When does NY unemployment mail 1099G forms for 2025 tax filing? Can't find mine
Good morning 🌄 Can someone tell me when will unemployment send us our 1099g for this year and if they already did, where do I go to look it up?? I looked it up about 3 months ago and I only seen the one for last year so I'm guessing it has already came this month bc I don't be checking DOL website anymore. Thank you

NY Unemployment (NYSDOL) typically makes the 1099-G forms for the previous tax year available by January 31st. For the 2024 tax year, you should be able to access it now. Log into your NY.gov account, go to your unemployment services dashboard, and look for the "1099-G Information" or "Tax Statements" section. You can view and print it directly from there. If you received benefits in 2024, it should definitely be available now.

They stopped mailing most paper forms years ago unless you specifically requested it. Everything's digital now. Saves trees I guess lol

•Not entirely true. You can still request a paper copy by calling them, which is what I had to do last year when I couldn't access my online account. They're SUPPOSED to mail them automatically if you opted for paper correspondence when you first filed your claim.

If you're having trouble accessing your NY.gov account, I'd recommend trying to get through to a live agent at NYSDOL. I was in the same situation last month - couldn't log in, needed my tax documents urgently. After struggling with the automated phone system for days, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an agent within 15 minutes. They helped reset my account and explained exactly where to find my 1099-G. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE The agent told me they're required to keep your 1099-G available online for at least 4 years, so yours should definitely be there once you can log in.

THEY NEVER MAKE THIS SIMPLE!!!! I've been trying for TWO WEEKS to get my 1099G and their stupid website keeps giving me error messages. Called 15 times and always get disconnected!!! WHY can't they just MAIL THESE AUTOMATICALLY like they used to???? Some people don't have printers at home!!!!!

•Have you tried accessing the site during non-peak hours? I noticed the NY unemployment site often slows down or has issues between 10am-2pm when most people are trying to use it. I was able to download mine at 6:30am without any problems. Also, if you're using Chrome, try a different browser - the site works better with Firefox in my experience.

One thing to know is that you might have trouble finding your 1099-G if you're looking in the regular message center. They actually put it in a separate section called "1099-G Information" which is under the "Unemployment Services" menu after you log in. Also, if you received benefits that crossed over from December 2023 into January 2024, that might affect which tax year it shows up under. If you still can't find it after logging in correctly, you should request a duplicate by calling 1-888-209-8124. Just be prepared to spend some time getting through to a representative. The tax form deadline passed a while ago, so they should have yours ready.

•Thanks! I finally got in and found it exactly where you said. Turns out they DID mail me a paper copy too but it probably got lost with all my other mail when I moved in February. All good now!

I had the same question last week! Found mine but was confused because the amount seemed wrong. Turns out they don't withhold taxes automatically anymore unless you specifically asked for it, so now I owe a bunch at tax time. Check if yours looks right!

•That's an important point. For anyone reading this thread later - you can elect to have 10% federal tax withheld from your NY unemployment benefits, but you need to specifically request this option. For 2025 benefits, you can update your withholding preferences in your online account under "Payment Options." This can save you from owing a large sum when you file next year.
