EDD Disqualified Me Without Explanation - How to Clear Up and Get Benefits?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting my unemployment benefits. I submitted the questionnaire a while back but haven't heard anything. Now I'm disqualified and I don't know why. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to clear things up and get my benefits?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is such a mess rn. Have you tried calling them? It's a nightmare to get through, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

•I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. It's so frustrating! 😤

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59am. Sometimes you can get through before the lines get jammed.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•20 bucks tho? That's steep when ur already broke from no benefits 😭

•I get it, but for me it was worth it to finally get my issue resolved. Cheaper than losing weeks of benefits.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your UI Online account for any pending tasks or messages. Sometimes they send important info there. 2. If you can't find anything, you NEED to talk to a rep. Keep calling or try that service someone mentioned above. 3. When you get through, ask for a detailed explanation of why you were disqualified. Take notes! 4. If it's a mistake, ask them how to appeal. There's usually a form you can fill out. 5. If it's not a mistake, find out what you need to do to become eligible again. 6. Document EVERYTHING. Names, dates, what was said. It'll help if you need to escalate later. Don't give up! The system is a maze but you can navigate it with persistence. Good luck!

Plot twist: the EDD is actually run by a bunch of hamsters on wheels. That's why everything takes so long 🐹🐹🐹

•Hey now, don't insult hamsters like that. They'd probably do a better job 😂

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help push things through with EDD.

•I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my assembly member is?

•Just google '[your city] assembly member'. Most have forms on their websites for constituent services. Worth a shot!

unpopular opinion: maybe try looking for a job instead of relying on benefits? plenty of places are hiring rn

•I am looking for work, but I'm still entitled to benefits while I search. Thanks for your input though.

Anyone else notice how the EDD website always seems to be 'under maintenance' when you actually need to use it? 🤔

This happened to me too! Check if you have any mail from EDD - sometimes they send disqualification notices by regular mail and it's easy to miss. Also, when you do get through to someone (and you will eventually!), ask them to pull up your entire case history. Sometimes there are system glitches that auto-disqualify people for weird reasons. I had to appeal mine and it took forever but I eventually got all my back pay. Don't let them wear you down - you've got this! 💪
