PSA: NY unemployment tax forms (1099s) now available online - download ASAP before they disappear
Just found out the 2022 tax forms are finally available on the New York unemployment portal as of yesterday. If you got benefits last year, go download your 1099G form RIGHT NOW. Don't wait on this! Last April, they disappeared from the system for almost 3 weeks and customer service was absolutely useless about it. Take screenshots, download PDFs, print physical copies - do whatever you need to do to save that document. Tax deadline is coming up fast and you'll need this form to file correctly. Don't get stuck waiting like I did last year when they randomly took them offline for "maintenance" or whatever excuse they gave.

Thank you for the heads up! Just logged in and grabbed mine. You're a lifesaver, I would've probably waited until last minute otherwise.

After weeks of getting absolutely nowhere trying to reach ny unemployment by phone, I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback from an actual human agent within 2 hours!! Talking to a real person finally got all my issues fixed and my tax forms sorted. It was the best money I've spent all year considering how much I was owed. Here's a video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•This sounds kinda sketchy tbh... does it actually work? 🤔

•Totally get why you'd be suspicious. I was too at first. But yeah it does work - it basically just keeps calling for you so YOU don't have to spend hours on hold. When someone finally picks up, it connects you.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried like 37 different 'tricks' to get through to unemployment and NOTHING works

•It worked for me 🤷♀️ I was just as desperate as everyone else after trying for weeks. The difference is they have some tech that keeps dialing automatically. When they get through, you get a call.

•hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

•I used it too after seeing it mentioned here. Got a callback in like 90 mins when I'd been trying for days on my own. Definitely not BS.

•Try clearing your browser cache, sometimes the site gets wonky with saved passwords. And check if your caps lock is on lol (happens to me all the time

•tried that already. even tried different browsers. still nothing. this system is such garbage

•The same thing happened to me! I had to request a password reset link like 3 times before it actually worked. Their system is total 💩

WAIT make sure ya'll verify the amounts on your 1099-G too! Mine showed about $2,300 less than what I actually received. Called in and apparently there was some kind of "calculation error" affecting multiple accounts. Check your bank statements against what's reported!

•Oh snap for real?? Now I gotta go double check mine. Thanks for flagging this!

Can't find it anywhere on the site. Where exactly do you go to download the 1099? I swear the NY unemployment website was designed by monkeys 🐒

The whole NY unemployment system has been a nightmare from start to finish. Got laid off in October, waited 8 weeks for my first payment, now I can't even access my tax forms because they claim my account doesn't exist? HOW? I've been collecting benefits for months!

•Same boat. Try using claimyr.com - only way I could talk to an actual person who fixed my account issues.

LPT: Save your 1099-G as a PDF, then upload it to both Google Drive AND Dropbox. I've had too many hard drives fail over the years to trust just one backup. The NY unemployment system is too unreliable to count on accessing it again if you need it.

For all of you struggling with accessing your 1099-G or other NY unemployment issues, here's what's worked for me and others I know: 1. Try logging in during off-peak hours (before 8am or after 8pm) when the system isn't overloaded 2. Use Chrome in incognito mode - some browser extensions can interfere with the site 3. If you can't get through on the phone after multiple attempts, use Claimyr.com - it's a service that keeps dialing for you and connects you with an agent when they answer. I was skeptical but it worked when nothing else did. 4. Document EVERYTHING - screenshot confirmation numbers, save emails, write down who you spoke with and when 5. If things get really desperate, contact your state representative's office. They often have direct channels to DOL staff 6. Join the NY unemployment Facebook groups where people share workarounds for common issues The system is broken, but we're all dealing with the same mess. Hope this helps someone!

•Happened to my cousin! Got a letter saying he owed $7k back after they approved him for benefits. System is rigged.

•THIS!! They told me I owed $4,200 and when I finally got someone on the phone they were like 'oh that was a mistake' but it took 3 months to resolve!

does anyone know if you need the 1099-G if you only got benefits for like 2 weeks? or is there some minimum amount before they issue one?

•If you got ANY unemployment money, you need the 1099-G. Even $1 has to be reported to the IRS.

i dont see my 1099 anywhere on the site and when i call it just hangs up on me after 2 hours on hold. anyone know how to request a paper copy by mail?

Chris King
•There's a form you can fill out on the NY DOL website to request a paper copy. Under 'Forms and Publications' I think.

•If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try claimyr.com - it's what finally worked for me after weeks of failed attempts.

Y'all realize this is like the 3rd year in a row they've pulled this bs with the tax forms? Remember 2021 when they didn't send them out until mid-February and everyone was panicking? Or 2020 when they sent out forms with incorrect amounts? The ny unemployment department is literally the worst.

Random question but has anyone had issues with their bank showing different deposit amounts than what's on the 1099-G? Trying to figure out if I'm crazy or if there's actually a discrepancy...

•YESSS! Mine shows I got $14,350 but my bank deposits only add up to $12,900. I've been trying to call about it but you know how that goes...

•Check if they took taxes out. Sometimes the 1099 shows the gross amount before tax withholding

•I checked that already - I didn't have taxes withheld. The numbers just straight up don't match and I'm worried about getting audited 😬

If anyone is having trouble getting thru to ny unemployment by phone to fix issues with their 1099-G, I got thru using claimyr.com after trying for days on my own. Talking to an agent got my tax forms corrected within minutes. Was totally worth it instead of stressing for weeks.

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

Lucas Bey
•No catch - they just keep calling for you instead of you having to do it yourself. When they get someone, they connect you. Saved me hours of frustration.

hot tip: download the 1099-G as a PDF, but ALSO take screenshots showing the page URL and your name. I had an audit last year and they wanted proof the document came from the official site.

Soooo what happens if the 1099 shows the wrong amount and you can't get anyone on the phone to fix it? Do I just file with the wrong info or what? I don't wanna get flagged for tax fraud but it's literally impossible to reach anyone 😩

•Try claimyr.com - I was in the same situation and it got me through to an agent who fixed mine. Otherwise you might be waiting weeks to get it corrected.

•You should NOT file with incorrect info. That's just asking for trouble with the IRS later.
