When is NY unemployment 1099-G tax form available for 2025?
I need my 1099-G form for filing my taxes but can't figure out when it's available. This is my first time on NY unemployment and I want to file early. Does anyone know when the 1099-G becomes available and how to get it? Do they mail it or do I need to download it from somewhere? Thanks!

NY unemployment 1099-G forms are typically available by January 31st. You can access it through your NY.gov ID account by going to your unemployment services dashboard and looking for the tax forms section. They should also mail a physical copy to the address they have on file for you, but online is usually faster.

•Thank you! Do they send an email notification when it's available online?

Technically they are required by law to make them available by January 31st, but in my experience the website often shows them around mid-January. Last year mine was available on January 18th. You'll need to log into your NY.gov account, go to 'Unemployment Services', then look for 'View/Print 1099-G' under the 'Forms' section.

If you don't receive your 1099-G by February 5th, you should DEFINITELY call the unemployment office. I waited too long last year thinking it would eventually show up, and ended up having to file an extension on my taxes! The phone lines get completely jammed the closer you get to tax day.

•Oh no, that sounds stressful. I definitely want to avoid filing an extension.

After trying for TWO WEEKS to get through to someone on the phone about my missing 1099-G last year, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual person at unemployment in about 20 minutes. Saved me hours of redial hell. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE if you end up needing it.

FYI - You can actually access 1099-G forms from previous years too if you need them. I needed mine from two years ago for a mortgage application and was able to download it from the same section. Just look for the year selector dropdown when you're in the tax forms area.

Also worth noting that if you had multiple types of unemployment benefits during the year (like regular UI and then extended benefits), it should all be consolidated on one 1099-G form. The system got this wrong for me once and I had to call to get it fixed.

•That's a good point. And make sure the amount on your 1099-G matches what you actually received. I had a discrepancy last year because they didn't account for tax withholding correctly. Had to call to get it sorted out.

•They haven't stopped that service. You can request a duplicate 1099-G through your online account or by calling the dedicated tax form helpline at 888-209-8124. Follow the prompts for tax form assistance.

Thanks everyone for the helpful information! I'll check my online account after January 15th and make sure my address is updated in the system. If I don't see it by early February, I'll call or use that Claimyr service someone mentioned if I can't get through.

•Good plan. And if you have any issues understanding the form when you get it, feel free to come back here with questions. The 1099-G can be confusing the first time you deal with it, especially figuring out which box numbers correspond to what you need to enter on your tax forms.
