NY unemployment payment delayed - certified but money not showing up?
I've been getting my unemployment like clockwork for months but this week something weird happened. I certified on Sunday like I always do and my payment should have hit my account this morning (Wednesday). I checked my payment history and nothing has been released yet. The weird thing is my benefit year doesn't end until May 2023, so that's not the issue. I double-checked and made sure I answered all questions correctly during certification. Anyone else having delayed payments this week? Is the system glitching again? Should I try calling or just wait another day?

Same thing just happened to me! I certified Sunday and usually get paid Tuesday but nothing yet. And my benefit year is good until June. No messages or emails from them either. The NY unemployment system is such a mess sometimes.

•Have you tried logging into the portal to see if there's any messages? I checked mine like 5 times today and nothing shows up explaining the delay.

•Yep, checked my inbox and nothing. Even tried the automated phone system and it just says my claim is in good standing. So frustrating!

•banks sometimes hold deposits for random security checks. might be worth calling your bank too just to make sure

After struggling with delays for weeks, I finally found a way to get through to an actual human at NY unemployment! Used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me a callback from an agent within a couple hours. Talking to the agent directly got my payments released the same day. Best decision I made after weeks of stress! Check out their explainer video: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•sounds too good to be true... does this actually work? I've spent days trying to get through on the phone 😫

•100% worked for me. They basically stay on hold for you and then call you when they get a human. My issue was fixed in one call after weeks of frustration. Totally worth every penny considering how much backpay I was owed!

•wait so they just call for you? why can't we just keep calling ourselves?

•Because who has 4+ hours to sit on hold? They have some system that dials repeatedly to get in queue and then calls YOU when there's a real person. I was skeptical too but it saved me so much headache.

•another magical solution that probably doesn't work 🙄 we've all tried everything

•Look, I was in the same boat thinking nothing would help. But this actually did. They don't fix your claim - they just get you connected to someone who can. Check the YouTube video if you're curious: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This happened last month too - there was some system maintenance they were doing and payments were delayed by 2-3 days for a bunch of people. They never announce these things properly. Just wait till Friday and it'll probably show up.

•Good idea, but I checked and nothing's there yet. My bank usually shows pending deposits a day before they post too.

NYS unemployment has been having mad issues lately. My roommate had the same problem 2 weeks ago. Turns out they randomly flagged his account for an ID check. He had to upload his drivers license and SSN card then it got released 3 days later. Check if you got any messages about identity verification.

•How would I know if I'm flagged? I don't see any messages or alerts in my account.

•Sometimes they dont even tell you 🤡 The system is trash. You gotta call to find out. Good luck getting through tho lol

I've been on unemployment in NY for the past 8 months, and I've learned a LOT about how the system works (and doesn't work). Here's what might be happening with your delayed payment: 1. System delays - They sometimes batch process claims and there can be 1-3 day delays randomly 2. Random verification flags - The system sometimes auto-flags accounts for identity verification, work search verification, or earnings verification 3. Bank processing delays - Some banks hold UI payments longer than regular deposits 4. Quarterly review delays - At the end of each quarter they review some claims which can pause payments 5. Technical glitches - Their system is ancient and breaks constantly The MOST EFFECTIVE solution is getting a live agent on the phone who can see what's actually happening with your claim. After hours of frustration trying to get through, I discovered claimyr.com - they get you a callback from an actual agent (they basically wait on hold so you don't have to). This fixed my delayed payment issue in one call. Don't wait too long - if there's an issue with your claim, it won't resolve itself and could affect future payments too.

•this is really helpful, thanks! how long did your payment delay last before you called?

•Mine was delayed for almost 2 weeks before I finally got through to someone! Don't wait that long - the backlog just gets worse. And yes, they eventually backpaid everything, but the stress wasn't worth it.

•I used claimyr too when they randomly stopped my payments for "not looking for work" even though I was submitting job search proof every week. Worth every penny to get that straightened out fast!

•Does using claimyr mean you're guaranteed to get your payment issue fixed though?

•No guarantees in life except death and taxes 😂 But getting a human on the phone is the only way to find out what's actually wrong and fix it. The website never shows the real issues.

Somtimes the DOL runs batch processes that delay paymnets. But also could be ur certification had an error. Did u report any income or answer any questions differently than usual?

Gael Robinson
•No, answered everything exactly the same as always. No income to report, said yes to looking for work, etc.

I bet its because of the President's Day holiday on Monday. Bank processing got pushed back a day. That's hapened to me on other holidays

•That doesnt make sense cause the holiday would've affected last week not this week. OP certified on sunday which was after presidents day

Just fyi they sometimes do random fraud checks and freeze payments without telling you. 🙃 Happened to me last month, no notification, just suddenly no money. Had to call like 50 times to get someone on the phone who told me they needed to verify my identity AGAIN even though I'd already done it 3 months earlier.

I work in HR and deal with former employees' unemployment issues all the time. NY's system has been SUPER delayed lately because they're supposedly upgrading some backend stuff. Several of our former employees have had similar delays in the past month. The issue is rarely anything serious - just bureaucratic slowdowns. But if you need the money urgently, you should definitely try to reach a live agent rather than waiting.

•Thanks for the insider info! Do you know how long the delays typically last?

•From what I've seen, usually 3-5 business days max unless there's a specific issue with the claim. But again, if you need the money now, don't just wait.

I swear NY unemployment is run on a commodore 64 computer in someone's basement 🤣 The whole system falls apart if someone sneezes too close to the server.

•LMAO this is so accurate! And that basement probably floods every time it rains 😂

•Hey now, don't insult the Commodore 64 like that! At least it was reliable. This is more like an Etch-A-Sketch level operation 🤣

sometimes if u answer anything different during certification, it puts u in manual review. did u try clicking the "payment history" link? sometimes that shows more info than the homepage

dude the EXACT same thing happend to me last month. after trying to call for 3 days straight and never getting through i found this service claimyr.com that got me a callback from unemployment. turns out they had randomly selected my account for a "quarterly review" which paused payments. agent fixed it right away once i actually got to talk to someone.

•is claimyr actually legit? i keep seeing people talk about it

Melina Haruko
•totally legit. they just call DOL for you and stay on hold so you don't have to, then connect you when they get a human. took like 90 mins to get a callback when i used it

•What's a quarterly review? Is that something they do to everyone?

•from what the agent told me they randomly select accounts to verify eligibility every quarter. but they're supposed to notify you 🙄 typical DOL failing at basic communication

did u get an email from them? sometimes they send important notices to ur email and if u don't respond they hold payment

Have you moved recently or changed your address? Sometimes a change in personal info triggers their fraud detection system.

This happened to me!!! There was an issue with my work search activities they needed to verify. Had to upload proof of job applications. Once I did that and spoke to someone it was fixed. But I never would have known without calling because their website showed NOTHING wrong with my claim.

•I tried for a week straight with no luck, then used claimyr.com which got me a callback within a few hours. Worth it considering how much money was being held up.

I'm so sick of NY unemployment's terrible tech. How can a state with this much tax revenue have such a pathetic system? We deserve better than this garbage. Other states have actual functioning websites and clear communication!
