When will 1099g forms be available for ny unemployment tax season?
I've been checking the New York unemployment online portal for the last couple weeks trying to get my 1099g form for 2023. I collected unemployment for a few months last year after getting laid off in May, and now I need the tax form to file my taxes. The website keeps saying they'll be available in January but it's already February 2nd and nothing's showing up! Tried calling the general number but couldn't get through to anyone. Anyone know when these forms are supposed to be released? My tax guy is breathing down my neck to get this paperwork in since I usually file early. Has anyone been able to access their 1099g yet?

I just got mine yesterday after checking for weeks. Try logging in to your account and going to the documents section. They should be there now. If not, you might need to call them directly. I know its a pain but sometimes thats the only way to get things fixed.

•I checked again this morning and still nothing in my documents section. Did you get an email notification when yours was available or did you just have to keep checking?

•No email or notification at all. It just randomly showed up. Maybe they're releasing them in batches? I collected benefits from March to September if that helps.

•Same! No notification but it appeared today. Check again tomorrow maybe?

Been through this frustrating process before! After struggling to reach anyone for days, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. Finally got my tax documents sorted after the agent manually sent my 1099g. It was the best money I've ever spent to get this resolved - talking to an agent got my documents unlocked so fast! Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? ive wasted so much time on hold already im desperate 🤔

•Yeah it actually works! I was super skeptical too but I was at my wits end after trying to call for THREE WEEKS. They basically wait on hold for you and then call your phone when a real person answers. I got through in about 35 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own.

•sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this besides the person selling it? 🙄

•I used it last month for a different issue. Not gonna lie, I thought it was a scam at first, but it saved me hours of being on hold. The callback feature is legit - they call you when they get an agent on the line.

They're supposed to be available by January 31st by law. I'm in the same boat as you - nothing showing up in my account. I tried calling yesterday and waited 2 hours before giving up. NY unemployment system is a joke. Maybe try checking if they have a Twitter account to message? Sometimes social media gets faster responses than official channels.

Yo I had the same issue last year! What worked for me was requesting a duplicate 1099G through the automated phone system. For some reason it wasn't showing online but when I called and requested a copy they mailed it within a week. Try calling 1-888-209-8124 and use the option for tax forms. This was faster than waiting for them to fix the online system.

•Thanks for the suggestion. Did you have to speak with a person or was it all automated when you called that number?

•It was automated! Just followed the prompts and then entered my info. No human interaction needed which was great cause getting through to a person is basicaly impossible.

According to the NYSDOL website, all 1099G forms should be available by January 31st. If you don't see yours by February 15th, then you should contact them directly. Sometimes their system gets overwhelmed this time of year and there are delays. You can also try requesting a paper copy be mailed to you if the online version isn't showing up.

•Thanks, I'll give it until the 15th then. Just worried about getting my taxes done on time.

GUYS LISTEN UP! The ny unemployment system is COMPLETLEY broken right now. My friend works at an H&R Block and says they're getting tons of people coming in with this exact issue. The NYSDOL is apparently having a system-wide problem with 1099Gs this year. They're telling people to wait until mid-February for the online versions to be fully uploaded. If you need it urgently, calling is literally your only option 🙄🤬

•This is so annoying! How are we supposed to file our taxes on time if they can't get their act together? I was counting on getting my refund early this year.

•I know right?? and the worst part is they dont even announce these issues officially. like just TELL US there's a problem instead of leaving us hanging!

Here's the thing about NY unemployment forms - they've been a mess since covid. Most people will have them available online by now, but some accounts have glitches. If you collected for multiple periods or had any issues with your claim during the year, it can delay your 1099G. I recommend trying these steps: 1. Clear your browser cache and try logging in again - sometimes it's just a display issue 2. Call the dedicated tax form line at 1-877-358-5306 instead of the regular unemployment number 3. If you can't get through by calling, try using Claimyr.com - it's a service that connects you with NY unemployment agents by waiting on hold for you (saved me countless hours) 4. You can estimate your unemployment income from your bank deposits if your tax preparer is really pushing you 5. As a last resort, file for an extension if you can't get your form by April Remember, even if you can't get the form, you still legally need to report all unemployment income on your taxes. The IRS gets a copy of your 1099G automatically.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll try clearing my cache first and then that tax form number. Didn't even know there was a separate line for tax issues.

•Yeah, I was skeptical too but it got me through to a real person in about 40 min when I'd been trying for days. Totally worth it rather than wasting hours on hold or getting disconnected.

Mine wasn't showing up online either but I randomly got it in the mail yesterday! Maybe check your mailbox? They might be sending paper copies to some people automatically.

Anyone else notice the unemployment website is always broken during tax season? Every. Single. Year. It's like they don't test their systems or prepare for the obvious rush of people needing forms in January. I'm so tired of this incompetence.

•It's almost like they do it on purpose to make it harder for people to file 🤔

•Facts! Their systems are running on technology from like 1992 💀

You can actually get your 1099G by calling 1-888-209-8124 and following the automated prompts. Have your PIN and SSN ready. It takes about 5 minutes. Much faster than waiting for the website to get fixed.

I swear the ny unemployment system is designed to be frustrating. Called that automated number someone suggested below and it just kept saying "we're sorry, that information is not available" after entering all my info 🤦♀️ This is such a waste of time.

FYI - if you really need to file now and can't get your 1099G, you can use your bank statements to calculate how much unemployment you received and file with that amount. Just make sure to amend your return if the official amount ends up being different. My accountant suggested this when I had the same issue last year.

i managed to get mine after talking to an actual person. only way i could do that was using claimyr.com though - finally got connected after trying for days on my own. the agent said they're having technical issues with the online system and manually emailed me my 1099g. might be worth a try if ur desperate

•tbh i was skeptical too, but they don't ask for any personal info - they just connect the call to u when they get someone on the line. beats spending all day on hold!

•Just checked it out - seems straightforward, they just call for you and connect when there's a human. Gonna try this tomorrow if my form still isn't showing up.

If you're really stuck, you can also try emailing NYS.1099G@labor.ny.gov with your request. Include your full name, last 4 of SSN, mailing address, and phone number. I had to do this last year and they responded within 3 business days with my form. Way easier than calling!

don't stress too much, they're always late with these forms. I'm waiting too and my accountant said we have until April to file anyway. The IRS doesn't even start processing returns until late January, so even if you file "early" you're not getting your refund any faster.
