Check if your town or county has any emergency assistance programs. Some localities still have covid relief funds that haven't been fully distributed. Local charities might help too.
Not a solution to your immediate problem, but for future protection: all self-employed people in NY can voluntarily elect to pay into the state disability insurance system. It costs like 60 cents per $100 of income up to a cap. Most don't know this is an option but it's worth considering going forward.
If you can't get the online version working at all, you might want to try Claimyr, claimyr.com I was skeptical but it actually connected me with an agent who fixed my issue. Saved me hours of hold music hell.
honestly the whole ny unemployment system is a joke. i applied in december, got approved right away, then NOTHING for 8 weeks. finally called using claimyr.com and found out they had some random flag on my account that nobody bothered to tell me about. fixed in 5 minutes once i actually talked to someone.
This is why we need a public banking option! People without bank accounts pay hundreds or even thousands in check cashing fees every year. Its a poverty tax.

Anyone else notice the website is super slow today? Probably everyone trying to download their forms at once 😫

Soooo what happens if the 1099 shows the wrong amount and you can't get anyone on the phone to fix it? Do I just file with the wrong info or what? I don't wanna get flagged for tax fraud but it's literally impossible to reach anyone 😩

•Try claimyr.com - I was in the same situation and it got me through to an agent who fixed mine. Otherwise you might be waiting weeks to get it corrected.

•You should NOT file with incorrect info. That's just asking for trouble with the IRS later.
