EDD payment stuck on pending after certifying - never happened before

I'm freaking out a little bit. I certified for my UI benefits on Sunday night around 9pm like I always do, but it's now Wednesday and my payment is still showing as 'pending' in the system. I've been on unemployment for about 2 months now after the healthcare facility I worked at downsized, and this is the first time I've had any payment delays. Usually the money hits my Money Network card by Tuesday morning at the latest. I double checked my answers on the certification questions and I'm sure I didn't make any mistakes - I reported no income and confirmed I was looking for work with my 3 job contact activities. Has the system been glitchy this week? Anyone else experiencing delays with their January payments? I really need this money to cover my rent due on the 1st!

im having the EXACT same issue!!! certified sunday night and still showing pending. this happened to me once before and it turned out they randomly flagged my account for an eligibility interview, but i never got any notification until i finally got through to someone on the phone. its ridiculous how they just stop paying with NO explanation!!

Oh no, that's what I was afraid of! Did you have to wait a long time for the interview? My rent is due in less than 2 weeks...

Happening to me too. Been on UI since November and this is the first hiccup. I think there might be a system issue this week?

This is actually pretty common in January. EDD often reviews claims at the beginning of the year, which can cause temporary payment delays. If your claim has been previously approved and you haven't had any changes in your situation, it should resolve itself within 7-10 days. However, if you're concerned about missing rent, I'd recommend calling EDD directly to check if there are any issues with your claim that need addressing. They can see if you've been flagged for an eligibility interview or if there's another reason for the pending status.

Thank you! I didn't know about the January reviews. I'll try calling them tomorrow morning.

I had the same problem last month with the 'too many callers' message for days. I ended up using this service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days. It's at claimyr.com and there's a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me so much time and frustration. My payment was stuck because they needed to verify my job search activities, but the rep fixed it right away once I got through.

This is happening because EDD implemented their quarterly review system this week. Many claims get temporarily paused for automated review. Here's what you need to know: 1. If your UI claim crosses a quarter (Oct-Dec to Jan-Mar), the system often flags for review 2. If you've been on UI for exactly 2 months as you mentioned, they're likely verifying your continued eligibility 3. The system is checking if you have any unreported wages from previous employers About 80% of these reviews auto-resolve within 7 days with no action needed. If it doesn't clear by Monday, definitely call EDD. Make sure you have your ID number, last employer info, and certification dates ready before calling.

Anybody else notice this happens more on holiday weeks? My brother-in-law who works for the state (not EDD) says they're always short-staffed in January because people take vacation after the holidays. Just a thought.

I had a similar issue in November where my payment got stuck in pending for almost 2 weeks. When I finally reached EDD, they said it was because I had answered a certification question differently than before (I accidentally said I was unavailable for work on one day because I had a doctor's appointment). The rep was able to fix it immediately once I explained. Definitely worth calling if yours doesn't update by Friday.

UPDATE: You guys were right! Just checked my UI Online and it switched from pending to paid this morning. Should hit my card tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance - I was really panicking there for a minute!
