EDD Certification Issues: Need Help Answering Questions & Submitting
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my unemployment claim. Has anyone else had issues certifying for benefits lately? I'm not sure if I'm answering the questions correctly or if there's a problem with submitting my certification. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I feel you. The certification process can be such a headache sometimes. What specific questions are you struggling with? I might be able to help if you give more details.

ā¢Thanks for responding! I'm mainly confused about reporting part-time work. Like, do I report gross or net income? And what if I worked but haven't been paid yet?

ā¢Ah, gotcha. Always report your gross income (before taxes). And yeah, you should report work when you do it, not when you get paid. It's confusing af but that's how they want it š

ā¢Oh man, that makes so much more sense now. Thanks for clearing that up! š

The EDD website is a joke. Half the time it crashes when I try to certify. Have you tried using their mobile app instead? It's slightly less terrible.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

ā¢I was skeptical at first too, but I can confirm it's legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

ā¢$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken š¤

ā¢I get it, but think about how much time you waste trying to get through. For me, time is money, and this saved me a ton of headaches.

Pro tip: Keep a detailed log of all your work search activities. It'll save you a ton of hassle if they ever audit your claim. I learned this the hard way š

ā¢This! šÆ I use a spreadsheet to track everything. Date, company, position, application method, follow-ups. It's a lifesaver.

Has anyone else noticed that the questions seem to change slightly every few months? It's like they're trying to trip us up or something. š¤

ā¢It's probably to catch people who are just clicking through without reading. Still annoying tho

Friendly reminder: Always double-check your answers before submitting! I once accidentally said I wasn't available for work (clicked the wrong box) and my benefits got held up for weeks. Don't be like me lol

Hey OP, have you checked if there are any new requirements or changes to the certification process? Sometimes they update things and don't make it super obvious. Might be worth looking into.

ā¢Good point! I'll def take a look. Do you know where I can find the most up-to-date info?

ā¢The EDD website usually has updates in their 'News' section. Also, follow their social media accounts if you have them. They sometimes post important stuff there too.

I swear, dealing with unemployment is a full-time job in itself. Hang in there, OP. We're all in the same sinking boat š¢

ā¢Ain't that the truth! š Sometimes I think it'd be easier to just find a job than deal with all this bureaucracy

Here's a comprehensive guide to certifying for benefits that might help: ⢠Always certify on time, even if you have issues. You can always correct later. ⢠Report ALL income, including cash jobs or gig work. ⢠Be honest about your work search efforts. It's better to report less than lie. ⢠If you're not sure about a question, call EDD or check their FAQ before answering. ⢠Save a copy of your certification (screenshot or print) for your records. ⢠If you make a mistake, contact EDD immediately to correct it. ⢠Remember, you must be able and available for work to receive benefits. ⢠If your claim is pending for more than 2 weeks, try to contact EDD. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

@Reina Salazar I've been through this exact same frustration! One thing that really helped me was creating a simple checklist before I start certifying each time. I write down: 1. All work I did (even if unpaid yet) with gross amounts 2. Any job applications or interviews from the past 2 weeks 3. Double-check I'm marking "yes" for able/available to work Also, if the website is being glitchy, try clearing your browser cache or switching to incognito mode. Sometimes that fixes the submission issues. The mobile app can be hit or miss, but it's worth trying as a backup. Don't stress too much - we've all made mistakes with these forms. The important thing is being honest and reaching out (like you're doing now) when you're unsure. You've got this! šŖ
