How to get my 1099-G form from NY unemployment for tax filing?
Tax season is coming up and I need my 1099-G form from unemployment for filing. I collected benefits for about 4 months last year after getting let go in February, but haven't received anything in the mail yet. I tried logging into my account on the website but can't find where to download or request the form. I also tried calling the main unemployment number but got stuck in the automated system for an hour before giving up. Has anyone successfully gotten their 1099-G recently? Is there a direct number I can call to request they mail it to me? My tax appointment is in 3 weeks and I'm starting to worry.

You can request it online through your NY.gov account. Log in, go to unemployment services, and look for the 1099-G section. It should be under 'Get Your NYS 1099-G' somewhere. If you cant find it, call 1-888-209-8124 but be prepared to wait a looooong time.

•Thanks! I tried that path but keep hitting a dead end once I'm in the unemployment services section. No 1099-G link anywhere I can find.

After two weeks of failed attempts to reach someone on the phone, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a real person at unemployment in like 45 minutes. The agent was able to resend my 1099-G right away. It was honestly the best money I've spent to get my tax stuff sorted quickly. They have a video explaining how it works too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Wait is this for real? I've been trying to get through for days. How does it work?

•Yeah it's basically an automated caller that waits on hold for you and then calls your phone once it gets a real person. Saved me hours of listening to that awful hold music lol

•I used it last month when my payments stopped for no reason. Got through to someone who fixed it that day. Before that I spent 2 weeks calling with no luck

•another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system 🙄 what makes this different from all the other 'solutions'?

•The difference is it actually works lol. It's not fixing the system, just helping you navigate it. They don't handle your claim or anything - they just connect you with a real agent so YOU can talk to them directly.

You can also try calling the tax document specific number: 1-877-280-4541. Sometimes it's less busy than the main line. i tried this yesterday and only waited 15 minutes.

FWIW they might have already mailed it and it's just slow. I got mine on Sat and my friend got hers yesterday. But if you're in a rush definitely call.

•I hope so! My mail has been super unreliable lately. Just worried because my tax appointment is coming up fast.

if you filed taxes last year, check your online tax prep account like turbotax or h&r block. sometimes they automatically pull in your 1099-G from last year and you might be able to see the contact info there. thats how i found the right #

Here's a detailed breakdown of how to get your 1099-G from NY unemployment: Online method: - Log in to your NY.gov ID account - Go to "My Online Services" - Select "Unemployment Insurance" - Look for "Get Your 1099-G" in the menu (usually under "Payments and Tax Forms") - You can view, download, or request a mail copy Phone method: - Main UI number: 1-888-209-8124 (prepare for long waits) - Tax form specific: 1-877-280-4541 (sometimes faster) If all else fails: - Try the Claimyr service (claimyr.com) - they wait on hold for you and connect you to an agent - Email: 1099G@labor.ny.gov with your full name, last 4 of SSN, and mailing address Reminder: You need this form to report unemployment income on your taxes correctly. Without it, you risk audit issues later. Good luck!

•Thank you so much for this detailed answer! I'll try the tax form specific number first. If that doesn't work, I might try that Claimyr thing.

•Just want to add that emailing takes FOREVER to get a response. I emailed 3 weeks ago and still nothing.

The whole system is a joke. I've been trying to get mine for a month. Called 23 times with no luck getting through. ny unemployment is broken beyond repair at this point.

Didnt they mail out all the 1099-Gs a couple weeks ago? I got mine in the mail without requesting anything. Maybe check with your post office if you moved recently?

•I did move in September but filed a change of address with USPS and updated my address in the unemployment portal. Maybe it got lost in the shuffle though.

•They're supposed to mail them by Jan 31st but NY is always behind on everything 🙄

Fun fact: u can also request to have it emailed to you if you talk to a rep. I hate paper forms and always lose them so I got mine emailed last week.

My friend works for NYSDOL (dont tell anyone lol) and she said they are SUPER backlogged with 1099 requests right now. Apparently their printer broke or something stupid 🤦♀️ If you need it urgently, calling is your best bet.

•A broken printer is holding up thousands of tax documents? That's the most government thing I've ever heard 💀

I went thru this last week. You HAVE to talk to a human. The automated system and website both suck. After 3 days of trying I used claimyr.com to get through and had my form in 2 days.

•How exactly does this claimyr thing work? The website is kinda vague

•They basically call unemployment for you and stay on hold, then when they get a real person, they call your phone and connect you. Saved me like 3 hours of hold time.
