How to get my NY unemployment 1099-G form mailed to me instead of online?
Has anyone figured out how to get a paper copy of their NY unemployment 1099-G mailed to them? I've been trying to access mine online but keep getting an error message when I log into my account. My tax preparer needs this form ASAP and I'm really stressing about it. When I called the automated line they just direct me back to the website which isn't working for me. I've tried from my phone and my laptop and get the same issue. I'm not tech savvy and really just need the physical form mailed. Help?

u need 2 call and speek to an actual person. the website is trash especially during tax season when evry1 is trying to access it at the same time. keep calling until u get thru, might take a few hours lol

That's what I was afraid of... I've been trying to call for 2 days and can't get through. Just keeps saying 'high call volume' and disconnects me. 😫

I had this exact issue last year. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the NY Unemployment 1099-G request line at 888-209-8124 2. Press 2 for tax forms 3. Press 2 again for 1099-G 4. Press 3 to request a paper copy 5. Enter your SSN and PIN when prompted You'll need to verify your mailing address. They say it takes 7-10 business days to arrive, but mine came in about a week. If you can't get through using the regular menu options, try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM. That's when I had the best luck.

Thank you SO much! I'll try that exact sequence tomorrow morning at 8am sharp. Do you know if they're open on Saturdays? My tax appointment is next Thursday and I'm getting nervous.

The problem is getting through to an actual person. I've been dealing with NYSDOL for years and it's always the same story - impossible to reach anyone during busy periods. I FINALLY discovered a service called Claimyr that got me through to an agent in about 15 minutes instead of spending days trying. They basically hold your place in line and call you when an agent is available. Saved my sanity honestly. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

is that some kind of paid service? seems weird to have to pay just to talk to unemployment when our taxes already pay for it. the system is so broken!!

Yeah, it does cost something, but after spending literally 3 days trying to get through, it was worth it to me. The system IS broken, but I needed my issue fixed urgently.

Here's what most people don't know - you can also access your 1099-G through NY.gov ID instead of the unemployment website directly. Go to my.ny.gov, log in with your NY.gov ID (create one if you don't have it), then click on Unemployment Services. Sometimes this alternate path works when the direct unemployment portal is having issues. If that doesn't work, you can also email them at 1099G@labor.ny.gov with your full name, last 4 of SSN, and current mailing address to request a paper copy. Include "1099-G Request" in the subject line. I've had clients do this and they usually receive it within 2 weeks.

I tried the NY.gov login earlier and got stuck in an endless loop between the two systems. But I'll definitely try the email option right now! Thank you for that suggestion. Do they send any kind of confirmation that they received the request?

They typically send an auto-response confirming receipt of your email within 1-2 business days. If you don't get that confirmation, I'd recommend trying again or pursuing the phone option others have suggested.

THIS DEPARTMENT IS THE WORST!!!! I've been trying for THREE WEEKS to get my 1099! Online says "system error" and phone just hangs up! How are we supposed to file taxes when they can't even send basic forms?? Anyone else getting the run around or just me??? They should extend the tax deadline if they can't get their act together!!!

You're definitely not alone. The NYSDOL system gets overwhelmed every tax season. One thing that helped me was calling from a different phone number - they seem to have some kind of block that prevents the same number from calling repeatedly in a short period. Might be worth trying if you have access to another phone.

I just went through this process last week. The most reliable method I found was to send a written request by certified mail to: NYS Department of Labor PO Box 15130 Albany, NY 12212-5130 Include your full name, address, phone number, last four of SSN, and clearly state you're requesting a paper copy of your 2024 1099-G form. I received mine within 8 days of sending the letter. Alternatively, if you know someone who's good with computers, ask them to help you navigate the NY.gov website. Sometimes it's just a browser compatibility issue that can be fixed by using Chrome in incognito mode or clearing your cache.

Thanks for the mailing address! I'll try the phone first thing tomorrow, but if that doesn't work I'll send a certified letter as backup. Really appreciate everyone's help with this!

I'm definitely getting desperate at this point... tax appointment is coming up fast. I'll try the specific phone sequence first thing tomorrow and if that fails, might have to look into that service.

UPDATE: I got through this morning! Called right at 8:00am and followed the sequence that was suggested (press 2, then 2 again, then 3). Had to wait about 30 minutes but finally spoke to someone who confirmed they'll mail my 1099-G. Should arrive in 7-10 days which is cutting it close for my tax appointment but better than nothing. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Glad you got it sorted out. For your tax appointment, if the form hasn't arrived yet, you can let your preparer know it's on the way. They might be able to estimate that amount for now and amend later if needed, or possibly reschedule to make sure everything is accurate the first time.
