Anyone else's NY unemployment certification page crashing mid-application?
For the past three weeks I've been trying to do my weekly certification and the system keeps crashing! I first noticed the problem in early June when I tried to certify on a Sunday evening (which I've been doing with no issues since April). Now every time I get to the question about job search activities, the page freezes and kicks me out. I've tried using different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even Edge), cleared my cache, and even borrowed my roommate's laptop. Nothing works! When I call the unemployment office, I can't even get through - just an automated message telling me they're experiencing high call volumes. I've sent 5 emails through their contact portal with ZERO response. My rent is due next week and I'm down to $170 in my account. This is beyond frustrating. Has anyone found a solution to this certification glitch? Is there a best time to try the website when it's less likely to crash?

Ugh yes, same exact problem here. I've been stuck in certification hell since May 27th. For me it crashes after the question about refusing work. I've tried late at night, early morning, even at like 3am thinking less traffic would help. No dice. The mobile site is even worse!

•Have you tried the phone certification system? I tried that too but kept getting a busy signal 😩

•Yeah I tried the phone system too but it keeps saying my information doesn't match their records?? Makes no sense since I've been certifying just fine for months.

I was having the EXACT same issue last month - couldn't certify for almost 3 weeks! I finally found this service called Claimyr that connected me directly to an unemployment agent who fixed everything on the spot. Best money I ever spent to get my benefits back on track. The agent told me there was some kind of technical issue with my account that was causing the certification to fail. Check out their demo: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•This sounds sketchy af... another 'miracle solution' that probably doesn't work 🙄

•Nah, it actually worked for me. I was desperate after not being able to certify for weeks. The service just connects you with a real person at unemployment instead of waiting on hold forever. The agent fixed my account in like 10 minutes.

•wait for real? how long did it take to get someone? i've been on hold for literal HOURS and no one ever picks up

•They called me back within about 45 mins. Way better than the 3+ hours I wasted trying to call myself. The agent said they're seeing a lot of accounts with this certification glitch lately.

•It worked for me! Check the link I posted above - they show how it works. claimyr.com saved me from missing another rent payment lol

Have you tried certifying at exactly 7:30am on Monday? That was the only time I could get thru last month when the site was being all glitchy. Apparently theres less traffic then.

Here's what I know about the certification issues (I used to work in IT and have been following this problem closely): The NY unemployment system is experiencing database overload issues during peak certification times. There's been a major technical problem since their May system update that's affecting approximately 15-20% of claims - especially those that started their benefit year in the last 3-4 months. Some solutions that have worked for people: 1) Try certifying during non-peak hours (Tuesday 2-5am has been reported as the most stable time) 2) Use the automated phone system (though it has its own problems) 3) Clear ALL browser data, disable extensions, and use incognito mode 4) If all else fails, you need to speak directly with a claims specialist who can manually override the certification block on your account Getting through to an agent is nearly impossible right now - I spent 14 hours on hold last week. Many people have had success using claimyr.com to get a callback from an agent. It costs money but was worth it for me to get my account fixed and benefits flowing again. Good luck - the system is a disaster right now but persistence pays off!

•Thanks for this detailed info! I'm going to try the Tuesday early morning trick tonight. If that doesn't work, I'll look into that claimyr service.

•Incognito mode didn't work for me 😭 but I'm gonna try at 3am tonight...this is ridiculous that we have to do this

Call your state representative!!! I had the same issue and emailed my assemblyman. His office contacted unemployment directly and got my certification issues fixed within 48 hours. It's literally their job to help with this stuff.

•This is actually great advice. My cousin did this and got results when nothing else worked. They have direct lines to DOL.

•I'll try this too! Do you just find them on the ny.gov website?

•Yeah just google "find my NY state assemblymember" and it'll take you to a page where you enter your address. Their offices deal with these problems all the time.

There's a backdoor way to certify! Go to the payment history page first, then click on your most recent payment, THEN click the certification link from there. For some reason this worked for me when the main certification page kept crashing. Worth trying!

My friend works at the DOL and said there getting a TON of complants about the certification page. She said their working on fixing it but could be weeks before its resolved. Something about the database needing to be rebuilt after they tried to patch security issues.

•That tracks with what I've been hearing too. They rushed out security patches after that data breach in April and it broke a bunch of other functionality.

I swear i'm THIS CLOSE to driving to albany and camping outside their office until someone helps me. Four weeks of no benefits because I can't certify!! What are we supposed to do??? Starve??

Guys try calling this number instead of the main one: 888-209-8124. It's their technical support line and sometimes has shorter wait times. Ask for a tier 2 specialist who can help with certification issues specifically.

Check if your account is flagged for identity verification! I had similar issues and turned out my account was waiting for ID verification even tho they never told me! Log into your account and look for any messages or tasks in your inbox.

Yall need to document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of the errors, write down times you tried to certify, record your phone calls. If you end up getting backpay you'll need this evidence. I learned this the hard way last time the ny unemployment system screwed me over.

•That's a good point. I've been taking screenshots but hadn't thought about documenting the call attempts too.

•I had the opposite - iPad failed but an old Android phone worked 🤷♀️

UPDATE: I finally got my certification to go through! Trick is to fill out everything SUPER SLOWLY. Like wait 30 seconds between each question. Seems like the system times out when you go too fast. Hope this helps someone else!

•Let me know if it works for you! I think the system is just completely overloaded and can't process multiple inputs quickly.

I couldn't certify for 5 weeks and was about to be evicted. I finally got through to someone using claimyr.com and they fixed my account in minutes. The agent told me there was a technical flag on my account that only they could remove. Got all my backpay three days later.

Is anyone else noticing the certification page works better with certain browsers? Chrome is a disaster for me but Firefox seems more stable.

I fixed mine by clearing cookies, restarting computer, logging in before 6am, and using Microsoft Edge (of all browsers!). The NY unemployment site seems to hate Chrome right now.

my theory: the website crashes on purpose to reduce how many people can certify and save the state money. call me conspiracy theorist but its been MONTHS and they haven't fixed it?? come on.

•Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. The NY DOL systems are running on 40-year-old COBOL code with bandaid patches.

•why not both? 🤔 incompetence they conveniently don't fix because it saves $$

Anybody try the new claimyr.com service? I'm seeing it mentioned all over twitter for ny unemployment issues. Desperate to get my certification working again.

•Yes! That's what I mentioned above - it worked for me after weeks of failed certification attempts. They actually got me connected to a real human at unemployment who fixed my account.

•It worked for me too - got all my backpay after 5 weeks of certification hell. The unemployment agent told me there was a system flag on my account that was causing the crashes.

I just want to know WHO to blame for this garbage system. We spend billions in taxes and can't get a website that actually works?? 🤬
