EDD certification page freezes when entering income for second week - can't submit

Am I the only one who can't complete certification right now? The UI Online system lets me fill out everything for the first week fine, but when I try entering my part-time income for the second week ($278), the page freezes completely! I've tried three different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, even Edge) and it does the same thing every time. I managed to take a screenshot of the error that briefly flashes before it locks up: 'System processing error: Contact EDD'. Been trying since yesterday afternoon and getting desperate since my rent is due next week. Has anyone else experienced this glitch with the certification page? Any workarounds?

OMG SAME THING HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!!! Been trying since midnight and keep getting stuck at the second week income part. System just hangs and then crashes. So frustrating!!!! Did you try clearing your cache? I tried that and still nothing works. EDD website is THE WORST!!!

Tried clearing cache, cookies, even restarted my computer. Nothing works. Did you also get that weird error message flashing briefly? I'm wondering if it's a system-wide issue or just affecting certain claims.

This actually happens at the beginning of every quarter when their system updates. I've been on UI for almost a year and noticed this pattern. The certification system usually goes back to normal within 48 hours. Try these workarounds: 1. Instead of entering income on that specific page, try entering it on the summary page at the end 2. Try certifying very early morning (like 3-4am) when server load is lower 3. Use the automated phone system (1-866-333-4606) to certify instead Option 3 is what I had to do last quarter when this happened. It's annoying but works!

Thank you! I had no idea there was a phone certification option. Will try that tonight if the website is still giving me trouble. Do I need my customer account number for the phone system?

I think what happening is the EDD system cant handle decimal points right now? Try entering your income as whole dollars without cents. Worked for me after like 20 tries lol

Former EDD employee here. This is a known issue that happens when their database is undergoing maintenance while still allowing certifications (poor system design). If you're experiencing this problem and need to get through to an agent who can manually process your certification, I'd recommend using Claimyr. It's a service that helps you get through to EDD agents without spending hours on hold. Just go to claimyr.com and watch how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km They can connect you to an agent who can override the system issue and process your certification manually. I've referred several people with similar issues and it's much faster than waiting for the system to be fixed.

Just checked out the video. Looks like it might be worth trying if I can't get the phone certification to work. Have you used it yourself recently? Just wondering if it still works with current EDD phone systems.

I'll try that too! Desktop site is completely useless right now 😤

When I had this issue last certification period, I discovered it was actually because I'd been working for a new employer who hadn't reported my wages to EDD yet. The system has trouble processing income from employers not already in your file. Could that be part of your situation?

That's interesting! I did pick up some gig work this month through DoorDash that I haven't reported before. Maybe that's causing the problem? But shouldn't the system still let me input the information regardless?

To answer your follow-up question: Yes, you'll need your Customer Account Number for the phone certification. It's the 10-digit number on your EDD notifications. And regarding gig work like DoorDash - that actually explains a lot. The system sometimes flags for additional review when you first report gig economy earnings, especially if you're reporting as self-employment income vs. W2 income. The freeze is likely the system not knowing how to categorize your new income source. If you're still having trouble tomorrow, call early (right when they open at 8am) and specifically ask for a tier 2 specialist who can help with certification issues involving new income sources.

Thank you for all the detailed help! I tried the whole dollar amount trick and it actually worked! Was able to complete my certification just now. For anyone else having this issue - don't enter any cents, just the dollar amount.

If you're consistently having this problem, you should request a paper certification form. You can call and ask them to mail you the paper forms for several weeks at once. Then you just mail them back. It's old school but works when the website is giving you trouble repeatedly.

I've been dealing with EDD system issues for months now and here's what I've learned works best: First, try the mobile site like Ryan suggested - it really does handle these glitches better. If that doesn't work, the phone certification system (1-866-333-4606) is your best backup. But here's a pro tip nobody mentioned - if you're entering gig work income for the first time, call EDD first to add the "employer" to your file before certifying online. This prevents the system freeze because it already knows how to categorize your income. I had to do this when I started doing Uber and it saved me hours of frustration. The whole dollar trick works too, but it's just a temporary workaround - the real fix is making sure your income sources are properly set up in their system first.
