How to get NY unemployment 1099-G without login credentials for 2025 tax filing
Does anyone know if NY unemployment will let us request 1099-G forms by phone this year like they did last year? My issue is I don't have a login name anymore (lost access to my old email) and I know the 1099s are coming out at the end of January. Really hoping I don't have to create a whole new account just for this tax document. Has anyone been able to get their 1099-G by calling NYSDOL directly in previous years?

Yes, you can definitely get your 1099-G by phone! I had to do this last year AND the year before. Call the NYSDOL at 888-209-8124 and use the automated system - press 2 for tax forms, then follow the prompts. You'll need your SSN and the PIN you used when filing. They can also mail a copy if you provide your current address. The phone system has been updated for 2025 tax documents, so it should be ready by February 1st when they're all issued.

•Thank you so much! That's a relief. Do you know if the PIN is the same one I used when I was claiming weekly benefits? It's been almost a year since I collected.

•I tried that but the problem is I don't have access to the email I used originally, so I can't get the reset link. That's why I need to find another way to get the 1099.

I'm having the EXACT same problem!!! Lost access to my old work email when I got laid off and now I can't login to get my tax forms. This is so frustrating because I need to file early this year. Did you try creating a new NY.gov ID? I'm worried that won't work either because my SSN is already linked to my old account that I can't access. The whole system is SO BROKEN!!!

•They won't let you create a new NY.gov ID with the same SSN - I tried that route last year. Your best option is definitely calling. The phone system for 1099-G requests is actually separate from the regular unemployment queue, so it's usually not as backed up.

I've had nothing but problems trying to get through on the phone to NYSDOL for my 1099-G this year. Spent literally 3 hours being transferred between departments yesterday. Nobody seems to know what they're doing! After trying for days, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 20 minutes who processed my 1099-G request. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Much better than wasting days trying to get through on my own. The agent told me the form will be mailed within 5-7 business days.

•Thank you, this might be what I need to do. I just tried calling the number the first person suggested but got stuck in an endless menu loop. How exactly does this service work?

•It basically just calls the unemployment office for you and holds your place in line. When they answer, they call your phone and connect you directly to the agent. Saved me hours of frustration - the agent I spoke with was actually really helpful once I finally got through.

you could also try visiting ur nearest nysdol career center in person. i did that in 2023 and they printed my 1099 right there. no appointment needed but get there early cuz it gets crowded

•That's a good idea too!! The office near me in Brooklyn is always PACKED though. Has anyone been to one recently? Are the wait times still crazy?

Just wanted to say I'm going through the same thing. The DOL website is so confusing and keeps locking me out. I'm just going to wait for them to mail it automatically. They're required by law to send it out by January 31st, right?

•They are required to send them by January 31st, but they're only automatically mailed if you selected that option when you were collecting benefits. If you chose electronic delivery (which most people do), you'll need to request a paper copy by phone or access it online.

I work as a tax preparer, and this is a common issue with unemployment tax documents. Here's what you need to know for 2025: 1) The NYSDOL sends all 1099-Gs electronically unless you specifically requested paper copies 2) If you can't access your account, call 888-209-8124 and use option 2 for tax documents 3) Provide your SSN, PIN, and current mailing address 4) They can mail a copy or email a secure link to a new email address 5) Allow 7-10 business days for mail delivery If you need it urgently, use the direct 1099-G request line: 518-485-7071. This bypasses the main unemployment line and goes directly to the tax document department. Have your SSN ready.

•Yes! Finally got it. I ended up using that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above and got through to a rep in about 30 minutes. They verified my identity and sent the 1099-G to my new email address through a secure link. Much easier than I expected once I actually reached someone who could help.
