NYS Department of Labor 1099-G availability timeline - when will unemployment 1099 be available 2024?
Does anyone know when the NYS Department of Labor will release the 1099-G forms for 2024 unemployment benefits? I received UI payments throughout most of last year and need the tax document to file my return. I've been checking my.ny.gov account but don't see anything yet. Last year I think they came out in late January but I'm not sure if that's consistent. Has anyone gotten theirs already or know the official release date?

NYS Department of Labor typically releases 1099-G forms by January 31st each year, which is the federal deadline. You should be able to access yours through your my.ny.gov account once they're available. If you don't see it by February 1st, you can request a duplicate through the online portal or call their tax document line.

•Thanks! I'll keep checking my account. Do they send physical copies in the mail too or is it only available online?

•Just checked and still nothing there for me. Maybe they're rolling them out in batches?

I've been waiting for mine too and having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor on the phone about it. The regular unemployment line just keeps disconnecting me after 20+ minutes on hold. If you're having similar issues reaching them, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me through to an agent last week about my weekly claim issue. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Might be worth trying if you need to speak to someone about your 1099-G status.

•Never heard of that service before but the phone situation with NYS Department of Labor is definitely frustrating. How much does something like that cost?

•It was really reasonable and saved me hours of trying to get through myself. Way less stressful than dealing with the busy signals and disconnections.

ugh the whole tax season thing with unemployment is such a mess every year!! why can't they just have everything ready on time like regular employers do with W2s

For what it's worth, you can still file your taxes without the 1099-G if you know the total amount you received. NYS Department of Labor should have all your payment history in your online account under the payment summary section. Just make sure to report the full amount as taxable income.

•Good point about using the payment summary. I'll add up my totals from there if the 1099-G doesn't show up soon.
