Why didn't I get this week's NY unemployment payment after claiming?
I claimed my benefits on Sunday like usual, but no payment has shown up this week. It's now Wednesday and nothing! The payment history section doesn't even show it as processing. I know benefits are supposed to end next week, but I should still get this week's money, right? I've been checking my account multiple times a day and nothing's changed. Tried calling the unemployment office numerous times but keep getting a busy signal and then disconnected. Haven't received any emails about ID verification issues or anything that would explain the delay. Anyone else experiencing payment delays this week? Is this happening because the benefits are ending soon?

Same thing happening to me. Claimed on sunday and its now almost end of the week with nothing in my account. Getting really stressed because my rent is due on the 1st and I was counting on this money.

•Have you tried calling? I've been trying all day with no luck. The automated system just hangs up on me 😤

•Yup tried calling like 30 times already. Either busy signal or it just disconnects me after the menu options. System is a complete joke.

After days of getting disconnected, I finally got through to a rep yesterday using this service called Claimyr. Basically they wait on hold for you and call when an agent picks up. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast - wouldn't have gotten paid otherwise. Check it out: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•does this actually work? sounds too good to be true tbh

•Yeah it actually does! I was surprised too. I'd been trying to call for over a week with no luck. They connected me within a couple hours and the agent fixed my payment issue right away.

•sounds like one of those scammy services that just takes your money 🙄

•Not at all! They literally just handle the calling/waiting part, then connect you directly with the unemployment office. The money I spent was worth it considering I got my benefits released.

•wait how much did it cost you? seems weird to pay money when ur already not getting ur benefits

•It was worth every penny considering I was about to miss my car payment. The time and stress it saved me was the real value - plus I actually got my benefits released same day once I talked to someone.

I had this happen last month. It turned out there was a "break in claim" flag on my account because I earned some part-time income and reported it. Had to wait for someone to manually review it. Took about 5 days to clear up.

This is happening to a lot of ppl right now because the system is overwhelmed with the benefits ending. They're probably reviewing claims extra carefully to catch any issues before the program ends. I'd keep trying to call, but be prepared to wait until next week.

•That makes sense, but it's still frustrating! I have bills due and was counting on that money. Do you think we'll still get the payments eventually?

•Yea you'll def still get paid as long as you're eligible. I had a similar delay a few months back and got a double payment the following week. Just keep checking ur payment history daily.

Have u checked if there's any action items in ur account? Sometimes they need additional info but don't send emails about it. Log in and check the messages section.

•Just checked again and don't see anything in the messages section. No action items or alerts showing up either. It's like the claim just disappeared into thin air 🤷♀️

The ny unemployment system is such garbage. I went through something similar last year and it was a NIGHTMARE. The only thing that worked was getting through to an actual human on the phone who fixed it in like 5 minutes. But getting to that human took WEEKS of calling.

•fr tho 💯 The whole system is designed to be frustrating so people give up. Classic government efficiency lmao

•Yupp, I think they deliberately make it hard to talk to someone hoping ppl will just give up and not get their benefits

Looking at the NY DOL Twitter, there's a lot of people reporting payment delays this week. Might be a system-wide issue they're not communicating about. Classic NYSDOL communication 🙄

I've been dealing with the ny unemployment system for what feels like forever now, and here's what I've learned that might help you: First, don't panic. Payment delays happen much more often than they should. With benefits ending next week, their systems are probably under extra scrutiny/review right now. Here are some steps you can take: 1. Keep checking your payment history section multiple times per day. Sometimes it updates without notification. 2. Look for any "outstanding issues" on your account or messages requiring action. 3. If you absolutely need to talk to someone (which sounds like you do), regular calling almost never works anymore. After countless hours wasted on hold, I finally used claimyr.com which got me through to an agent. They basically wait on hold for you and call when a real person picks up. Worth every penny when my benefits were stuck. 4. Check if your bank info is still correct in the system. Sometimes a tiny change can trigger a review. 5. Document everything - dates you certified, confirmation numbers, etc. You'll need this if you have to escalate. The good news is that if you're eligible, you WILL get paid eventually. The bad news is that "eventually" can sometimes take weeks without intervention. Getting a human on the phone is still the fastest solution. Hope this helps!

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I'll definitely check for outstanding issues again. Did you have success with that Claimyr service? I'm desperate at this point.

•Yes! Claimyr was the only way I finally got through after two weeks of failed calls. The agent was able to see exactly why my payment was held up (it was some random flag on my account) and fixed it while I was on the phone. Payment came through the next day.

Check ur email spam folder. I missed an important message about ID verification because it went to spam. They give u like 7 days to respond or they hold ur payments.

•Just checked all my spam and trash folders but found nothing from unemployment. I wonder if they tried to send something that never came through??

bruh I swear this happens EVERY time benefits are about to end or there's a program change. the whole system goes haywire. happened with the $600 extra, happened with the $300 extra, and now with regular benefits ending. they'll blame it on "high volume" or some BS 🤦♂️

•facts!! its like they purposely create these problems at the end of programs. makes me think they trying to save money by delaying everyone's last payments hoping people won't fight for it

•100% this. I bet if we all compared notes we'd find they're holding back thousands of final payments. My cousin had the exact same issue with his last payment too.

Try contacting your state representative! I had a similar issue a couple months ago and was getting nowhere with ny unemployment directly. Called my assembly member's office and they have people who specifically handle unemployment issues. They resolved it in 2 days.

sometimes this happens when theres a holiday - were there any holidays this week that might have delayed processing?

StarSeeker
•Not that I'm aware of. It's just a regular week as far as I know. And I've never had this problem before in the past year of claiming benefits.

•Labor Day is coming up but that shouldn't affect this week's payment. definitely sounds like a system issue not a holiday thing

the EXACT same thing is happening to me and at least 5 other people i know!!! its gotta be a system-wide issue. gonna try to reach out on twitter since they sometimes respond there faster than phone

Sometimes the payment shows as pending in your bank account before it shows as processed in the unemployment system. Have you checked with your bank?

StarSeeker
•Yes, checked with my bank and nothing pending there either. I get direct deposit and usually see the pending deposit on Tuesdays, but nothing this week.

If ur benefits are about to expire, they might be doing an "end of benefits review" on ur account. happened to me last time. they basically verify everything one last time. super annoying but they don't tell u about it
