NY unemployment website keeps crashing when trying to file weekly claim - anyone else?
Has anyone been struggling with the NY unemployment website lately? For the past 2 weeks I've been trying to file my weekly certification and the site keeps freezing or logging me out mid-process. I try different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even tried Internet Explorer) and nothing works. When I finally get through to the certification page, it crashes right when I hit submit. Called the helpline about 30 times and can't get a human. This is my 4th month on unemployment and never had these problems before. My rent is due next week and I'm panicking because I haven't received any payments since October 29th. Is the system down for maintenance or something? Any suggestions on how to actually complete a weekly certification without the site crashing?

OMG yes!! The website has been absolute garbage since they "upgraded" it last month. I've been trying for 5 days to certify and keep getting error messages or timeout errors. Super frustrating when you're already stressed about money.

•Exactly! Did you try calling? I can't even get through on the phone either...

•Calling is even worse lol. I spent 3 hours on hold yesterday before getting disconnected. This system is a joke.

After weeks of dealing with the same BS website issues, I finally found a service that helped me get through to a live agent. Used claimyr.com and they got me a callback with an actual human within an hour. Talking to the agent got my payments unlocked so fast after weeks of trying on my own. Best decision I made - check out their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch - it just works. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after 3 weeks of no benefits. The service calls for you and stays on hold, then connects you when a real person picks up. Saved me HOURS of hold music.

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? the unemployment system is basically designed to make us give up

•It worked for me! I was ready to throw my laptop out the window after trying for days. Got through to someone who fixed my account in like 10 minutes once I actually talked to them.

•How long did you have to wait for the callback? Been trying to reach them for weeks with no luck

•For me it was about 45 mins, but they say it varies. Still WAY better than sitting on hold all day or constantly redialing.

When I try during 'off hours' like really early morning (5-6am) or late at night (after 9pm) the site works a bit better. Not perfect but I can usually get through without it timing out. Try that maybe?

Heyyy - IT guy here. Few things you can try: 1. Clear your browser cache completely 2. Try using incognito/private browsing mode 3. Disable any browser extensions/add-ons 4. Try a different device if possible (tablet or phone) 5. Check if your internet connection is stable (try a speed test) The NY unemployment site is definitely overloaded and buggy, but sometimes these tech fixes help get through. If nothing else works, honestly using a service like claimyr.com is worth it - they'll get you connected to a live agent who can override system issues and process claims manually. Good luck!

•Thanks! I'll try all these. Already cleared cache but will try incognito mode too. Didn't know about that claimyr thing, might check it out if these don't work.

Its not just you the whole system is a dumpster fire right now. My friend works for the dept and says theyre dealing with a huge backlog + technical issues. Keep trying diff browsers and times of day.

•She says tuesday and wednesday mornings around 8:30am are slightly better. Avoid mondays like the plague.

•Mondays are THE WORST. I made that mistake and wasted 3 hrs of my life 🤮

i've been in the unemployment system for 7 months now and i've learned a few tricks. first off, dont use chrome. use firefox or edge. also try mobile - sometimes the mobile version of the site works better than desktop. but honestly the ONLY thing that consistently works is getting a human on the phone who can bypass all the website garbage and handle things manually.

Totally in the same boat. Website sucks, phone lines sucks, everything sucks. I caved and used claimyr.com to get a callback and finally got my issues resolved. Paid a fee but was worth it to finally get my money.

•Did you have to wait long for them to call you back?

•I got a callback in about 50 minutes. Then spent maybe 15 mins with the agent and they fixed everything. After weeks of nothing!

If ur having website issues u can also try to certify by phone at 1-888-581-5812. It's not ideal but sometimes works when the website is down.

•The phone system is almost worse! I tried that number and it kept hanging up on me after 2 hours on hold 😭

•Yep same experience, phone system is just as broken

I know this sounds dumb but sometimes the website works better if you use their mobile site even on a desktop computer. Just resize your browser window to be really narrow and it might load the mobile version which has less stuff to break lol

This might be a dumb question but have you tried a different device? My laptop couldn't get through but somehow my ancient iPad worked fine.

•Not dumb at all - I've only tried my laptop. I'll try my phone too, thanks!

Contact your state representative!!! For real, they can escalate your case. I was stuck in limbo for 2 months, called my assembly person's office, and they got it fixed in 3 days.

tbh ur not alone but u might want to check if ur IP is somehow flagged or blocked. sometimes they do that if they think ur account looks suspicious for some reason. try using a different internet connection or reset ur router.

•Wait this is a thing??? How do you know if you're flagged?

•My cousin works in IT security and said gov sites sometimes auto-flag IPs that have too many failed logins or weird patterns. Not saying that's definitely it but worth trying diff connection

I think they're updating the system or something. I called last week and the recording said they'd be doing maintenance but didn't say when. Classic NY unemployment failing to communicate anything useful 🙄
