Where to get NY unemployment tax forms (1099-G) for filing 2025 taxes?

I need to file my taxes and can't figure out where to get my 1099-G form from NY unemployment. Been trying to call the department of labor for 2 days but can't get through to anyone! The automated system keeps disconnecting me. Is there a way to download it online? I logged into my account but can't find any tax documents section. Getting stressed because my tax appointment is next week and I NEED this form!

You can access your 1099-G online through your NY.gov ID account. Login to your account, then go to 'Unemployment Services' and look for the 'Get Your 1099-G' link. They're typically available by January 31st. If you can't find it there, try going to the main DOL website and search specifically for '1099-G'. They changed the menu location this year and it's not as obvious as it used to be.

Thanks but I already looked there! There's no 'Get Your 1099-G' anywhere in my account. I've clicked through every menu option possible. Is it possible they haven't uploaded mine yet? It's already February 15th!

just call the tax form hotline NOT the regular unemployment number. 888-209-8124. that's what i did last year

Called that number already. It just loops through the automated menu and disconnects after 20 minutes! So frustrating!

Same boat! Been trying since last Monday to get mine. The online system is a JOKE this year. Apparently there's a "technical issue" affecting some accounts. That's what the automated message said before hanging up on me for the fifth time!

Ugh, that's exactly what happened to me too! Did you ever get through to someone?

I had this same problem and finally fixed it. Here's what you need to do: 1. Log into your NY.gov ID account 2. Instead of going to Unemployment Services, go to "My Online Forms" 3. Look for "Tax Form Request" (it's weirdly named) 4. Click that and you'll see options for requesting your 1099-G 5. You can either view it right there or have them mail it If that doesn't work, try using Claimyr.com to reach an agent. It got me through to someone in 25 minutes when I couldn't get through for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. Basically bypasses the phone tree nightmare.

THANK YOU!! I found it in "My Online Forms" like you said. The naming is terrible - why would they hide tax forms there instead of under unemployment services? Anyway, downloading it now. You saved me from having to reschedule my tax appointment!

the website sucks this year... they totally redesigned it and nothing is where it used to be. my sister works for a tax prep place and says like half their clients are missing 1099-Gs this year

This is important information. The DOL actually announced this redesign back in November 2024, but didn't communicate the changes very well. The most reliable method is actually to go to NY.gov, then My NY.gov, then Look for "Tax Documents" in the left sidebar (not under Unemployment). If you still can't access it, you should file Form TC-10 which is a request for missing tax documents. They must respond within 10 business days by law.

I had to request mine THREE separate times before it showed up. The system is completely broken this year. When you do get your 1099-G, double-check the amounts! Mine showed an incorrect figure that was $2,430 higher than what I actually received. Now I'm stuck trying to get them to issue a corrected form, which is another nightmare process. Document everything and take screenshots showing your actual payment history to compare against the 1099-G they issue.

Oh great, one more thing to worry about! Thanks for the heads up though - I'll definitely check the amounts carefully when I download it.

why dont u just contact ur tax guy? they can file without it and amend later

This is not correct advice. Filing without reporting unemployment income and amending later will likely trigger an automatic IRS discrepancy notice. The IRS receives a copy of your 1099-G directly from the state, and their automated matching system will flag the return. It's much better to get the correct document before filing.

Anybody else notice that the website says "If you received unemployment benefits in 2024, your 1099-G will be available by January 31, 2025" but it's clearly not working for everyone? Classic NYSDOL overpromising and underdelivering!

yup - their definition of "available" is pretty loose lol... technically the forms exist somewhere in their system but good luck actually GETTING one without spending hours on the phone

For anyone still having issues, here's the official process: 1. Primary method: NY.gov account > My NY.gov > Tax Documents > 1099-G 2. Alternative method: Call the dedicated 1099-G request line at 1-877-355-5676 (operates 24/7) 3. Last resort: Submit Form TC-10 (Tax Document Request Form) through your online account If you've tried all these methods and still can't get your form, you have the right to file a complaint with the Taxpayer Advocate Service at 1-877-777-4778. They can often help resolve the issue more quickly. And remember, by law, the department must provide your tax form within 10 business days of a written request.

Thanks for all this info. I managed to find mine in the "My Online Forms" section as someone else suggested. The organization of the website is terrible, but at least I have my form now!

Just went through this exact same nightmare last week! What finally worked for me was clearing my browser cache completely and then logging back into my NY.gov account. Apparently there's some weird caching issue that prevents the tax documents from showing up properly. After clearing cache, I found my 1099-G under "My Online Forms" > "Tax Form Request" just like Leo mentioned. Also, pro tip - if you're using Chrome, try switching to Firefox or Edge. I read somewhere that the new DOL website has compatibility issues with certain Chrome extensions. Hope this helps someone avoid the phone call hell!

This is such a helpful tip about clearing browser cache! I've been struggling with the NY.gov website for other things too and never thought it could be a caching issue. The Chrome compatibility problems make total sense - I've noticed the site acting weird when I have my ad blocker running. Going to try the Firefox suggestion next time I need to access anything on there. It's ridiculous that we have to troubleshoot basic website functionality just to get our own tax documents, but at least there are workarounds. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!
