NY unemployment website completely inaccessible for 3 days straight
Been trying to access the unemployment website since Wednesday to check on my claim status. Every time I try to log in, it either freezes up completely or gives me an error message about 'system maintenance'. I've tried at different times of day (early morning, afternoon, even 2 AM!) thinking maybe it was just high traffic, but nothing works. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Getting really stressed because I need to certify by Sunday and I'm afraid I'll miss my payment. Called the phone number 16 times but couldn't get through to a real person. This is my third month of unemployment and never had this issue before.

•Try using a different device. Sometimes my laptop won't work but my tablet does for some weird reason.

•Tried my phone, laptop, and even borrowed my roommates computer. Same problem on all of them!

•Its probably their servers again. Remember last year when they went down for like a week? Classic NY unemployment BS 🙄

After dealing with the same problem for DAYS, I finally found a solution! I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected with an actual human being at unemployment. They stayed on hold for me and then called me when they got through to an agent. The agent was able to help me certify by phone and confirmed the site is having major technical issues. Best money I've ever spent to get my benefits sorted out. Check out this video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS?

•100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after not being able to certify. The agent told me they've been swamped with calls because of the website issues.

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

•No catch - they just call the unemployment office for you and connect you when they get a human. Saved me literally hours of being on hold.

•I just checked out that video. Seems like they just do the waiting for you. Smart idea actually.

I think they're doing some major system updates. My friend works in IT and said they saw something on Twitter about the NY unemployment system getting a database upgrade this week. But of course they didn't bother to tell anyone or put a proper notification on the site 🤦♂️

•Do you know when it's supposed to be back up? I need to certify by Sunday!

•Supposedly by Friday afternoon but who knows with them lol. They're always behind schedule.

PSA: You can still certify by phone if the website is down! Call 1-888-581-5812 for regular UI claims. You'll need your PIN. It's automated and works 24/7. Not as convenient as the website but at least you won't miss your certification deadline.

•Keep trying! It took me like 8 attempts but eventually got through around 11pm when less people were calling

Not just you, I think half of NY is having the same problem right now. My neighbor said she got through by using Internet Explorer of all things. Might be worth a try if you're desperate.

I work in web development and this is 100% a server-side issue with their database. Nothing you can do on your end will fix it - they need to resolve it on their side. Classic government IT infrastructure failing when people need it most.

•any idea how long these types of issues usually take to fix?

•Depends on what's broken. Could be hours, could be days. For government systems, triple whatever the normal timeframe would be 😂

Here's what I've learned after dealing with NY unemployment for 5 months: The website goes down frequently, especially end of month when too many people are certifying at once. Your best options are: 1) Try very early morning (4-5am) when traffic is lowest 2) Use the automated phone system for certifying 3) If you absolutely need to speak to someone, use Claimyr.com - they'll wait on hold and get you connected to an agent 4) Check their Twitter for updates (sometimes they post about outages) 5) If you miss certification because of their system issues, explain that when you eventually get through and they can usually backdate it The system is incredibly frustrating but hang in there. Document everything - screenshot error messages, note dates/times you tried to access the system. This can help if they try to deny you benefits because of their own technical issues.

•This is super helpful, thank you!! I'm gonna try the early morning trick tomorrow and see if it works.

•Can vouch for claimyr.com too. Used it last month when I had an issue with missing payments and it was the only way I actually got to talk to someone with authority to fix my claim.

I found a workaround!!! If you go to the mobile version of the site (just add /m to the end of the URL) it seems to be working. Just certified this way and got my confirmation number. Interface is ugly but it works!

•Weird, maybe they fixed it for some regions but not others? I'm in Buffalo area if that helps.

anyone try calling their local unemployment office instead of the main number? sometimes the local offices can help when the main system is down.

•they all just redirect you to the main number now. tried this last week 😑

The WORST part is that they'll probably blame us if we miss certification because THEIR system is down. Classic ny unemployment move.

If you absolutely need to get through right now, check out claimyr.com - it costs money but it's the only thing that worked for me last time this happened. they call the office for you and connect you with an agent when they get through.

•not falling for another unemployment 'hack'... these never work

Aiden Rodríguez
•It's not a hack, it's just a service that calls and waits on hold for you. I was desperate after not getting through for 2 weeks. talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast

•So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my cousin told me about this. It actually worked and saved my sanity.

This feels deliberate tbh. Election year and they're making it harder to collect benefits. 🤔

•Not everything is a conspiracy. IT systems break, especially government ones running on outdated tech.

•Look at the pattern tho. Website issues always happen right when ppl need to certify. Just saying 🧠
