NY unemployment website not working this morning - anyone else having claiming issues?
Is anyone having any issues this morning with claiming weekly NY unemployment benefits online? I've been trying since 7:30 and haven't been able to get through. The site keeps timing out after I enter my NY.gov ID. Tried on both my phone and laptop. Getting really annoyed because I need to certify today!

Same here. Been trying since 8am and keep getting either the spinning wheel of death or an error about high traffic volume. Their system always seems to crash on Monday mornings when everyone's trying to certify. I finally got through by using Claimyr.com - it helped me get a callback from an actual agent who processed my claim over the phone instead. They have a quick demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE that explains how it works. Saved me hours of frustration after trying all morning.

•Thanks, I've never heard of that service before. Did they actually get you through to someone? I've been trying to call too but just get the automated system telling me all agents are busy.

•It's not actually down for everyone. The system uses load balancing, so some people can get through while others can't. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then restart your browser completely. That worked for me just now. Also, try very early morning (like 6AM) or late evening (after 7PM) when traffic is lower.

I was able to get through around 9:15am after trying for an hour. What helped me was switching to Internet Explorer (not Chrome or Firefox) and clearing all my cookies first. The site seems to be working better now than it was earlier this morning. Keep trying every 15-20 minutes and you should eventually get through. Remember you have until midnight tomorrow to certify for last week.

•Internet Explorer??? That browser has been discontinued. I think you mean Microsoft Edge. But anyway, I'm STILL unable to access the system at 11:30am. This is completely unacceptable! Some of us rely on these payments to SURVIVE and they can't even maintain a functioning website!!! I've been trying for 3 hours now.

This happens EVERY SINGLE WEEK! I swear the NY unemployment system is designed to make people give up. Been dealing with this for 5 months now and I've learned to just certify late at night or super early Tuesday morning instead. Mondays are always a disaster.

•Absolutely true. I've been on NY unemployment since January and I've learned to never try certifying on Mondays before noon. Too many people all trying at once. Tuesday mornings around 8am have always worked smoothly for me. You still have until midnight tomorrow to certify for last week, so don't stress too much about it today.

Update: I finally got through around noon! The site seems to be working better now. For anyone still having issues, keep trying and hopefully it'll work for you too.

For those still experiencing issues, the NYSDOL has acknowledged the system slowdown on their Twitter account. They recommend trying during off-peak hours and assure that everyone will have the opportunity to certify. Remember that you have until midnight on Tuesday to complete your weekly certification without any delay in payment processing. If you consistently have trouble with the website, you can also certify by phone using the Tel-Service system at 1-888-581-5812. The automated system is available 24/7.

•The phone system is just as bad! It hangs up on you after going through all the prompts. I've tried 6 times today. This whole department needs a complete overhaul. Absolutely ridiculous.

Does anyone know if this will delay our payments??? I NEED my money to hit my account by Thursday to pay my rent! I cannot afford any delays this week. Will they still process everything on time even with these website issues?

•As long as you certify by midnight tomorrow (Tuesday), your payment timeline shouldn't be affected. The processing usually takes 1-2 business days after certification, so you should see the deposit by Thursday as usual. The system issues today don't impact their payment processing schedule once your certification goes through.

I had this problem a couple weeks ago. What worked for me was using a different web browser (I switched from Chrome to Firefox) and making sure I wasn't using any VPN or ad blockers. Sometimes those security features can mess with government websites. Also I found that the mobile version of the site worked when the desktop version was having problems.

•That's good advice about the mobile version! I forgot to mention that using the mobile site worked for me in the past too. It seems to use a different server setup that doesn't get as overloaded as the main website.

Just wanted to add that I experienced the same issue this morning around 9am. What finally worked for me was switching to incognito/private browsing mode and trying the mobile version of the site like others mentioned. I think the combination of clearing all stored data and using the mobile interface helped bypass whatever was causing the timeout errors. Got through on my third attempt that way. Hope this helps anyone still struggling!

•Thanks for sharing that tip about incognito mode! I'm new to dealing with NY unemployment and didn't realize the website had so many issues. I've been stressing out all day thinking I was doing something wrong. Going to try the mobile site in private browsing mode now - hopefully that works for me too!

I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now! Been trying since 10am and keep getting kicked out after entering my credentials. This is my first time having to deal with NY unemployment and I had no idea the system was this unreliable. I'm really worried about missing the deadline - does anyone know what happens if you can't certify by midnight tomorrow due to technical issues on their end? Will they give extensions or do you just lose that week's benefits? This is causing me so much anxiety since I really need these payments to come through on schedule.
