NY unemployment website glitch preventing weekly certification - anyone else?

Is anyone else having trouble with their NY unemployment account today? I've been trying to do my weekly certification for the past 2 hours but the system keeps freezing on the login page. Sometimes it lets me get to the certification questions but then crashes when I try to submit. Really frustrating since the deadline is tonight and I can't afford to miss a payment. Anyone know if the system is down or if there's a workaround?

Yes!! Same issue here. The website keeps timing out for me too. I thought it was just my internet, but I checked on my phone's data and still having the same problem. Tried on Chrome and Safari. NYSDOL really needs to fix their website, this happens at least once a month I swear.

Glad it's not just me! Any luck getting through yet? I'm still trying every 15 minutes with no success.

happens every other sunday i swear 🙄 too many ppl tryin to certify at once probably

This is correct. The system experiences high traffic volumes on Sundays since many claimants wait until the last day to certify. Try certifying very early in the morning (before 7am) or late at night (after 11pm) when traffic is lower. Also, if you're using a mobile device, switch to a desktop computer if possible, as the mobile interface is more prone to timing out during high-traffic periods.

I ended up missing a week last month because of this EXACT same problem. Called them the next day and they said I had to wait until the following week and do two certifications at once. So annoying!!! But at least I got both payments eventually.

That's what I'm afraid of! I can't afford to wait an extra week for my payment right now. Bills are due. :

After struggling with this same issue for WEEKS (seriously the NY unemployment website is the WORST), I finally found a service called Claimyr that let me get through to an actual agent on the phone. You can check out how it works at claimyr.com or see their demo video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE They connected me to an agent who could process my certification over the phone when the website wasn't working. Saved me so much stress after trying to get through myself for days.

does it actually work? seems sketchy tbh

Sometimes the problem is actually your browser cache. Try clearing your cookies and cache, then restart your browser completely before trying again. This fixed it for me twice now when I was having similar issues with the certification page freezing.

The NYSDOL system is GARBAGE!!! This is BY DESIGN to make it harder for people to get their benefits. My sister works in IT and she says a system this bad for this long has to be intentional. They're probably saving millions by having a broken website that prevents people from claiming. And then they blame US when payments get missed. I've had this happen 4 times in the last 3 months. Complete disaster.

I don't disagree but i think it's also just old technology that can't handle the number of people. My friend who works for the state (not unemployment) says most of their systems are from like the 90s lol

If you're unable to certify online before the deadline, call the Tel-Service line at 888-581-5812. This automated phone system is available 24/7 and allows you to certify for benefits when the website is down. Have your PIN ready. If that doesn't work, try the alternate certification number at 877-280-4541. If you do miss today's deadline, you can certify for multiple weeks at once starting tomorrow, though there may be a slight delay in payment processing. Don't worry - you won't lose the payment completely if you miss a single certification deadline.

Hey everyone! Just an update - I just got through on the website! Seems like they fixed whatever was going on. Try it now if you're still having issues.

For future reference, the NYSDOL actually posts system outages and maintenance schedules on their Twitter account @NYSLabor. They don't always update it immediately when there's an unexpected issue, but it's worth checking there first to see if there's a known problem before you spend hours trying to get through.
