NY unemployment 1099-G tax forms for 2025 now available - download before they disappear
Hey everyone - just a heads up that 2025 1099-G tax forms are now up on the NY unemployment portal! I'd recommend everyone grab them ASAP. Last year they randomly disappeared from the system for like 3 weeks and I almost missed my tax filing deadline. Make sure you screenshot them, save PDFs, or print physical copies... don't just assume they'll stay available. The DOL website is so glitchy sometimes.

This is important information, thank you for sharing! For those who aren't familiar, the 1099-G form shows all unemployment benefits you received during the year and is required for filing your taxes correctly. You can find it by logging into your NY.gov account, going to the unemployment services section, and looking under 'Tax Forms'. They should technically be available until next tax season, but as OP mentioned, the system has had issues in the past where documents temporarily disappeared. Better safe than sorry!

•No problem! Yeah exactly - they SHOULD be available all year but that's definitely not guaranteed. I've learned not to trust the NY unemployment website to work properly when I need it most lol

•You're welcome! If you're filing soon, remember that unemployment benefits are taxable income at the federal level. New York State doesn't tax unemployment benefits anymore (changed in 2022), but you'll still need to report them on your federal return.

I just logged in and got mine. The amount seems wrong though?? It's showing $14,580 but I only collected benefits for about 6 months. Anyone else notice discrepancies in their 1099-G?

•You're right! I just double-checked and it shows the full amount before the taxes were taken out. I was looking at my bank deposits which were less. Thanks for helping me avoid a panic attack lol

I can't even log in to get my forms! The NY.gov ID verification keeps saying my information doesn't match their records. I've tried calling the tech support number on the website but it just disconnects after 30 minutes on hold. Has anyone found a way to actually speak to a human being at DOL? This is so frustrating!

•After spending hours trying the regular phone system, I finally got through to a real person using Claimyr. It's a service that connects you directly to unemployment agents and skips the hold time. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - their website is claimyr.com. I was skeptical but it worked for my ID verification issue and saved me days of frustration. The agent was able to reset my account access and I got my tax forms immediately.

•Thank you SO MUCH for this! I'm going to try it right now. I've been stressing about this for days and my accountant is hounding me for the form.

LISTEN UP PEOPLE! Take this advice seriously!! Last year I didn't save my 1099-G and then when I needed it in April, it had VANISHED from the system. Called unemployment and was told it would be "fixed soon" - took them FIVE WEEKS to restore access!! By then I had to file an extension. The DOL system is GARBAGE and they don't care about our problems!!

Does anyone know if I can get my 1099-G from 2024 as well? I need both years for an apartment application but only see 2025 available.

Important note: If you believe there's an error on your 1099-G form (wrong amount, incorrect personal information, etc.), don't just ignore it. Contact the NY Department of Labor to request a corrected form by calling 888-209-8124. Tax discrepancies can trigger audits, so it's worth taking the time to fix any mistakes.

•Good point! My friend had an incorrect amount last year and ignored it. Ended up getting a notice from the IRS months later questioning the discrepancy. Such a headache to fix retroactively.

quick question does anyone know if we have to report the extra $300 we got per week last march? or is that part already included in the form?

•All supplemental benefits should already be included in your 1099-G total amount. The form shows the combined total of all unemployment payments you received during the year, including any federal supplements. You don't need to report them separately - just use the total shown on the form.

By the way, I filed a complaint with the state comptroller last year after the 1099 forms disappeared. They claimed it was a "scheduled maintenance" that somehow lasted for weeks with no prior notice!!! Don't believe their excuses - they just don't invest in proper IT infrastructure and we all suffer for it.

•It's so frustrating! The whole system feels like it's held together with duct tape sometimes. Thanks for trying to hold them accountable though!
