Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. No payments for 7 weeks while ny unemployment investigates my claim after being fired

I was let go from my job on December 11th and filed for unemployment right away. The DOL started an investigation into my claim on December 19th, and I haven't heard anything or received a single payment since then. It's been over 7 weeks now and I'm completely out of savings. I've tried everything - calling at 7:58am right when they open, calling midday, sending multiple messages through the portal, and nothing has worked. Not a single update on my claim status or when I might get paid. Has anyone dealt with claim investigations before? Any advice on how to actually get someone to give me an update? This silence is driving me insane.

fun fact: the ny unemployment system is STILL using a computer system from the 1970s. Actual COBOL mainframes. no wonder everything is a mess 🤦‍♀️

Need help fixing my sister's NY unemployment application after making mistakes - she has MS and can't do it herself

I need some advice about fixing an unemployment application I messed up. My sister was diagnosed with MS last year and she had to stop working around November. She's been in and out of treatment centers since then and has zero income. She doesn't know how to navigate the unemployment website at all, so I tried to help set up her account and file the claim for her last month. Problem is, I think I entered some wrong information about her previous employer and work history. When I tried going back to fix these errors, the system wouldn't let me change anything, and now her claim is showing all these issues. I've been calling the helpline for 3 weeks straight and can't get through to anyone. I feel terrible because she's completely depending on me and I've just made things worse. Has anyone dealt with fixing application errors after submission? Is there any way to speak to a real person who can help us straighten this out? My sister has no money coming in and her medications are expensive.

So I had almost this exact problem when helping my uncle. After trying everything, I ended up emailing the commissioner's office directly with a clear subject line about disability and application errors. I got a call back within 48 hours from someone who could actually help. Worth a shot when you're desperate.

It was nysdolcommissioner@labor.ny.gov - not sure if it still works but worth trying. Put something clear in the subject like "Urgent Assistance Needed - Application Errors for Disabled Claimant

I just went thru this nightmare. I found their Twitter/X account and DM'd them my issue. Got a response within a day and they escalated my case. Try every channel possible - phone, email, social media, state rep, everything.

Any updates on when ny unemployment tourism recovery payments are coming?

I worked as a tour guide in NYC for almost 6 years before everything shut down in April 2022. Our company had to let go of nearly 80% of staff because tourism completely dried up. I applied for the Tourism Recovery Grant back in September when they announced it, and my application was approved in October. The confirmation email said payments would start going out in "early 2023" but it's now February and I haven't received anything. The status on my account just says "payment pending" for the past 3 months. I've tried calling the tourism recovery hotline like 30 times but either get disconnected or sit on hold for hours. Has anyone actually received their payment yet? My rent just went up $250 and I was really counting on this money. The website still says all approved applicants will receive $3,800 but gives no timeline anymore.

I've called the tourism recovery line 47 times in the last month. FORTY-SEVEN. Not once has anyone picked up within 2 hours. This system is completely broken.

Anyone received their ny unemployment tourism recovery payment yet?

So back in October 2023, I applied for the Tourism Recovery Fund after finding out I was eligible since I worked in a hotel before covid hit. I got an email in December saying I was approved for around $3800 and would get it in 4-6 weeks. It's now been almost 12 weeks and still nothing in my bank account or mailbox. I tried calling the number but it's always busy and the website just says "payment pending". Has anyone actually received their money from this program? I'm starting to think this whole thing was just false hope. Really need this cash to catch up on bills that piled up after being out of work for so long. Anyone else still waiting or had any luck getting through to someone who can actually help?

To everyone still waiting - hang in there! Just got my $4130 today after waiting since October. Was about to give up hope but it finally came through. The website still says "pending" even though the money is already in my account lol. Their system is clearly not updating properly.

This is why I hate dealing with NY unemployment. Nothing is ever straightforward or on time. At this point I'm more annoyed about the lack of communication than the delay itself. Just tell us what's happening instead of leaving everyone in the dark!

Identity theft messing up my NY unemployment claim - freaking out!

Someone stole my identity and filed for unemployment in my name! I only found out last week when I got a letter from NY unemployment saying my benefits were approved - but I never applied! I'm still working full time at my job and have been for the past 3 years. I immediately called my employer and they confirmed that no claim was filed through them. I tried calling the fraud department at NY unemployment for FOUR days straight and couldn't get through to anyone. Always busy signals or disconnections. Finally got through yesterday and the agent told me that someone had been collecting around $430 weekly benefits in my name since April (almost $8,600 total)! They used my correct SSN but a different bank account and phone number. The agent flagged my account for fraud investigation but said it could take 8-12 weeks to resolve. I'm completely stressed out about this. Will I have to pay back money I never received? Will this mess up my taxes? What if I actually need unemployment in the future? Has anyone dealt with this before?

not to be a downer but my brother's been fighting this same battle since Feb and still hasn't gotten it fully resolved. keep detailed records of every call and conversation. the system is completely overwhelmed right now.

This might sound crazy but try reaching out on Twitter too! Tag NYSDOLCommissioner and NYGovCuomo in a tweet about your situation. Sounds dumb but sometimes the public complaint gets faster action. Worked for me!

Public shaming is definitely effective sometimes 😂 I got my issue fixed after I left a detailed 1-star review on their Facebook page. Suddenly they found my case!
