EDD website login error - anyone else locked out today?

I've been trying to log in to my EDD UI Online account since 6am this morning to complete my bi-weekly certification and keep getting an 'Unexpected Error' message after entering my password. The page refreshes and kicks me back to the login screen. I've tried different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and even Edge), cleared my cache, and restarted my computer but nothing's working. I need to certify today or I'll miss my payment window! Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me? The EDD automated phone system isn't letting me certify either - it says 'the system is currently unavailable.' Are they doing maintenance or something?

Good to know it's not just me. Have you tried calling them? I'm on attempt #12 and still can't get through...

This happens at least once a month. EDD's systems are notoriously unreliable, especially on Sundays when everyone's trying to certify at the same time. The website usually comes back up by afternoon. If your certification deadline is today, don't worry - if it's a system-wide issue, they'll extend the deadline automatically. They've had to do this several times in the past year when their system crashed.

Not always true!! Last time this happened to me they DIDNT extend and I had to call like 50 times to get my payment processed after the system came back up. Don't just assume they'll fix it automatically!!

I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!! Been trying to log in since 7:30am and getting nowhere. This is the third time this has happened during my claim period. I HATE the EDD website with a passion. How can a government agency that handles MILLIONS of people's financial lifelines have such a garbage system??? My rent is due in 3 days and I need this certification to process!!

Try logging in around 2-3pm today. EDD usually resolves these issues by afternoon. Also, a pro tip - certify at odd hours like very early morning (4-5am) or late evening to avoid the heavy traffic times when the system gets overloaded. I've been on UI for 7 months and haven't had a login issue since I started doing this.

I work in IT and this looks like a classic case of server overload. EDD's systems weren't designed to handle the current volume of claims they're processing. When everyone tries to certify on Sunday mornings, their servers can't keep up. Try these troubleshooting steps: 1. Wait until off-peak hours (after 8pm tonight or very early tomorrow) 2. Use the mobile site instead of the desktop version 3. If you still can't get in by tomorrow, call EDD directly Also, remember that you have a 14-day window to certify, so missing today won't necessarily delay your payment.

Thanks for the detailed advice. I didn't know about the mobile site being separate - I'll definitely try that! And you're right about the 14-day window, but in my experience, if I don't certify on my assigned day, my payment gets delayed by at least a week. Really hoping to avoid that this time.

I had this problem last month when trying to log in to check on my disqualification status. If you need to talk to an EDD rep (which I eventually did), try using Claimyr.com - it's a service that helps you get through to EDD phone lines without the constant busy signals and hangups. Worked for me after trying to call for three days straight with no luck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

Is anyone else getting a different error? Mine says "Account Temporarily Locked" but I definitely didn't enter my password wrong. I'm worried I got hacked or something!

That's a different issue. When there are server problems, sometimes the authentication system flags accounts as potentially compromised. Once the system is back up, you should be able to use the account recovery option. If not, you'll need to call EDD to have them manually unlock your account.

Just an update for everyone - I just successfully logged in at 2:45pm. Looks like the system is back up and running now. Try again if you were having issues earlier!

Thank you! Just got in and was able to certify. What a relief! Hopefully everyone else can get through now too.

For those who are still having issues after the system comes back up, sometimes your browser stores corrupted cookies from the failed login attempts. Try these steps: 1. Clear browser cache and cookies specifically for edd.ca.gov 2. Restart browser completely 3. Try incognito/private browsing window 4. Check that your internet connection is stable I've found that doing a full browser reset helps 90% of the time when these login glitches happen.

I just tried your suggestion and it worked! I was still getting errors even after others said the system was back up. Clearing the cookies specifically for EDD (not everything) did the trick.

This is exactly why I always try to certify on weekdays when possible! I learned the hard way that Sunday mornings are the worst time to use the EDD site. I've been dealing with UI claims for almost a year now and I've noticed the system is much more stable Tuesday-Thursday between 10am-2pm. I know it's not always possible to avoid your assigned certification day, but if you have flexibility, those are the golden hours. Also, bookmark the mobile version of the site (m.edd.ca.gov) as a backup - it sometimes works when the main site is down because it runs on different servers.

This is super helpful advice! I'm new to the unemployment system and had no idea there were better times to use the site. I've been trying to certify whenever I remember, which is usually Sunday mornings like today when I have time. Definitely going to try those weekday hours you mentioned. Quick question - do you know if there's a way to change your assigned certification day, or are you stuck with whatever day they give you initially?
