NY unemployment: 28 effective days remaining but can't certify after 9/12/2021 - claim still active until March 2022
I still have 28 effective days remaining on my account but there's no option to certify my claim anymore. My benefit year ending date shows as March 6, 2022 with a weekly benefit amount of $504.00. My maximum payable is $13,104.00. I've been working throughout most of 2020 and only started collecting unemployment in March 2021. When I log in to uihp2.labor.ny.gov, I can see my payment history and that I last certified for benefits for the week ending 09/12/2021, but now the certification option has disappeared completely. According to my official record of benefit payment history, my current claim shows: - Start/Effective Date: 03/01/2021 - Benefit Year Ending Date: 03/06/2022 - Weekly Benefit Amount: $504.00 - Maximum Amount Payable: $13,104.00 - Effective Days Remaining: 28 I checked the NY Department of Labor website around September 1, 2021 at 2:13 pm, and everything looked normal. It shows my latest transaction as of 09/12/2021, confirming that I last certified for benefits for the week ending that date. But when I tried to certify again, the option is gone. Do I need to file a new claim even though my benefit year hasn't ended yet and I still have 28 remaining days? The system is showing my claim is still active but won't let me certify! Anyone else experiencing this issue with the NY Department of Labor unemployment system?

When did ur BYE date pass? The system sometimes glitches after your BYE date even if you have days left. You might have to submit a new application.

My BYE date is April 15, 2022, so it hasn't passed yet. That's why I'm confused why I can't certify anymore.

Oh that's weird then. Definitely sounds like a system glitch. Have you tried using a different browser or the mobile app? Sometimes that works.

Tried both chrome and safari, same issue. Haven't tried the mobile app tho, will give that a shot. Thanks!

After trying to call for DAYS with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a real person at ny unemployment in like 30 mins. Talking to the agent fixed my certification issues right away. Best money i ever spent to get my benefits flowing again! Check out their explainer vid: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

another miracle solution? 🙄 does this actually work or is it another scam?

Not a scam at all. I was skeptical too but after being on hold for literally 7+ hours over 3 days I was desperate. The service just automates the calling and holds your place in line. When an agent picks up, they connect you. Saved me days of frustration.

They just call repeatedly using their system and wait on hold for you. When a human finally answers, they connect you. I was connected in about 45 mins when I had been trying to call for a week with no luck.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago! The certification button just disappeared. It turned out that they put a hold on my account because they needed to verify my identity again. I never got any notification about it. Had to call and it took FOREVER to get through, but they removed the hold.

This happens when there's a flag on your account. It could be: 1. Identity verification needed 2. They think you worked and didn't report earnings 3. You answered something incorrectly on your last certification 4. They're conducting a random audit Unfortunately, the ONLY way to resolve it is to speak with a rep directly. You can try calling right when they open at 8am or use claimyr.com which is what finally worked for me after two weeks of failed calling. When you get through, ask them to check if there are any "outstanding issues" on your account. They can usually clear them while you're on the phone and reactivate your ability to certify immediately. Also make sure to ask for BACKPAY for any weeks you couldn't certify because of their system error!

Thanks for the detailed info! I think you're right about there being a flag. I did work part-time for one week during my last certification period but I reported those earnings. Maybe that triggered something.

Yep that can definitely trigger it! Especially if the employer reported different hours than what you certified. Good luck!

Their whole system is a disaster rn. I know ppl who still haven't gotten $ from months ago. Some ppl got random cutoffs, others got overpayment notices for no reason. The certification button sometimes disappears for a day or two and comes back. Check again tomorrow?

It's been like this for over a week now, so I don't think it's coming back on its own 😩

I had this EXACT issue. Called 57 times and finally got through. Turns out they needed to verify my ID again for some reason. They never sent any notification about it. Once I talked to someone they fixed it and I could certify again. So frustrating.

Check if there's a message in your account inbox. Sometimes they require additional info but the notification doesn't show up anywhere except in that message center.

Just checked - nothing in the inbox. It's completely empty 🤷♂️

My theory: the regular UI benefit may have ended even though u have effective days left. It's all super confusing with all the program changes. You must call to know for sure. 😡

Are you sure you're not trying to certify on the wrong day? Sounds dumb but I made that mistake once. You can only certify Sunday-Friday for the PREVIOUS week.

Definitely not that - I've been certifying on Sundays like clockwork for months. The button is completely gone from my dashboard now.

Ok so here's what happened to me. The same thing - had days left but couldn't certify. Called (took FOREVER) and found out that even though my benefit year hadn't ended, because I had worked during my claim period (like you said you did), I needed to file a new claim! The rep helped me file a new claim while on the phone and got my certification button back. You DEFINITELY need to speak with someone.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I did work some weeks during my claim period. Thanks for sharing your experience!

They might have put you on a quarterly review. Happens after 3 months sometimes, especially if you worked during your claim period. You absolutely need to call them - no way around it.

DEFINITELY call! A friend of mine lost 4 weeks of benefits because they didn't call right away when their certification button disappeared. Don't wait!

I've been dealing with NY unemployment for 18 months now and the system is just broken. Sometimes the certification option disappears randomly and reappears a day later. Sometimes it means there's a hold. Sometimes it means you need to call. There's literally no way to know without talking to someone. When you finally get through, make sure they check ALL possible issues and don't just give you a quick answer.
