Is anyone else unable to login to NY unemployment? Getting 'Technical Error' message since Tuesday
I've been trying to login to my unemployment account since Tuesday to certify my weekly benefits, but keep getting this weird technical error screen. It says 'We apologize. There is a technical error. Your session has been terminated.' I've tried clearing my cache, using different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even Edge), and even borrowed my roommate's laptop, but nothing works. Every single time it crashes right after I enter my username and password. I called the helpline yesterday and waited on hold for over 2 hours before getting disconnected. This is really stressing me out because I need to certify by Saturday or I won't get paid next week. Has anyone else experienced this recently or know how to fix it? I really need this money for rent due on the 1st.

Yup, same thing happened to me starting on Monday night. I couldn't login for 3 days. I was freaking out! I finally found a way to reach a real person at unemployment who fixed it in 5 minutes. I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they call unemployment for you and when they get someone on the line, they transfer the call to your phone. Talking to an agent got my account unlocked so fast, it was the only way I could talk to a live agent after days of frustration. Check out this video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Does this actually work? I'm desperate at this point, been locked out for almost a week 😫

•100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but after wasting hours trying to get through the normal way, I was desperate. Got through to someone in like 40 mins instead of days of calling.

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch - they just automate the calling and waiting on hold part. When an agent answers, you get the call. Saved me from missing another week of benefits.

•I tried this last month when my claim got flagged for some reason. Talking to an actual person fixed everything in one call. Wish I knew about this earlier!

OMG this has been happening to me too!!! I thought it was just my crappy internet! I've been trying since Wednesday and still nothing. My rent is due next week and I'm seriously starting to panic. Has anyone gotten through to a human on the phone? I keep getting hung up on after waiting for like an hour.

•Try calling right when they open at 8am. That's the only time I've ever gotten through without a 3 hour wait.

•I tried that yesterday and there were already 127 people ahead of me in the queue 😭 I'll try again tomorrow I guess

This is a known issue with the NY unemployment system. Their servers get overloaded especially at the beginning of the month when everyone is certifying. Here's what worked for me: 1. Try logging in during off-peak hours (really early morning like 5am or late at night) 2. Make sure you're not using any VPN or ad blockers 3. Clear ALL browser data, not just cache 4. Try using the mobile site instead of desktop 5. If all else fails, you NEED to talk to a rep. I couldn't fix it myself and had to call. The NY unemployment system is notoriously glitchy. Last year they did a system upgrade that made everything worse. If you absolutely need to get through to someone, check out claimyr.com - it's the best money I've ever spent to get my benefits issue fixed. They keep calling until they get through, then connect you with an agent. Don't wait too long or you might miss certification window and have to request backpay which is another nightmare process.

•When I was missing out on $800 weekly payments because I couldn't certify, paying to get it fixed was a no-brainer. Time = money and all that. You only need it once to fix the issue usually.

I'm having the exact same issue!!! Been trying since Monday, absolutely nothing works. I read on Twitter that there's a system-wide glitch they're trying to fix. Supposedly if you miss certification because of their error, they'll let you backdate it... but who knows if that's true. This is so frustrating!!

It's almost like they WANT us to miss certification deadlines so they don't have to pay us. The whole system is designed to be difficult on purpose, change my mind.

•Facts. My friend works in IT and says their systems are outdated by like 20 years. They running unemployment on Windows 98 or somethin 💀

•THIS!!! They make it impossible then act like it's your fault when you can't certify on time.

•I'll try this! Didn't even think about using Internet Explorer since it's so old but worth a shot.

•let me know if it works for u. the site is built on ancient technology so sometimes the older browsers actually work better 🤦♂️

•Just tried it - still getting the same error. I'm starting to think it's something wrong with my account specifically.

Check if your account got flagged for identity verification. That happened to me and I got the same error. You won't know unless you actually talk to someone. I spent weeks trying to fix it myself before I finally got through to an agent who told me what was really going on.

•How can I tell if this is what happened to me? And how did you finally get through to an agent?

•You can't tell on your own - that's the problem. I tried calling like 50 times before I found claimyr.com which got me through. The agent told me my account was flagged for "suspicious activity" which was just me logging in from my parents' house while visiting them 🙄

This happened to me last month. I ended up driving to my local unemployment office in person and they fixed it on the spot. Not ideal but it worked. If you're desperate it might be worth the trip.

•which office did u go to? i heard most of them don't even take walk-ins anymore

•I went to the one in Rochester. They said they don't take walk-ins but the security guard felt bad for me and let me talk to someone anyway. Might depend on who's working that day tbh

Sometimes if you try to login too many times, they temporarily lock your account for security reasons. Try waiting 24 hours without attempting to login, then try again with a fresh browser. Worked for me once.

Have you checked your email? Sometimes they send notices about account issues but they go to spam. I missed one and my account was locked for verification.

•Just checked all my emails including spam folder. Nothing from unemployment in the past two weeks except my normal payment confirmations.

Did anyone else get a random 2-factor authentication text recently? I got one last week and ignored it cause I thought it was a scam, now I can't login. Wondering if it's related.

•OMG I DID! I thought it was a phishing attempt so I didn't click it. Maybe that's why we're all locked out???

My brother works in the NY govt (not unemployment but another agency) and he said they're doing system maintenance this week which is causing all kinds of problems. Supposedly it'll be fixed by Monday.

•That's too late for people who need to certify by Saturday! They should at least put a notice on the site 😡

•I know, it's ridiculous. He said even people inside the govt are frustrated with how they handle these updates.

The most reliable way to get this fixed is to contact your state representative/assemblyperson. Their offices can escalate unemployment issues. I was stuck in limbo for WEEKS until I did this and suddenly everything was fixed in 48 hours. Worth a try if nothing else works.
