When will NY unemployment W2 forms for 2021 be available online?
Does anyone know when the 2021 W2 forms for NY unemployment benefits will be available? I need to file my taxes soon and I'm still waiting for it to show up in my account. Last year I think I got it in late January but nothing so far this year. Getting worried since I need to file early this year for my mortgage application.

The 1099-G forms (not W2s) for NY unemployment are typically available by January 31st. You should be able to access yours in your NY.gov account under the 'Unemployment Services' section. Look for the '1099-G Information' link. If you don't see it by February 1st, you might need to call.

The NY Department of Labor actually posted on their website that all 1099-G forms for 2021 unemployment benefits will be available in your online account by January 31, 2025. You can also request a paper copy by calling their dedicated 1099-G phone line at 1-877-280-4541. I've found that the online version usually appears a few days before the deadline.

What if we don't get it by the 31st??? I'm SUPER worried because last year they messed up mine and had the wrong amount and it took FOREVER to fix and I had to delay filing my taxes and almost got penalized and I really don't want to go through that again this year especially since I had unemployment for the first 6 months of last year and it's a significant amount of money that needs to be reported correctly!!!!

•If it's not available by February 1st, definitely call the 1099-G phone line. Document all your calls and interactions. If there are errors again, request a corrected form immediately. They're required by law to provide accurate tax documents, so be persistent.

I've been collecting unemployment on and off since 2019 and every single year this same question comes up. They ALWAYS wait until literally January 31st or sometimes even February 1st. It's annoying but just how they operate. One year I think mine didn't show up until February 3rd but it did eventually appear.

Last year I waited forever trying to get through to someone about my missing 1099-G. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an agent quickly. •It worked for me. Basically connects you directly to an agent instead of waiting on hold for hours. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days to get through about my tax forms.

THEY ARE THE WORST!! I bet they won't even have it ready by the 31st! And then good luck trying to call them - impossible to get through. I've been on unemployment 3 times and EVERY SINGLE TIME there's some problem with my 1099-G. Last year they had my address wrong even though I updated it online TWICE.

•If your address is incorrect in the system, log in and update it now before the forms are generated. Then take a screenshot as proof you updated it. This will help if you need to make a case later about not receiving the form.

UPDATE: My 1099-G just appeared in my account today (Jan 29)! For anyone else waiting, check your NY.gov account under Unemployment Services, then look for 1099-G Information. Mine shows the correct amount too, thankfully.

By the way, if anyone needs previous years' 1099-Gs, they keep them in the same section of your account. I was able to download my 2020, 2021, and 2022 forms all at once when I needed them for a mortgage application last month. Just click on the year you need.
