NY unemployment website not letting me claim benefits at my usual time - system down?
Is anyone else having trouble claiming their weekly NY unemployment benefits right now? I always claim around this time (Tuesday afternoon) but the system seems to be down or something. When I try to log in and certify, the page just keeps loading forever. I tried refreshing and even tried a different browser but nothing's working. Has NYSDOL shut down the system temporarily? I'm getting worried because I can't afford to miss this week's certification. Anyone else experiencing this or know what's going on?

Glad it's not just me! I was worried my account had some kind of problem. Still doesn't solve the issue though... I really need to certify today.

The NY unemployment system sometimes undergoes maintenance or experiences high traffic volume that causes slowdowns. Tuesday afternoons are actually peak certification times. I'd recommend trying again either early morning (around 7:30am) or late evening after 8pm when traffic is typically lower. The system isn't completely shut down - just experiencing delays. Your certification window is open until Saturday at midnight, so you still have plenty of time.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize Tuesday was a peak time. I'll try again tonight then. I just get nervous about missing a week because I really rely on that money.

I had the same problem for THREE WEEKS and nearly lost my mind trying to certify. The website would just spin forever or crash. After struggling with the website, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual person at NYSDOL. They have this video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE. The agent told me there was a technical flag on my account causing the issue, and they fixed it immediately. Saved me weeks of stress and waiting.

Maybe I should switch to mornings then? I've always done afternoons because of my part-time job schedule.

They ALWAYS do this!!! System is probably "down for maintenance" but they never bother to TELL anyone or post notices! I've been collecting since January and the website crashes at least once a month. But then they penalize US if we're late certifying. The whole system is designed to make people give up.

There's actually a system status page on the NYSDOL website that shows planned maintenance windows. They typically schedule maintenance during off-peak hours (2am-5am) and post notices 48 hours in advance. What you're experiencing is more likely high traffic volume rather than planned downtime.

Sometimes when this happens to me, I find that clearing my browser cache helps. Also, are you using any VPN? The unemployment website sometimes blocks certain VPN connections because they look suspicious. If you're on mobile, try a desktop computer instead - the mobile version of the site has more issues in my experience.

I'll try clearing my cache, thanks! I'm not using a VPN but I was on my phone. Will try my laptop instead.

This is a known issue happening today. According to the NYSDOL Twitter account (@NYSLabor), they're experiencing higher than normal traffic due to the quarterly tax filing deadline coinciding with regular certification activity. They've increased server capacity and expect the system to be fully operational by 6pm today. In the meantime, you can also try the automated phone certification system at 1-888-581-5812 which appears to be working normally.
