NY Unemployment ID.me Verification - Need Document Showing Full SSN Within One Week

Trying to verify my identity for ny unemployment and I'm totally confused about the ID.me process. Got to the second step where they want a document with my full social security number on it. I thought my state ID would be enough but apparently not? I'm looking at the screen right now where it says "Select ONE document from the options below" and then lists all these documents that need to show my full SSN: • U.S. Social Security Card with full SSN • DOD Certificate of Discharge or Release with full SSN • SSA-1099 Form (or 1099-SM, 1099-R-OP1, etc.) with full SSN • Non SSA-1099 Form (or 1099-DIV, 1099-MISC, etc.) with full SSN • W-2 Form (or W-2C, W-2G, etc.) with full SSN • 1098 Form (or 1098-C, etc.) with full SSN • Bank, Loan, or Financial Institution Statement with full SSN (not older than 90 days) • Pay Stub with full SSN I don't have my social security card with me (it's at my parents' house in another state) and I don't keep paper copies of my W-2s. Most of my bank statements don't show my full SSN either. They're only giving me like a week to complete this before my claim gets flagged or something. I can see the "Go Back" and "Save & Exit" buttons at the bottom of the screen, but I really need to get through this verification. It looks like I need to select one of these options and then hit "Continue" to move forward, but I don't have any of these documents readily available with my full SSN on them! Can anyone tell me what worked for them? Is there a way around this or am I just screwed until I can get my parents to mail me my SS card? This whole system is so frustrating. Has anyone been able to use digital copies of these documents or found another solution?

I used my W-2 when I went through this last July. You should be able to download a copy from your employer's HR portal or from whatever tax service you used (TurboTax, H&R Block, etc). Most of those sites keep your documents for several years.

Just make sure the W-2 shows your full SSN and not just the last 4 digits. Some companies started masking all but last 4 for security reasons.

After wasting TWO WEEKS trying to get my ID verified, I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me a callback with an actual human agent who helped bypass all this ID.me nonsense. Talking to an agent got my benefits flowing again within 48 hours - best decision I ever made. Check out this video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

100% real. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after being stuck in verification hell. They basically just stay on hold for you and then call you when a real person picks up. Saved me hours of listening to that stupid hold music.

sounds like a scam to me... another 'miracle solution' that magically appears when ur desperate 🙄

not a scam at all. they don't even ask for any personal info about ur claim. they just call the dept and connect you when someone answers. my benefits were stuck for 3 months and after one phone call with an agent it was fixed. do what you want but this literally saved me from eviction

hold up - I think my friend mentioned this. isn't this the service where they just wait on hold for you? that's actually pretty genius ngl

I went through this same ID.me hell in September. If you filed taxes last year, you can create/login to an IRS account and download your tax transcript - that has your full SSN on it and they accepted mine. Or call your bank - some branches can print an official statement with your full SSN if you request it specifically.

The id.me system is SUCH GARBAGE. I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to get verified and kept getting stuck in an endless loop. Then when I finally uploaded everything they wanted, I got put in a 5 HOUR QUEUE to video chat with a "trusted referee" 🤮 The whole system is designed to make people give up on claiming benefits.

THISS!!! 💯 They purposely make it difficult so people quit trying. It's all a scam to save the govt money.

I had to wait 7 hours in that video chat queue. Started at 9pm and finally got someone at 4am. Total joke.

update: got through the video chat and the guy literally looked at my docs for 30 seconds and approved everything. 5 hour wait for a 30 second check. makes perfect sense 🙄

If ur still trying to figure out this ID.me mess, here's what I learned after dealing with NY unemployment verification: 1. Your SS card is the most straightforward option if you can get it 2. Most recent W-2 works great (download from employer portal) 3. IRS tax transcript is accepted (can get online free) 4. Some credit card statements show full SSN (check all ur accounts) 5. Last resort: call and request a verification code by mail The BEST way to resolve identity issues is to actually speak with an agent. After wasting days with ID.me, I used claimyr.com to get a callback from unemployment and explained my situation. The agent was able to verify me over the phone with just my ID and some basic info about my work history. Way faster than this ID.me circus.

This is super helpful info - thank you! Did you have any issues with the agent when they called you back?

Nope! The agent was actually super nice. I think they're just as frustrated with ID.me as we are. They verified me with just basic questions about my past employers and when I filed my claim.

anyone else get approved for benefits and then immediately put on hold for "identity verification"? feels like a scam to delay payments. been waiting 3 weeks now smh

Yep happened to me too. They're doing this to everyone now bc of all the fraud during covid.

FYI state laws require them to give you benefits while your identity is being verified if it takes more than 10 days. Keep certifying every week even if they're not paying you! Once verified they have to backpay everything.

is this true??? i've been waiting almost a month with no payments...

Yes, look up "10-day rule" for unemployment. They can't indefinitely withhold benefits while they verify. Call and cite this when you speak to an agent.

This isn't completely accurate. They CAN withhold if there's a "reasonable suspicion" of identity issues. The 10-day rule applies to other types of holds.

That's partially true but they still need to make a determination within a reasonable timeframe. If it goes beyond 30 days you should be requesting escalation to a supervisor.

I just went through this last week! Had the same problem. Just request the trusted referee video call option. They'll do a video verification where you show your photo ID and answer some questions. I didnt have any of those docs with my full SSN either, but the video call worked fine.

Did you have to wait in a long queue for the video call?

yeah it was like 3 hours 😭 but still faster than waiting for my parents to mail my SS card. Just put on netflix while you wait.
