ID.me account suspended while trying to access IRS online - help!
I'm so frustrated with the ID.me account process for accessing my IRS online account. I've been trying to set it up to do my taxes and get a refund, but it's been a nightmare. The verification process keeps timing out, and I got temporarily suspended after my internet disconnected during the third code entry. I've tried three times now, and still no luck. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to get back in or reach a live person who can actually help?

Ugh, I feel your pain! π« I went through the same thing last month. The ID.me process is such a headache. Have you tried reaching out to their support team directly? They might be able to help you get unsuspended.

β’I tried contacting their support, but they just told me to do what I've already done. It's so frustrating! π€ Did you have any luck with a specific method?

β’Honestly, it took me like a week of back-and-forth emails before they finally sorted it out. Just keep pestering them and eventually someone competent will help. Hang in there! πͺ

The whole ID.me system is a joke. Why can't the IRS just use a normal login process like every other website? π I've heard so many horror stories about people getting locked out of their accounts.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

β’I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Time is money, ya know? π€·ββοΈ

Listen up, folks. I've been dealing with IRS and ID.me issues for years now, and I've learned a few tricks. Here's what you need to do: β’ First, make sure you're using a stable internet connection. Wired is better than WiFi if possible. β’ Use a desktop computer instead of your phone. The mobile process is even more buggy. β’ Clear your browser cache and cookies before starting. β’ Have all your documents ready BEFORE you start the process. β’ If you get suspended, immediately file a support ticket AND reach out on Twitter. Sometimes their social media team is more responsive. β’ As a last resort, you can request an in-person appointment at your local IRS office for identity verification. Hope this helps someone avoid the headache I went through! π―

I swear the IRS is stuck in the stone age. My grandma could design a better system than this, and she still uses a flip phone! π΅π

Guys, I think I figured out why the system is so slow. It's because they're mining bitcoin on our computers while we wait for those verification codes! π΅οΈββοΈπ» Wake up sheeple! π

Has anyone else noticed that the ID.me verification process seems to work better at certain times of day? I swear I had better luck late at night when there was probably less traffic on their servers.

β’Yo, I think you're onto something! I finally got through at like 2 AM on a Tuesday. Maybe that's the secret? π΅οΈββοΈ

Plot twist: What if the real purpose of ID.me is to test our patience and determination? Maybe it's all just a elaborate government experiment to see how much frustration the average citizen can handle before they snap! π€―

I had the exact same issue a few months ago! The key thing that finally worked for me was using a different browser entirely - I switched from Chrome to Firefox and it went through on the first try. Also, make sure you're not using any ad blockers or privacy extensions during the verification process, as they can interfere with the ID.me system. If you're still having trouble, try doing the verification during off-peak hours (like early morning or late evening) when their servers aren't as overloaded. The system is definitely frustrating, but don't give up! πͺ

β’This is super helpful! I've been using Chrome this whole time and have had ad blockers running. Never thought that might be part of the problem. Definitely going to try Firefox and disable all my extensions. Thanks for the tip about off-peak hours too - makes total sense that their servers would be less crowded then. Really appreciate you sharing what worked for you! π

I went through this exact same nightmare last year! What finally worked for me was calling the ID.me support line early in the morning (around 8 AM EST) and being super persistent. I also had to verify my identity through their video chat option instead of the automated process - it took longer but actually worked. One thing that helped was having all my documents (driver's license, social security card, utility bill) already scanned and ready on my desktop before starting. The suspension usually lifts after 24-48 hours, so don't panic! In the meantime, you might want to try creating a completely new ID.me account with a different email address if you have one. Sometimes starting fresh bypasses whatever glitch caused the original suspension. Hang in there - it's frustrating but you'll get through it! π€

β’This is really solid advice! I never thought about creating a new account with a different email - that's actually genius if the original one is stuck in some kind of system glitch. The video chat verification option sounds promising too, even if it takes longer. Did you have to wait long to get connected with someone for the video chat? I'm definitely going to try the early morning call strategy. Thanks for sharing your experience and giving me hope that this will eventually work out! π

I've been through this exact same frustration with ID.me! After getting suspended twice, I finally got through by doing a few things differently. First, I used an incognito/private browsing window to avoid any cached data issues. Second, I made sure to use a wired ethernet connection instead of WiFi for maximum stability. The most important thing though was patience - I literally sat there for 20 minutes waiting for each verification code instead of refreshing or trying again quickly. It's incredibly annoying to wait that long, but rushing it seems to trigger their security measures. Also, if you haven't already, try reaching out to your local Taxpayer Advocate Service office - they can sometimes help navigate these technical issues with the IRS systems. The whole process is broken and shouldn't be this difficult, but you're not alone in dealing with this mess! π€

β’This is incredibly helpful advice! The incognito browsing tip is brilliant - I never thought about cached data potentially causing issues. I'm definitely going to try the wired connection approach too since my WiFi has been a bit spotty lately. The 20-minute wait time sounds brutal, but if that's what it takes to avoid triggering their security system, I'll give it a shot. I had no idea about the Taxpayer Advocate Service - that could be a real lifesaver if all else fails. Thanks so much for taking the time to share these detailed tips. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this nightmare! π

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! π© Just got suspended yesterday after my third attempt. What's really frustrating is that the error messages are so vague - they don't tell you what went wrong or how long you have to wait. I've read through all the advice here and it's super helpful, especially the tips about using a wired connection and trying different browsers. Has anyone had luck with the IRS's alternative verification methods? I heard you can sometimes bypass ID.me entirely by mailing in forms, but I'm not sure if that's still an option for online account access. This whole system feels like it was designed to keep people OUT of their accounts rather than help them get in! π€¦ββοΈ

β’I feel your pain! π« The vague error messages are the worst part - it's like they're deliberately trying to be unhelpful. From what I've experienced, the mail-in forms are still an option for some things, but unfortunately not for setting up online account access. You pretty much have to go through ID.me for that. The good news is that most people here seem to eventually get through using the tips that have been shared. I'd definitely recommend trying the incognito browser + wired connection combo that @abfd5713521c mentioned, plus waiting during off-peak hours. The 24-48 hour suspension period should lift soon, so hang in there! This system really is designed terribly, but you'll get through it eventually. πͺ

I've been battling ID.me for weeks now and finally found a combination that worked! After reading through all the great advice here, I tried using Firefox in incognito mode with a wired connection at around 6 AM on a weekday. The key was being super patient - I literally set a timer for 25 minutes between each step and didn't touch anything until it was done. I also turned off ALL browser extensions, even the ones I thought were harmless. The whole process took about 2 hours, but I finally got verified! One more tip: if you have a smartphone, try using that for the selfie verification instead of your computer's webcam - the mobile camera seemed to work better for the facial recognition part. Don't give up, everyone! This system is absolutely broken but persistence pays off eventually. π

β’Wow, congratulations on finally getting through! π Your persistence really paid off. The 25-minute timer trick is genius - I never would have thought to be THAT patient, but it makes total sense given how finicky their system is. I'm definitely going to try the smartphone camera tip too since my laptop's webcam is pretty old and probably not the best quality. Thanks for sharing your success story and all the specific details about what worked. It gives me hope that I'll eventually get through this mess too! Going to try your exact method tomorrow morning. π€
