NY unemployment payment missing after certifying for 09/12/2023 - Payment history stops at 09/06 despite having $11,780 remaining benefits
I just logged into my ny unemployment account to check my payments and something weird is happening. My screen shows that I certified for benefits for the week ending 09/12/2023, but the payment hasn't been released yet. The last payment showing on my account is from 09/06/2023 for the week ending 09/05/2023. My Benefit Year Ending Date is 04/17/2024 with a Weekly Benefit Amount of $217 and I still have about $11,780 left in my Maximum Amount Payable. I have 82 Effective Days Remaining. When I log in to uihp2.labor.ny.gov/UBCI, I can see my Latest Transaction(s) as of today, and it clearly shows "You last certified for benefits for the week ending 09/12/2023" but then only shows "Your payment for the week ending 09/05/2023 was released on 09/06/2023." There's this explanation on my account about how payments work: "Weekly payments showing '0' under the 'Effective Days' column, and Debit Card or Direct Deposit under the 'Type' column, are the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payments." It also says something about effective days: "Each effective day represents one-fourth of your total weekly benefit rate. There is a maximum of 4 effective days each week, and you must qualify for all 4 effective days in order to receive your total weekly benefit rate. For each day in the week that you are not eligible to receive benefits, you will receive one less effective day, which is equivalent to one fourth of your weekly benefit rate." I've been certifying on time every week just like normal and haven't changed anything. Has anyone else had this problem where they certified but the payment just doesn't show up in the system? Do I need to call them or will it fix itself? This has never happened before and I really need this money for rent next week.

Yeah, don't freak out yet. Sometimes there are random delays in the system. I've had payments take an extra 3-4 days to process for no reason. Check again tomorrow morning - if it's still not showing up as released then you should probably call them. But I bet it will sort itself out.

After spending HOURS trying to get through to unemployment on the phone with no luck, I tried this service called Claimyr. It was amazing - they called the unemployment line for me and when they got through to a live agent, they connected the call to my phone. Talking to an agent got my missing payment processed right away and the money was in my account the next day. Best decision I ever made after wasting my whole day trying to call myself! Check out this video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Is this for real or some kind of scam? I'm desperate to talk to someone but also paranoid about getting ripped off 🤔

Not a scam at all! I was skeptical too but nothing else was working. They don't need any of your personal info - they just call and wait on hold, then connect you when a real person answers. claimyr.com

I tried this last month when my claim was stuck in pending for 3 weeks. Got through to someone in like 2 hours after trying to call myself for days. Totally worth it!

This EXACT thing happened to me last month. Turns out they randomly flagged my account for a fraud review and that's why the payment was held up. Had to upload my ID documents again even though I'd already done it before. Took about 10 days to resolve once I got someone on the phone. The NY unemployment system is such a joke 🤡

Oh no, that sounds awful! Did you get any kind of notification that they were reviewing your account? I haven't gotten any emails or messages.

Nope, no notification at all. That's what made it so frustrating. I only found out when I finally reached someone. Check your message inbox on the portal too, sometimes they send messages there instead of email.

the whole system is designed to make us give up. they make it impossible to reach anyone and hope we just stop trying to get OUR MONEY that we're entitled to. its criminal tbh

Did u do anything different when certifying? Like report any income, say you weren't available for work, or anything like that? Sometimes even clicking the wrong button can trigger a hold on your payment while they review it. Also check if there are any messages in your online inbox - sometimes they send messages about issues there but don't email you about them.

No, I certified exactly the same way I always do. I was available for work, looking for work, didn't work any hours, etc. And there's nothing in my inbox either... it's like the payment just disappeared into thin air

Ok here's what you need to do. This happened to me a few months ago and I figured out how to fix it. First, take screenshots of everything - your certification history, payment history, etc. You'll need these if you have to call. Second, check if there are any questionnaires in your account you need to complete. Sometimes they add these without notifying you. Third, if nothing shows up by tomorrow, you NEED to call them. The issue won't resolve itself. The best time to call is right when they open at 8:00am or between 4:30-5:00pm when call volume drops. If you can't get through (which is likely), try using claimyr.com - it's a service that calls for you and connects you when they get an agent. I was skeptical but it worked when I was desperate. Also, check your bank account directly - sometimes the payment posts to your bank even when it's not showing in the unemployment system. Don't wait on this. The longer payment issues go unresolved, the harder they can be to fix. Good luck!

This is really good advice. I'd add that you should also check if there's a holiday that might have delayed processing. Labor Day just passed and sometimes that messes with their payment schedule.

Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I've already taken screenshots and checked for questionnaires (none there). My bank account doesn't show any pending deposits either. Looks like I'll have to call them tomorrow morning.

No problem! Let us know how it goes. And seriously, if you can't get through by calling yourself, just use the Claimyr service. It saved me like 8 hours of redial hell.

Same thing just happened to me! They're probably doing some kind of system update or maintenance that's messing with everyone's accounts. Give it a few days before panicking.

tbh youre looking at the wrong dates. your screenshot says you certified for 8/29/2021 but were paid for 8/22/2021 on 8/23/2021. so this is actually normal. youll get paid for 8/29 on 8/30 or 8/31 probably

The dates in the screenshot are old (from 2021) - I just used it as an example of what my account page looks like. My current certification was for last week (September 2023) and that payment is missing.

I don't mean to scare you, but sometimes when payments suddenly stop showing up, it's because they're investigating your claim for some reason. Did you start a new job or have any income changes recently? Any address changes or anything that might trigger their system?

No changes at all! That's what's so confusing. I've been on unemployment for about 7 months now with zero issues until this week.

Contact your state representative!!! Seriously, this works. I had a similar issue where my payments stopped for no reason. Called and emailed for weeks with no luck. Finally contacted my state assembly member's office and they have special liaisons who can escalate unemployment issues. Had my problem fixed within 48 hours after that.

This is the best advice. The unemployment office responds way faster when a politician's office contacts them. I've done this twice and it worked both times.

100% facts. NY unemployment will ignore regular people all day but when an assembly member's office calls them they suddenly find time to fix your issue 🙄

Have you tried logging out completely and logging back in? I know it sounds stupid but sometimes their system glitches and doesn't display the most recent info until you do a fresh login.

Yeah I've tried that multiple times, even on different devices. Still showing the same thing 😕

I always take screenshots of my certifications every single week just for this exact reason. That way I have proof if they try to claim I didn't certify. Have you been doing that?

No 😩 I never thought I'd need to. Definitely starting now though!

Check your bank account directly. Sometimes my payments don't show up in the unemployment portal but they still hit my bank account on time. The website is notoriously glitchy.

This happened to me once when I answered a question slightly different during certification without realizing it. I think I accidentally clicked that I refused work or something (even though I didn't). Had to call and have them manually override it. Their system is sooooo sensitive to any tiny change.

CALL THEM NOW!!! Don't wait! The longer you let it go the harder it is to fix. And when you do call, be super nice to the agent - they deal with angry people all day and will help you faster if you're pleasant.

facts 💯 I used to work in a call center and we definitely helped the nice people first and put the screamy ones on extra hold lmao

nysdol is the absolute WORST. they do this all the time - randomly stop payments with zero explanation or notification. it's like they're trying to see how many people will just give up fighting for their money. the whole system is designed to be as frustrating as possible.

It's probably because of Labor Day. Holidays often mess up their processing schedule even though they never admit it. I bet it posts by Friday.
