How to get my 1099-G from NYS Department of Labor unemployment online?

I need to file my taxes and I'm trying to figure out how to get my 1099-G form from NYS Department of Labor for the unemployment benefits I received last year. I've been looking all over the my.ny.gov website but can't seem to find where to download it. Does anyone know the exact steps to get this form online? I really don't want to have to wait for it in the mail since tax season is already here.

You can get your 1099-G through the my.ny.gov portal. Log in to your account, then go to the 'Tax Documents' section under your unemployment benefits dashboard. The 1099-G should be available there for download as a PDF. NYS Department of Labor usually makes them available by late January.

Thanks! I found the Tax Documents section but it's showing as empty. Does it take a while for them to post it online?

mine took like 2 weeks to show up online last year, they're probably still uploading them

If you're having trouble accessing your 1099-G online, you might need to contact NYS Department of Labor directly. I had issues last year where my online account wasn't showing the tax documents even though they were available. Getting through to them by phone can be really frustrating though - I was on hold for hours multiple times. I actually found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to a live agent quickly. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me a lot of time dealing with the phone system.

Never heard of that service before. Is it legit? I'm always skeptical of third-party stuff when it comes to government benefits.

Yeah it's legitimate. They basically just help you navigate the phone system to reach an actual person at NYS Department of Labor. I was able to get my 1099-G issue resolved the same day instead of waiting weeks for a callback.

The NYS Department of Labor system is SO frustrating!! I've been trying to get my 1099-G for three weeks now and every time I call they either hang up on me or put me on hold forever. Why can't they just make this stuff easier to access online?? It's 2025 for crying out loud!

I feel your pain. The whole system needs an overhaul but we're stuck with what we have.

Check your mailing address on file too - sometimes if your address changed during the year they might have mailed it to an old address. You can update your info through the my.ny.gov portal and request a duplicate copy.

I had the same issue last month! If the Tax Documents section is empty, try clearing your browser cache and logging out/back in. Sometimes the portal has display issues. Also make sure you're looking under the right tax year - they separate them by year. If it's still not showing up after a few days, you can also call the automated line at 1-888-209-8124 and request they mail you a copy, which usually arrives within 10 business days.
