When will ny unemployment w2 forms for 2021 be available?
I need to file my 2021 taxes but haven't received my unemployment tax form yet. Does anybody know when these 1099-G forms will be available from NY unemployment? I know they're supposed to mail them out, but I also heard we can access them online. I got benefits from march til September so I definitely need this to file properly. Already checked my online account and couldn't find it anywhere. Getting worried since I want to file early this year to get my refund faster.

This happens every year. They're supposed to have them available by January 31st. Check your online account (ny.gov/mybenefits) - they should post them there before mailing them out. Just log in and look for the 1099-G tax form section. They'll eventually mail you a copy too but the online one comes faster.

•Tried logging into my account but i cant find where any tax forms would be. Is there a specific tab or section i should be looking at?

After weeks of getting nowhere with the online portal I finally gave up and used claimyr.com to get connected to an actual human being. Talked to a rep and they were able to tell me exactly when my 1099 would be ready and how to access it. Best money I ever spent after wasting days trying to get through on the regular phone line! They got me a callback with a live agent in under an hour https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•is that actually worth it? sounds like another scam to me...

•Definitely not a scam. I was skeptical too but after trying for 2 weeks to get through on my own I was desperate. They basically call for you and wait on hold, then connect you when a real person picks up. Talking to an actual agent solved my issue in minutes.

•How does that even work? they need ur personal info or something?

•No personal info needed. They just call the dept and wait on hold, then when someone answers they connect you. You handle the actual conversation yourself.

I can tell you from last year they started posting them around Jan 25th but it takes time for everyone to get access. Some ppl dont get them until early February. If you need it urgently you HAVE to call them and request it directly. Just be prepared to wait on hold forever lol

you can also try calling the automated tax form request line at 1-888-209-8124. press 2 for tax forms. sometimes that works if the website is being a pain. they should have sent you an email when it was ready too so check your spam folders.

•That number is such a joke. I spent 3 hours yesterday getting transferred between departments and eventually got hung up on.

If u dont get it by feb 15 then start worrying. I had same issue last year and eneded up having to call in multiple times. ny unemployment system is absolutely terrible with this stuff. once i finally got through to a person they were able to generate the form on the spot and give me access to download it.

•Feb 15 is way too late if you want to file early! 😬 I need mine asap

Last year they sent mine to the wrong address even though I had updated my info online. Double check your address is current in the system NOW before they mail it! And maybe try requesting it through the automated phone system too (though that's hit or miss).

I already got mine! Logged into my account on Monday and it was there under "1099-G Information" on the left side menu. Maybe they're releasing them in batches? Try checking again or contact them directly.

•Wait really? I don't even see that menu option. Are you on the old site or the new one?

•I'm on the new one. Go to My Documents section once you log in. Should be there if its ready.

🚨 FOR ANYONE STRUGGLING WITH THIS ISSUE: 🚨 As someone who works with tax preparation, here's a comprehensive guide to get your 1099-G: 1. The NY DOL is required by law to make 1099-Gs available by January 31st. They should be posted online before being mailed out. 2. To find it online: Log into your NY.gov account > Go to My Online Services > Unemployment Services > View 1099-G Tax Form. You may need to navigate to a "Tax Forms" or "Documents" section. 3. If you can't find it online by Feb 1st, you need to contact them directly. This is where most people get stuck in the endless phone loop. 4. I've personally found the most success using claimyr.com to get through to an agent quickly. They essentially wait on hold for you then connect you when a human answers. This saves hours of frustration and most of my clients have had their 1099-G issues resolved in one call. 5. Alternative method: Send a secure message through your online account specifically requesting your 1099-G form. Include your full name, last 4 of SSN, and the tax year needed (2021). 6. If all else fails, you can actually file your taxes without the form if you know the exact amount you received in benefits. However, I don't recommend this as it may increase audit risk. Hope this helps everyone dealing with this annual headache!

•This is super helpful, thank you! Quick question - if I received benefits in 2021 but already claimed them on last year's taxes (filed in 2022), do I still need this form?
0 coins
Bruno Simmons
•No, you would only need the 1099-G for benefits received during the 2021 calendar year (Jan-Dec) which you'd file on your 2021 taxes that were due in April 2022. If you've already filed those taxes correctly, you're good!

•that claimyr service actually legit? seems too good to be true

•I was skeptical at first too, but after recommending it to dozens of clients, I can confirm it works consistently. They don't take any personal info - they just connect you with a live agent so you can handle your own call. Saved me countless hours!

Anybody else notice how ny unemployment always has these issues every single tax season? And yet somehow they never improve their systems 🤔

•And don't forget how they take like 2 months to process new claims but expect us to file our taxes on time 🙄

I swear the NY unemployment system is designed to be as frustrating as possible. I've been checking everyday for my 1099 and nothing. Trying to call is pointless unless you have 4 hours to waste on hold.

If you're desperate and need it urgently, try contacting your state representative's office. They have special channels to unemployment and can sometimes help expedite these requests. Worked for me last year when I was in a similar situation.

•This is actually great advice! My cousin works for a state senator and they have direct lines to resolve these issues.
