Is anyone else having trouble with the slow NY unemployment website?

The NY unemployment website has been moving at a snail's pace for the last two days. I need to certify my weekly benefits and the pages are taking forever to load. Sometimes I click on a button and nothing happens for 5 minutes, then I get an error message. When I try again, it works but then freezes on the next step. I've tried different browsers (Chrome and Firefox) and even tried my phone, but it's all the same. I've been able to get through occasionally by just being super patient and waiting like 10 minutes between each click. Has anyone else been dealing with this? Any advice on the best time to log in when the site might be less busy? I'm worried about missing my certification window and losing a week of benefits.

Yea the website has been garbage lately. I tried at 2am last night and it was still slow but at least it didn't error out on me. Just wait for each step to completely load before clicking anything else. It took me about 25 mins to do what should take 2 mins but I got it done.

I tried at 4am and it was still slow af. I think they dont have enough servers or whatever to handle all of us 🤷‍♂️

I was having the exact same issues but I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual human at unemployment. Talking to an agent got my benefits processed right away instead of fighting with that broken website. They called unemployment for me and then connected me when an agent picked up. it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This sounds like an ad. Does this actually work or is it just another scam?

Not an ad lol. I was desperate after trying the website for 3 days straight. It actually works - they just keep calling the unemployment line for you so you don't have to. When they get through, they connect you.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

No catch. I was skeptical too but I was at my wits end. They just automate the calling part which is what drives everyone crazy. You still talk to the same NYSDOL agents.

I've used this service twice now. It saved me from throwing my phone through a window after being on hold for 4+ hours and then getting disconnected 🤬

I've found that early morning around 7-8am is slightly better. The site is always slow but it seems less people are trying to log in at that time. Also make sure you're not on WiFi that has too many people on it - that can make it worse!

Pro tip: Use Microsoft Edge browser! For some reason it works better with the NY unemployment site than Chrome or Firefox. Still slow but fewer errors. Also clear your cookies and cache before logging in.

omg this actually helped!! edge browser worked so much better for me

The entire NY unemployment system is a joke. I swear they make the website terrible on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. Been dealing with this for months now.

This 💯💯💯 They don't want us to get paid what we're owed

Not everything is a conspiracy. Their systems are just old and outdated, and weren't built to handle this many claims. Still frustrating tho

Here's what actually works for me: I've found that the site is WAY less busy on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Everyone tries to certify on Monday or Sunday night and it crashes the system. If you wait til midweek it's usually more stable.

But don't you have to certify on certain days? I thought we had to do it the week after the benefit week ends?

You have until Saturday following your benefit week to certify. So if your benefit week ends Sunday, you have almost a full week to do it. Doesn't have to be done right away on Monday.

THANK YOU! I had no idea. That helps a lot!

If you keep getting kicked out or errors, try doing ONLY ONE THING at a time. Don't open multiple tabs or try to click around. Just be patient, click once, and wait. Even if it seems frozen, don't click again. Sometimes it's actually working in the background.

After months of dealing with the terrible website, I finally broke down and used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get someone on the phone. Talking to a live person solved in 10 minutes what I couldn't fix in 3 weeks of trying online. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human.

not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

I get the skepticism. I felt the same way. But this isn't a hack - it's just a service that calls for you and stays on hold so you don't have to. When they get someone, they connect you to the same NYSDOL agents everyone else talks to.

did you have to give them all your personal info?

No, they just need your phone number to connect the call to you. They don't ask for any of your unemployment info or SSN or anything like that.

I work in IT and can tell you the problem is their servers are overloaded. The best times to access any government website are typically very early morning (4-6am) or late evening after 9pm. Avoid lunchtimes and right after work hours when everyone's trying to log in.

This is good advice for any govt site tbh. DMV website is the same way.

guys if the website is too slow just CALL THEM! I know the phone lines suck too but I finally got through after using claimyr.com and it changed everything. The agent fixed all my issues in like 5 minutes. Wish I'd done this weeks ago instead of fighting with that stupid website.

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different?

So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my friend told me about this. They just call for you and then ring your phone when they get through. You still talk directly to the unemployment office, they just handle the waiting part.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say the website has been working fine for me. Maybe it depends on where in NY you're located? I'm upstate and haven't had any issues.

Same here! I'm in Buffalo and while it's not FAST, it works consistently. Maybe it's regional servers or something?

Have you tried calling instead of using the website? The NY unemployment phone system is usually better than the website when there are technical issues like this.

Jacob Lewis

I tried calling but kept getting busy signals or it would hang up on me after I went through all the prompts. Have you actually gotten through on the phone?

It's tough to get through on the phone too, not gonna lie. I had to call like 50 times before getting in the queue, then waited 2 hours.

Been working in the unemployment system for over 15 years (now retired). Here's what you need to know about dealing with NY unemployment website issues: First, understand that the system is severely outdated - it was built decades ago and only gets band-aid fixes, not real updates. When it's slow, here's your best bet: - Try accessing between 4:30-6:30am or 8:30-10:00pm for fastest response times - Use a desktop/laptop with a wired connection if possible - Only use Chrome or Edge - Firefox and Safari have known compatibility issues - Clear your browser cache completely before attempting - Fill out one field at a time and wait for confirmation before proceeding - If you get an error, wait 30 minutes before trying again (your session may still be active in their system) If all else fails, calling is actually better but nearly impossible to get through. This is where services like claimyr.com can help - they basically automate the calling process to get you connected to a rep. Once you talk to a human, they can usually resolve issues the website can't. Hope this helps someone!
