ID.me Account Suspended - Can't Access Transcripts, No Response from Support

My ID.me account got suspended out of nowhere and I need to check my transcripts. Sent them an email days ago but crickets. Anyone know how to actually get in touch with them? Starting to get really frustrated since I need to check my refund status.

Former IRS rep here. Best way to handle ID.me issues is to call their support directly at 866-775-4363. Their email support is swamped. You can also try reaching out on their social media. If you're still stuck, you can request your transcripts by mail using Form 4506-T or visit a local IRS office in person.

The phone wait times are insane tho. I waited 2.5 hrs last week 😭

Hey, while ur waiting on ID.me to get back to you, you should check out taxr.ai - its this new tool that actually analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on with your refund. Only costs a buck and saves hours of trying to decode everything yourself. https://taxr.ai

Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true ngl

100% legit. Used it last week and it broke down everything line by line. Showed me exactly why my refund was delayed and what to do about it.

Just tried it and OMG where has this been all my life?? So much better than guessing what all these codes mean 🙌

same boat rn. been locked out for 2 weeks. this is ridiculous

Pro tip: make a new ID.me account with a different email. Worked for me when I got locked out.

Pretty sure thats against their TOS but desperate times call for desperate measures ig 👀

Bruh ID.me is the worst fr fr. Why cant they just use regular 2FA like everyone else 🤡

Try reaching out to your local taxpayer advocate service. They sometimes can help bypass the ID.me mess completely.

how do i find my local advocate?

Google 'Taxpayer Advocate Service' + your city/state. They usually have offices in major cities.

I feel your pain! ID.me suspended my account last month and it took forever to get it resolved. Here's what worked for me: 1) Call their phone support (like Oliver mentioned) but call right when they open at 8am EST - much shorter wait times. 2) If you have any family members who are military/veterans, they get priority support which is way faster. 3) As a backup, you can still get transcripts mailed to you using Form 4506-T from the IRS website - takes 5-10 business days but at least you'll have them. Don't give up!

This is so frustrating! I've been dealing with ID.me issues too and it's like they make it impossible on purpose. One thing that helped me was filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau - they actually responded within 48 hours after I did that. Also, if you're really desperate, you can call the IRS directly at 1-800-908-9946 and explain that you can't access your online account. Sometimes they can help you over the phone or send you what you need by mail. Hang in there!

Wait, the BBB complaint actually works? That's genius! I never would have thought of that. Definitely trying this if the phone support doesn't pan out. Thanks for the IRS direct number too - screenshot'd for later 📸

ID.me is such a nightmare! I had the same issue a few months ago. Here's what finally worked for me: Try their live chat feature on their website around 10-11 AM - seems like they have more agents available then. Also, if you have a smartphone, download their mobile app and try to verify through there - sometimes the mobile verification works even when the desktop site doesn't. And definitely keep calling that phone number Oliver mentioned - persistence is key! In the meantime, you can also create an account on the IRS website directly (without ID.me) if you just need to check your refund status using "Where's My Refund" tool. Good luck! 🤞

Thanks for all these tips! The mobile app suggestion is really smart - I've been trying to do everything on desktop. Gonna download it right now and give it a shot. Also didn't know you could bypass ID.me completely for just checking refund status. You're a lifesaver! 🙏

Another option that saved me when ID.me was being impossible - if you have a local IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC), you can make an appointment and get your transcripts printed on the spot. No ID.me needed! Just bring photo ID and proof of address. Use the IRS office locator online to find one near you. I know it's old school but sometimes going in person cuts through all the digital BS. Also, pro tip: if you call ID.me support, ask to speak with a "tier 2" agent - they have more authority to actually fix account issues vs the first level support who can only reset passwords and stuff.

This is super helpful! I had no idea you could ask for a tier 2 agent - I've been stuck talking to people who basically just read scripts at me. And the TAC office idea is brilliant too. Sometimes the old school way really is the best way when all the tech fails us. Definitely going to try both of these approaches. Thanks for sharing what actually worked! 💪

Had this exact same issue a few months back and it was maddening! Here's what finally got me through: First, definitely try that phone number Oliver mentioned but call right at 8am EST when they open - I got through in about 20 minutes vs the 3+ hour waits later in the day. Second, while you're waiting for ID.me to sort itself out, you can still get your transcripts other ways. The IRS2Go mobile app lets you check basic refund status without ID.me, and you can request transcripts by mail using Form 4506-T (just takes about a week). Also, if you're on Twitter/X, try messaging @IDmeSupport - their social media team actually responds way faster than email support. Hang in there, it's frustrating but you'll get through it! 🤞
