NY unemployment website login issues today - anyone else locked out?
Is the NY unemployment website acting up for anyone else today? I've been trying to log in since 7am to do my weekly certification and keep getting an error message saying "authentication failed" even though I KNOW I'm using the right password. Tried on my phone and laptop, same problem. This is stressing me out because tomorrow is the deadline for this week's cert and I really can't afford to miss a payment right now. Anyone having similar problems or is it just me?

Oh thank god it's not just me! Did you try calling the helpline? I tried but got the "high call volume" message and it hung up on me.

There's currently a system-wide login issue with the NY.gov ID system that affects unemployment access. The NYSDOL posted about it on their Twitter account about 30 minutes ago saying they're working on it. They recommend not trying to reset your password during this time as it might create additional problems with your account when the system comes back online.

No specific ETA yet, but they usually resolve these issues within 24 hours. If you're concerned about missing your certification window, remember that you actually have until Saturday at midnight to certify for the previous week (though they recommend doing it by Tuesday). The system might show a deadline of Tuesday, but certifications are accepted through Saturday without penalty.

I had the EXACT same issue this morning! Freaked me out because I just started claiming 2 weeks ago. I actually managed to get through to someone on the phone after trying for like an hour. The rep confirmed they're having widespread login issues today and said not to worry about the certification deadline - they're extending it because of the system problems. She said to try again tonight or tomorrow morning.

This happens at least once a month with the NY unemployment system. I've been claiming since January and I've noticed it's usually when they're updating something. Best advice is to wait a few hours, clear your cache/cookies, and try again. DON'T keep trying to log in repeatedly because too many failed attempts will lock your account for 24 hours (happened to me in February).

That's good to know about the account locking! I've probably tried to log in like 15 times already. Do you know if they'll actually extend the certification deadline because of this? I'm so paranoid about missing payments.

Yes, when they have system-wide issues like this, they typically extend the certification window automatically. You won't need to do anything special to request the extension. Even if they don't formally announce it, I've certified as late as Thursday following system issues and still received my payment on time. The system is frustrating but they do have protocols for these situations.

I'm having the SAME ISSUE and I'm FURIOUS!!! This is the 3rd time this has happened to me this year. Last time I missed my certification because of THEIR system error and then had to spend 2 WEEKS getting it fixed and backpaid. Why can't they fix their garbage website?? People rely on this money for SURVIVAL and they treat us like we're nothing. I bet the government employees who run this broken system never miss THEIR paychecks!!! 😡😡😡

I feel ur frustration. When this happened to me in March, I called the Ombudsman office instead of regular unemployment. They have a separate phone line and I got through in about 20 mins. They were able to push my certification through manually. Might be worth trying if the site doesn't come back up soon.

UPDATE: The site is working again, at least for me! Just successfully logged in and completed my certification. Might want to try again now if you were having issues earlier.

This reminds me of when I was on unemployment in 2023 and their system would go down EVERY Tuesday morning like clockwork. I started doing my certifications on Monday night to avoid the rush. Actually kinda surprised they haven't fixed these issues by 2025!

guys always screenshot ur confirmation number when u certify!! saved me so many times when the system glitched and they tried to say i never certified. if u have the confirmation number they cant deny it.

This is excellent advice. I'd add that you should also take screenshots of any error messages you receive when trying to log in or certify. Documentation is incredibly important when dealing with any unemployment issues. It's also helpful to note the exact date and time when errors occur or when you complete your certification.
