When will NY unemployment W2 forms be available online?
Been collecting unemployment since August 2023 after my company downsized. I need to file my taxes early this year because I'm applying for a mortgage in March. Checked my online account but can't find any tax documents yet. Anyone know when the W2 forms (or whatever tax form we get) will be available on the NY unemployment website? Last year I got a paper copy in the mail but heard they're switching to digital this year. Getting antsy because my mortgage broker needs proof of income ASAP.

It's not a W2, it's a 1099-G form. Usually available by end of January or early February. You can access it through your NY.gov account under unemployment services. They should also mail you a paper copy.

•Thanks! I was looking for the wrong form then. Will check for the 1099-G instead. Do you know if we need to specifically request the digital version?

•Nope, no need to request it. Should be automatically available in your online account once they release them. Just login and check the tax document section.

After struggling to get anyone on the phone for WEEKS about my missing tax forms last year, I found claimyr.com and finally got through to a real person at NY unemployment. They connected me with an agent who fixed my issue in minutes. Totally worth it after all that frustration! Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch! It's a service that calls the unemployment office for you and stays on hold so you don't have to. When they get an agent, they call you. Saved me hours of hold time and talking to an agent got my tax forms sorted immediately.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS?

•It actually works! I was super skeptical too but was desperate after trying for 3 weeks to get through. Had an agent on the phone within an hour. Best money I ever spent to get my tax issue fixed.

•I used them last month too! Got through to someone who fixed my account after weeks of getting nowhere. claimyr.com was clutch

They should be available by January 31st. That's the deadline for them to make tax forms available by law. My friend who works at DOL says they're actually trying to get them out earlier this year, maybe by mid-January.

You can also call the automated tax form request line at 1-888-209-8124 if you don't want to wait for them to be uploaded online. That's what I did last year when I was in a similar situation with a mortgage application.

•That number is basically useless. Been calling for days and it just hangs up on me saying "high call volume" 🤬

•Ugh sorry to hear that. The system is so broken. Maybe try calling right when they open?

•Pro tip: use claimyr.com instead. Way better than waiting on hold forever or getting disconnected.

FYI the unemployment tax document is called a 1099-G, not a W2. W2 is only for traditional employment. Last year mine was available on January 23rd in my online account, but my roomate didnt get hers until February 2nd. So its kinda inconsistant.

Just a heads up, I talked to someone from NY unemployment last week about this (after trying to call for 2 days straight). They told me all tax forms will be available by January 31st at the latest. You can access them by logging into your account and going to the 'Tax Forms' section. All unemployment tax forms are 1099-G, not W2s.

•I used this service called Claimyr that calls for you and connects you when they get someone on the line. claimyr.com saved me hours of hold time. Talking to an actual person got everything fixed so fast.

I'm dealing with the EXACT same situation!! Mortgage lender breathing down my neck and unemployment tax forms nowhere to be found. This system is such a nightmare. If anyone finds out when they're actually posting them please update here!!

The NY unemployment website has been SUPER GLITCHY lately so even if they release the 1099-G forms on time, I wouldn't be surprised if the system crashes or something 🙄 I swear they're running this on windows 95 or something

•Windows 95 would be an upgrade 🤣 More like they're using punch cards and an abacus

•For real tho. Last year the site crashed for like 3 days straight when they uploaded the tax forms. Everyone trying to access at once I guess.

Here's exactly what you need to do to access your 1099-G forms from NY unemployment: 1. Login to your NY.gov ID account 2. Go to 'My Online Services' 3. Select 'Unemployment Insurance' 4. On the left menu, look for 'Get Your NYS 1099-G' 5. Select the tax year you need If they're not there yet, they should be by January 31st at the latest. That's the federal deadline for making these forms available. If you need it urgently, your best option is to call them directly. BUT - NY unemployment phones are completely overwhelmed and nearly impossible to get through to anyone. After struggling with this last year, I discovered claimyr.com which is a service that waits on hold with unemployment for you, then calls you when they reach a live agent. Absolute lifesaver when you need to talk to someone fast and can't spend hours on hold. For mortgage purposes, your lender might also accept your payment history as temporary proof of unemployment income until the official 1099-G is available. You can download that report from the same unemployment portal under payment history. Hope this helps with your mortgage process!

•This is SUPER helpful, thank you! I'll try these steps right now and see if I can at least get the payment history report for my lender.

•Just tried this and payment history report worked for my lender as temporary proof! Thanks for sharing

Umm isn't unemployment reported on a 1099-G not a W2? That's what I got last year.

Why are you applying for a mortgage while on unemployment? Most lenders wont approve you without steady income from a job just fyi

•I've got a job offer starting next month so the lender is working with me based on that. They still need all income verification including unemployment for the past year.

•Gotcha, makes sense. Congrats on the job offer!

You might be able to get your income verified another way for your mortgage. Ask your lender if they'll accept an account statement showing deposits or your determination letter. I used to work in mortgage processing and we sometimes accepted alternative documentation when tax forms weren't available yet.
