When does NY unemployment send out 1099G forms for taxes this year?
Does anyone know when the unemployment department will be sending out the 1099g tax forms for this year? I checked the portal about 2 months ago but could only find last year's form. I'm guessing they probably sent them out already this month since tax season is here, but I haven't been checking the website regularly. Where exactly do I need to look to find it in the system? Getting anxious about filing my taxes and don't want to be late because I'm missing this form. Thanks for any help!

They should be available by January 31st. You can find them by logging into your account on the ny.gov website, then going to 'My Online Forms' under your dashboard. Might have to click on the Tax Forms tab if there is one. If you still don't see it, call them because they might have sent it to an old address.

•Thank you! I'll check there. Do they email when they're available or do we just have to keep checking?

•They're supposed to send an email notification but I never got one lol. Best to just check the website after Feb 1st to be safe.

After waiting on hold for HOURS trying to get my 1099G last year, I tried this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they actually got me connected to a real person at unemployment. Talking to an agent got my tax forms straightened out in minutes! They basically wait on hold for you then call when they get someone. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent. Check out their youtube too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•sounds sketchy af. does this actually work or is it another scam?

•Not a scam at all! I was totally desperate after trying to call for 2 weeks straight. They just handle the wait time for you. Literally saved me days of being on hold.

•I get being skeptical. I was too. But after my 5th attempt to call and being hung up on after 2+ hours waiting, I was willing to try anything. It worked for me 🤷♂️

I just checked mine yesterday and it was there. They usually release them all by Jan 31 at the latest. If you still dont see yours after that, somethings wrong and you should call. Good luck getting through tho cause their phone lines are a NIGHTMARE this time of year 😫

Login to your NY.gov account > My Online Services > Unemployment Services > then look for "View 1099-G Tax Form". Mine was there since mid-January. If it's not, something might be wrong with ur account.

•Thanks, I'll check there tonight. Just hoping I don't need to call them because that's always a disaster.

They are legally required to have them available by January 31. But lets be real, this is NY unemployment were talking about so who knows what there doing 🙄 If you dont see it online you can request a paper copy but that takes FOREVER

Here's what you need to do step by step to find your 1099-G form online: 1. Go to labor.ny.gov and login to your account 2. Click on "Unemployment Services" 3. Select "View My 1099-G Tax Forms" 4. You should see all available years listed If you don't see this year's form by February 1st, there are a few options: - Call the dedicated 1099-G hotline at 1-888-209-8124 - Request a paper copy through the website (though this can take weeks) - Use a service like claimyr.com to get a callback with a live agent instead of waiting on hold for hours Remember that if you moved or changed addresses, they might have mailed it to your old address. You can update your contact info in your profile section. If you received benefits from NY unemployment during 2023, you should definitely receive a 1099-G. Don't file your taxes without it or the IRS might flag the discrepancy.

•That hotline number is useless, been trying for days. Might try that claimyr thing mentioned above

I swear the NY unemployment system is designed to be as frustrating as possible 🤦♀️ Tax season is stressful enough without having to hunt down forms that should be easily accessible

•It's like they're TRYING to make it impossible to get help. I spent 3 days trying to get through on the phone last month.

•EXACTLY. And then they'll penalize YOU if something goes wrong with your taxes because of their mistake!

they usually show up online before they mail them. check ur online account first. also if u had no benefits in 2023 but did in 2022, u might not get a new one cuz they only send if u got money that year

Anyone know if I need a 1099G if I only got benefits for like 3 weeks? I hardly got any money from them.

•Yes, you still need it. Even if you only received $1 in benefits, you need to report it on your taxes.

•ugh really? that sucks. just makes tax filing more complicated for like $600 total 😑

PSA: Make sure the amount on your 1099G matches what you actually received! Mine was wrong last year and it took months to fix. I had to provide bank statements showing my deposits to prove the discrepancy. Don't trust that they got it right.

•THIS!!! My 1099G showed I received $3400 more than I actually got. Such a nightmare to fix.

•Isn't it crazy? And if you just file with their incorrect info, YOU'RE the one who could get audited! 🤬

If you still get paper mail from them, the 1099G should arrive soon. But honestly, the online version is available sooner. I'd check there first. Just login and look under tax documents.

FYI for everyone - if you never got unemployment benefits in 2023, you won't get a 1099G for this tax year. They only send them for years when you actually received payments.

•Yeah I did receive benefits for about 4 months in 2023 so I definitely should have one.
