

•Please don't ignore ID.me verification requests. They're not sent by mistake, and ignoring them will eventually result in benefit payment stops and possibly even overpayment determinations. The system flags accounts randomly for security verification, and you must complete the process when requested.

I just went through this process last week! Here's what I learned: 1. Passport works great as a primary document 2. For secondary verification, I used a utility bill with my name/address 3. Make sure your selfie is in good lighting with a plain background 4. Have backup documents ready in case they reject something 5. Be prepared for the possibility of a video call verification if their automated system can't verify you (happened to me) Once verified, it took about 2 business days for my TWC account to update and payment processing to resume. Don't panic if it doesn't happen instantly!

•Oh no, I hope I don't have to do a video call! My internet connection is terrible. But thanks for the timeline - 2 days isn't too bad. I was worried it might take weeks.

Quick update on my earlier comment - I just double-checked and according to the ID.me help center, a U.S. passport counts as a "primary document" but you'll still need something for the secondary verification. Good options if you don't have your SS card are: - W-2 from last year - Recent tax return (doesn't need to be the full return, just the first page with your info) - Utility bill with your name and current address - Health insurance card Hope this helps clarify things!

•Thanks for the clarification! I think I can pull up an electronic copy of my health insurance card, so I'll try using that with my passport. Really appreciate everyone's help with this!
