How to get NY unemployment 1099-G tax form with inactive account login?

Does anyone know if NY unemployment still mails out 1099-G tax forms automatically? My claim ended a few months ago and now I can't even log into my account anymore (keeps saying invalid credentials). I need to find out exactly how much unemployment I received this year for a tax advance application I'm filling out. Any suggestions on how to get this information when I can't access my online account? Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, NYSDOL will still mail your 1099-G form to your address on file, but they typically don't send them until late January 2025 for the 2024 tax year. If you need the information now, you should try to reset your password through NY.gov ID. If that doesn't work, call the NYSDOL at 888-209-8124 and request your year-to-date payment information. Be prepared for a long wait time though.

Thanks for the info! I tried resetting my password twice already but never get the reset email. Really don't want to wait until January since I need this info asap. Has anyone had luck actually getting through on that phone number recently?

GOOD LUCK getting anyone on the phone!!! I've been trying for 3 weeks now about a completely different issue and can't get through. The system is TOTALLY BROKEN. They'll hang up on you after 2 hours of waiting. And their online system is even worse - locks you out for no reason and the password reset never works. NY unemployment is the WORST!!!

I had this exact same issue last month. Instead of calling the main number, try the tax form specific line at 518-485-7071. Much shorter wait times. Also, have you checked if your email address is still correct in the system? Sometimes the reset emails go to old addresses.

Same thing happened to me! Found out my old phone number was still on file so they were sending the verification code there instead of email. Maybe thats ur issue?

After fighting with the NY unemployment system for weeks trying to get my 1099-G form, I finally used Claimyr to get through to an agent. It's this service that connects you directly to a rep without waiting on hold for hours. The video shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Took me 15 minutes to reach someone who helped update my contact info so I could reset my password. Then I was able to access my account and see all my payment history. The website is claimyr.com if anyone needs it.

Never heard of this before. Did they need a lot of personal info to use it? Kinda desperate at this point so might try anything.

They just need your phone number to call you back when they connect with an agent. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of frustration. The agent I spoke with was able to tell me my total benefits paid this year while on the call.

Just to add to what others have said - if you filed your taxes last year using a tax preparer like H&R Block or TurboTax, they might have your unemployment income from last year saved in your account. Obviously won't have current year info but might help if you're trying to estimate.

That's a smart idea, but unfortunately I need the exact amount for this year (2024) for my tax advance. I'm going to try that Claimyr thing first and if that doesn't work maybe I'll try that specific tax form number someone mentioned.

One more thing to try - if you have any documentation from when you were receiving benefits (like payment confirmations or emails), those usually show your YTD (year to date) payment amounts. Might be worth checking old emails if you haven't deleted them.

UPDATE: I managed to get through! Used the Claimyr service and got connected with an agent in about 20 minutes. They verified my identity and gave me my total benefits for the year. They also helped me update my email address which is why I wasn't getting the reset emails. Finally got back into my account too. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Great to hear! For anyone else with this issue - another option is to request a paper copy of your 1099-G by mail by calling the tax form specific number I mentioned above. But it can take 2-3 weeks to arrive, so the direct phone method is faster if you need the information urgently.
