Can't log in to get my NY unemployment 1099-G tax form - need urgent help!

I'm freaking out because I need my 1099-G form for my taxes but I can't log in to my NY unemployment account! I keep getting an error message saying "account temporarily unavailable" when I try to access it. I've tried resetting my password twice but still nothing works. My tax appointment is in 10 days and I NEED this form! Has anyone else had this problem? Is there another way to get the 1099-G without logging in? Getting really desperate here...

I had the same issue last week! The system is acting up again with all the tax season traffic. There are actually 3 ways to get your 1099-G without logging in: 1. Call the automated phone system at 1-888-209-8124. Press 2 for tax forms, then follow the prompts. They can mail it to you. 2. Email them at 1099G@labor.ny.gov with your full name, last 4 of SSN, phone number, and mailing address. Put "Request for 1099-G" in the subject line. 3. Visit a NY Career Center in person (bring ID). The email option worked for me - they sent a digital copy within 3 days!

Thank you so much! I'll try the phone system right now. Do you know how long it takes for them to mail it if I request it that way? I'm worried about my deadline.

dont stress about it man, they legally HAVE to give you access to that form. your tax guy can probably file an extension if you need more time anyway

I hope you're right. I really don't want to file an extension though, I'm counting on my refund to pay some bills.

The system is completely overwhelmed every January-April. You're definitely not alone! If you need it faster than mail, try calling the main unemployment number at 888-209-8124. Fair warning though - wait times are ridiculous right now (2+ hours). I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through last week. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me past the hold queue in about 15 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I got through to an agent, they were able to email my 1099-G form the same day. Definitely faster than waiting for mail!

Really? Never heard of Claimyr before. Did they actually get you through to someone when the regular line wasn't working? Seems kinda sketchy...

Totally understand the hesitation! I felt the same way at first, but I was desperate after trying for 3 days. It's basically a callback service - they navigate the phone tree and hold in line for you, then call you when they reach an agent. Saved me hours of listening to that awful hold music. The NYSDOL agent I spoke with was able to verify my identity and send my 1099 right away.

The login issues are affecting many users right now. In addition to the other suggestions, I'd recommend trying these troubleshooting steps before requesting the form through alternative means: 1. Try logging in during off-hours (early morning 6-7am or late evening 8-10pm) 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies completely 3. Try a different browser entirely 4. Disable any VPN if you're using one 5. Try from a different device (phone instead of computer) The NY.gov ID system sometimes has device-specific issues that can be bypassed with these methods. About 30% of users reporting login problems are able to resolve them with these steps. If you still can't access the system, the phone method is fastest for tax deadlines, while email requests typically take 3-5 business days to process during peak season.

I've tried different browsers and cleared my cache already, but I'll definitely try during off-hours tonight. Thanks for the detailed advice!

THEY DO THIS EVERY YEAR!!!! The system ALWAYS crashes during tax season. It's ridiculous!! I couldn't get my 1099 online last year either and ended up having to go to an actual office. Wasted half a day standing in line. The DOL knows EXACTLY how many people need these forms every January but they NEVER upgrade their servers to handle the traffic. It's almost like they WANT to make it difficult for us!!

UPDATE: I tried calling the automated system but it kept saying all representatives were busy. Then I tried logging in at 5:30am this morning and IT WORKED! I was able to download my 1099-G form! For anyone else having this problem, definitely try during off-hours like someone suggested above. Thanks everyone for your help!

That's great news! Glad you were able to get in early morning. Smart move - I should have suggested that too.

Does anyone know if the 1099-G we get this year looks different from last year? Mine has a bunch of new fields on it and I don't understand what some of them mean. There's a section called "Other Taxable Income" that has money listed but I don't remember getting any other payments besides my regular benefits. Should I be worried?

The 2025 1099-G form for unemployment has been redesigned with additional fields. The "Other Taxable Income" section typically refers to any supplemental benefits you may have received, like the additional $100 weekly supplement that was available for part of last year in certain circumstances. If you're concerned about discrepancies, I'd recommend contacting NYSDOL directly to get clarification on exactly what payments are included in that total.
