NY unemployment 1099G forms mailing schedule - can't access my online account
Does anyone know if NY unemployment is mailing out the 1099G tax forms this year? I've been trying to log into my online account for the past week to download it but keep getting an error message. I need this form ASAP to file my taxes and the deadline is coming up. Has anyone actually received their form in the mail yet or successfully downloaded it?

Yes, NYSDOL does mail physical 1099G forms, but they strongly prefer people to access them online. They should be mailed by January 31st (required by law). If you're having trouble with your online account, try clearing your browser cache and cookies or use a different browser. Sometimes the NY.gov ID system gets weird connection issues that can be fixed that way.

•Thanks for the info! I tried using a different browser but still getting the same error. Will wait a few more days to see if it comes in the mail.

•That's good to know they're actually sending them! I'll keep an eye on my mailbox then.

They're definitely mailing them out, but they're also supposed to be available in your online account under the 'My Documents' section. What specific error message are you getting when you try to log in? Is it saying 'invalid credentials' or something else? Sometimes the system will lock you out after too many failed attempts.

•It just says "System Error - Try again later" when I click the login button. I know my password is correct because I reset it right before trying. It's been saying this for days now!

•That sounds like they're having issues with the login servers. This happens every year around tax time when everyone tries to access their forms at once. You can try calling the NYSDOL technical support line at 888-209-8124, but be prepared for a long wait.

This happened to me last year too!!! So frustrating when you NEED these forms and can't get them. Is there a way to request them to send a new copy in the mail? I ended up waiting like 3 weeks past when I wanted to file because of this exact problem.

After spending TWO DAYS trying to get through to someone at NYSDOL about my missing 1099G, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They confirmed my address and resent my form, plus helped me reset my account access. Saved me so much frustration. Check out their demo video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE - totally worth it when you're in a time crunch for tax filing.

•I've never heard of this service before. Did they really get you through that quickly? The phone system is impossible!

•Yes! It actually works. The way they explained it to me is they basically monitor the phone lines and call you back when they can get you in the queue. I was skeptical but desperate enough to try it, and it worked exactly as advertised.

I'm in the same situation but I'm really worried because I moved since I was on unemployment and I'm not sure if they have my current address!!! Does anyone know if the 1099G forms get forwarded by USPS or if they return to sender?? I updated my address with USPS but forgot to update it with unemployment since my claim ended last year.

•They should forward if you have mail forwarding set up with USPS. But you should really call and update your address with them anyway for future correspondence.

Just to add some helpful information: if you continue having issues, you can also submit a secure message through your NY.gov ID account (if you can access that part) specifically requesting a 1099G reprint. Go to the NYSDOL website, click on 'Forms and Publications' then look for '1099G Request'. They typically process these within 5-7 business days. Also, for future reference, the NY tax department can often access your 1099G information directly when you file state taxes, even if you don't have the physical form yet.

•That's really helpful, thank you! I can't access my NY.gov account at all right now, but I'll keep trying. Good to know about the tax department being able to access it directly.

UPDATE for everyone: Just saw on the NYSDOL Twitter account that they're experiencing technical issues with the online account system today and yesterday. They're working on fixing it. So this is a known issue affecting multiple users right now, not just individual account problems.

•Thanks for the update! That makes me feel better that it's not just my account. I'll keep an eye on their Twitter for updates.

UPDATE: My 1099G form arrived in today's mail! For anyone else waiting, they are definitely sending them out. The website is still giving me the same error, but at least I have the form now. Thanks everyone for your help!
