ID.me Account Suspended - Can't Access IRS Transcripts - No Response from Support

My ID.me account got suspended out of nowhere and I cant access my transcripts anymore. Been trying to email them for weeks with no response. Already tried making a new account but that didnt work either. Anyone know how to actually get in touch with a real person at ID.me?

You have a few options here. First, try calling ID.me directly at 866-775-4363. Their phone support is generally better than email. You can also try reaching out to them on Twitter @IDmeSupport. If those don't work, you can request your transcripts by mail using Form 4506-T or visit your local IRS office in person.

The phone line is a joke, been on hold for 2 hrs and got disconnected twice 🤡

Instead of dealing with all this back and forth, you might want to check out taxr.ai. It's this new tool that analyzes your transcripts and helps you understand whats going on. Only costs a buck and its way better than trying to figure everything out yourself. https://taxr.ai

Does it actually work? Seems too good to be true tbh

Yeah its legit! Used it last week and it broke down everything in my transcript perfectly. Saved me hours of research

Just tried it and WOW! This thing is incredible! Explained everything about my account freeze that I've been trying to figure out for months 💯

same thing happened to me last month. the whole id.me system is broken af

Pro tip: Go to your local taxpayer advocate service office. They can pull your transcripts without needing id.me

This!! The advocate service is the best kept secret fr fr

Check if your state has a free tax transcript service. Some states let you bypass id.me completely

Had the exact same issue! What worked for me was filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). They forwarded it to ID.me and I got my account restored within 3 days. You can file online at consumerfinance.gov - just select "Credit reporting" then "Incorrect information on credit report" and explain the ID.me suspension is blocking access to government services. Worth a shot!

This is actually genius advice! I never would have thought to file with CFPB for an ID.me issue. Definitely going to try this if the phone support doesn't work out. Thanks for sharing! @Edison Estevez

Another option if you're still stuck - try contacting your local congressperson's office. They have caseworkers who specifically handle federal agency issues and can sometimes cut through the red tape with ID.me on your behalf. I had to do this for a different IRS issue and they were surprisingly helpful. You can find your rep's contact info on house.gov or senate.gov.

Great suggestion! Congressional offices are really underutilized for these kinds of bureaucratic nightmares. They have dedicated staff for constituent services and actually get results. Might be faster than waiting on hold for hours with ID.me customer service.

I work in tax resolution and see this ID.me suspension issue constantly. Here's what usually works: 1) Call 866-775-4363 early morning (7-8am) for shortest wait times, 2) If that fails, file complaints with both CFPB (as Edison mentioned) AND the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov under "identity theft" since ID.me suspensions often involve identity verification issues, 3) As a last resort, you can always request transcripts by mail using Form 4506-T which takes 5-10 business days but bypasses ID.me entirely. Don't waste time making new accounts - they flag that and make things worse.

This is super helpful advice! I'm dealing with a similar situation and had no idea about the early morning call times or that making new accounts could make things worse. Quick question - when you file with the FTC under "identity theft", do you need to provide any specific documentation or just explain the ID.me suspension situation? @Salim Nasir

@Salim Nasir For the FTC filing, you just need to explain the situation - that ID.me suspended your account without explanation and it s'blocking access to government services. No special documentation required, just be clear about how it s'impacting your ability to get tax documents. The FTC complaint form is pretty straightforward and they ll'walk you through it. Also wanted to add - if you re'in a time crunch for tax filing, some local VITA Volunteer (Income Tax Assistance sites) can help you request transcripts through alternative methods. Worth checking irs.gov/vita for locations near you.

I went through this exact nightmare last year! Here's what finally worked for me: Contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 800-366-4484. They handle complaints about tax-related services including ID.me issues that block IRS access. I filed a complaint explaining how the suspension prevented me from accessing my transcripts for months, and they actually escalated it directly to ID.me's government services team (not regular customer support). Got my account restored in about a week. You can also file online at tigta.gov under "IRS Service Complaints." It's specifically for situations where third-party services are interfering with taxpayer rights. Way more effective than regular ID.me support!

This is exactly the kind of info I was hoping to find! I had no idea TIGTA could handle ID.me complaints - that's brilliant. The fact that they have a direct line to ID.me's government services team makes so much sense. Definitely going to try this approach since regular customer support has been useless. Thanks for sharing your experience! @Emily Jackson

Been dealing with ID.me issues myself and found a few things that helped: If you have a smartphone, try using their mobile app instead of the website - sometimes it works when the web version doesn't. Also, if you're a veteran or active military, ID.me has a separate support line specifically for service members that tends to be more responsive. And here's something most people don't know - if you have an existing Login.gov account, you can sometimes use that to access IRS services instead of ID.me. Worth checking if your transcripts are available through the Login.gov pathway. The whole system is frustrating but don't give up!

Thanks for the mobile app tip! I actually didn't know about the Login.gov alternative either - that could be a game changer for people who are completely locked out of ID.me. Quick question though - does the Login.gov route give you access to the same transcript types (like the full account transcripts) or is it more limited? Also wondering if anyone knows if there are any differences in processing times between the two systems? @Anastasia Popov

I went through this same mess a few months ago and it was absolutely infuriating! What ended up working for me was a combination approach - I filed complaints with both CFPB (like Edison mentioned) and also reached out to my state's attorney general office since ID.me has contracts with state governments too. The AG's office actually has more leverage than you'd think. Also, if you're completely stuck and need transcripts urgently, you can walk into any IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center with photo ID and they'll print them on the spot - no ID.me required. Use the IRS office locator tool to find one near you. It's old school but it works when all the digital stuff fails!

This is really solid advice! I didn't know you could just walk into an IRS office and get transcripts printed without ID.me - that's a huge relief to know there's still a non-digital option. The state AG approach is smart too since they probably have more pull with companies that have government contracts. Thanks for sharing what actually worked for you! @Raúl Mora

I've been through this exact situation and it's incredibly frustrating! One thing that worked for me was documenting everything - save screenshots of the suspension notice, keep records of all your contact attempts with ID.me, and note down dates/times of calls. This documentation becomes really valuable if you need to escalate through TIGTA or file complaints with CFPB like others have mentioned. Also, if you're dealing with this during tax season, remember that you can request an extension to file your return (Form 4868) which gives you more time to sort out the ID.me mess without penalty. The IRS understands that third-party verification issues can delay access to necessary documents. Hang in there - with all the great suggestions in this thread, you should be able to get it resolved!

This is excellent advice about documentation! I'm actually dealing with a similar ID.me suspension right now and hadn't thought about requesting a filing extension. That takes a lot of pressure off while working through all these different escalation options everyone has shared. Quick question - when you documented everything, did you find that having specific screenshots and call logs actually helped speed up the resolution process with TIGTA or CFPB? Also wondering if anyone has experience with how long the Form 4868 extension gives you - is it enough time to realistically get through the ID.me bureaucracy? @Maggie Martinez

I'm dealing with a similar ID.me suspension issue right now and this thread has been incredibly helpful! I had no idea about so many of these options - TIGTA, CFPB complaints, congressional offices, and especially the Treasury Inspector General route that @Emily Jackson mentioned. It's crazy how a third-party verification system can completely block access to your own tax records. I'm definitely going to try the early morning call strategy @Salim Nasir suggested first, then escalate through TIGTA if that doesn't work. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's reassuring to know there are actual solutions beyond just waiting on hold forever!

So glad this thread is helping you too! I just went through this whole ID.me nightmare myself last month and honestly, reading everyone's suggestions here makes me wish I'd found this community sooner. The TIGTA route that @Emily Jackson shared is definitely worth trying - it seems like they have the most direct path to actually getting results. Also wanted to add that if you re'in a rush and the morning call times don t'work out, I ve'heard some people have luck messaging ID.me on LinkedIn too sounds (weird but desperate times! .)Keep us posted on what works for you - I m'sure other people will run into this same issue and your experience could help them! @Grace Johnson
