NY unemployment showing $0.00 benefit amount since August 2023, claim shows 2021-2022 dates with "continuing to work on application" message
I filed for unemployment in August 2023 after my contract job ended unexpectedly. Just checked my payment history today and found something strange on the Official Record of Benefit Payment History page on uihp2.labor.ny.gov. Here's what I'm seeing for my Current Claim: Start/Effective Date: 09/06/2021 Benefit Year Ending Date: 09/13/2022 Weekly Benefit Amount: $0.00 Maximum Amount Payable: $0.00 Effective Days Remaining: 104 Amount you owe for overpaid benefits: $0.00 Amount you owe for penalties: $0.00 Total amount you owe: $0.00 Under "Latest Transaction(s) as of 09/14/2021," it says: "We are continuing to work on your application and are determining the amount of benefits you will receive. You may get a call from us if we require further information. You will receive a status update as your application progresses through the system." There's also a note saying: "Weekly payments for $600 showing "0" under the "Effective Days" column, and Debit Card or Direct Deposit under the "Type" column, are the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)" Its been over three weeks since I applied! The weird part is the benefit year ending date shows September 2022, so it seems like they accepted my claim, but why would everything be showing zeroes? No pending payments, nothing. My account isn't showing any overpayments either. Has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to call them or just wait it out? I'm getting worried because I really need this money soon.

Yep, had the exact same thing last month. Zeroes everywhere and that stupid message about them 'continuing to work on my application.' I thought it would sort itself out but it never did. Turns out there was some issue with my identity verification. After struggling to get thru on the phones for like 2 weeks I finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected with an actual agent in like 20 min. The agent fixed everything on the spot and my payments started coming in the next day. Best money I've ever spent after 3 weeks of stressing about bills.

•100% real. I was desperate after calling for 2 weeks straight. Check out this video of how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•another day another scam on this sub... sure buddy 🙄

•Not a scam at all. They just do the calling and waiting on hold for you, then connect you when there's a real person. You still talk to the actual NY unemployment agent yourself.

•Worked for me after wasting hours trying to call myself. My issue got fixed that same day.

This totally happened to me! Had to wait about 5 weeks before it finally updated with the correct amounts. The system is soooo backed up lately. If you check your account and still see $0 after 6 weeks, definitely call them.

It's definitely an identity verification issue. The same thing happened to me and I freaked out thinking I wasn't going to get any benefits. I couldn't get through on the phone so I sent about 10 emails before someone finally contacted me. They had me upload my ID and social security card through their secure message system. Two days later everything was fixed and I had my correct benefit amount showing.

•Where did you send the emails? I've been trying the contact form on their website but no response for 2 weeks now

•I just kept using their contact form and putting "URGENT - IDENTITY VERIFICATION NEEDED" in the subject line. I think I just got lucky that someone saw it.

•Thanks for the tip. I'll try that today and see if it helps!

Pro tip: when you see this, it almost ALWAYS means there's a hold on your claim that needs manual review. The zeroes are there because the system can't calculate your benefit amount until a human looks at your claim. The message is their generic "we're working on it" response. Look, the NY unemployment system is completely overwhelmed right now. They're still processing thousands of claims from months ago. Your options are: 1. Wait (could be weeks or even months) 2. Call repeatedly until you get through (good luck...) 3. Email them through the contact form (hit or miss) 4. Use a service like Claimyr.com to get through to an agent (costs money but gets you past the busy signals) 5. Contact your state representative's office (they can sometimes help with unemployment issues) I had the exact same zeroes showing up and it took me weeks to find out my former employer had contested my claim even though I was clearly eligible. The system doesn't tell you ANY of this until you actually speak with someone. It's beyond frustrating. Once I finally got through to a real person, everything was fixed in about 10 minutes.

•Did your backpay come through once they fixed it? I'm worried about missing weeks.

•Yep, got all my backpay once they resolved the hold. They'll pay you from your eligibility date once it's fixed, not from when they fix the problem.

dont waste ur time waiting it out bro. they not gonna fix it unless you call and make them fix it. the system is completely busted. i had to call 48 times before I got through last week.

CHECK YOUR EMAIL FILTERS!!!!! I had this same issue and I missed their identity verification email because it went to spam! They give you like 7 days to respond and then they just put your account on hold with all zeros showing if you miss it.

•THIS!!!! Same thing happened to me! The email subject was something generic like "Action Required: Your NY.gov ID" and I totally missed it!

Lmaooo welcome to the wonderful world of ny unemployment 🤡 Where nothing makes sense and your benefits are made up! Seriously tho, call them asap. The longer you wait the longer itll take to fix

If you check your payment history and you see that $0.00 with the 104 days remaining and no explanation, it usually means one of a few things: - Identity verification issue (most common) - Your employer disputed your claim - There's a wage discrepancy they're investigating - You answered a question on your application that triggered manual review - Your claim got flagged by their fraud detection system Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to speak with an agent. The NY DOL phone system is notoriously difficult to get through - they're overwhelmed with calls. I spent three weeks trying to reach someone about a similar issue. Eventually I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that kept dialing for me and got me through to an agent. Once I finally spoke to someone, they fixed my issue in about 5 minutes - turns out they needed additional wage verification from my previous job. If calling isn't working, you can also try: 1. Using the secure message system on your DOL account 2. Reaching out on Twitter (@NYSLabor) 3. Contacting your state assembly member's office DON'T just wait and hope it resolves itself. That $0 won't magically turn into your benefit amount without intervention. Also, once it's fixed, make sure they backdate your payments to when you first became eligible.

•Thank you for this detailed breakdown! I'll try calling them tomorrow. Does Claimyr really work? I've never heard of it before.

•Yes, it worked for me after I wasted almost 3 weeks trying to get through myself. It's not free, but when you're looking at potentially thousands in benefits being held up, it was worth it for me. They basically just wait on hold for you and then transfer you when they get a human on the line.

it means your claim is PENDING. Could be becuz ur ID verification, could be becuz ur employer is contesting, could be a million things. Only way to find out is to call them but good luck getting through lolol

i had this happen and it was becuz my previous employer claimed i was fired for misconduct which was complete BS. i had to fight it and eventually won but took almost 2 months to get any $$. you need to call them asap!!

This happened to me too, exactly the same zeroes everywhere. Turned out that my claim needed to be transferred from my old state to NY since I had just moved here. Had to call about 50 times before getting through. The agent fixed it in like 5 minutes once I reached someone. So annoying that they don't just tell you what's wrong in the system.

•Did you get all your back payments once they fixed it?

•Yeah I got everything backdated to when I first applied. Took about a week for all the money to show up in my account after they fixed it.

Everyone saying "just call them" like it's easy 🤣 I had to use claimyr.com to get through after trying for 3 weeks straight with no luck. System is completely overloaded.

•100% worth it. They just do the calling and waiting on hold, then connect you to a real DOL agent. I was skeptical too but was desperate after weeks of failing to get through.

Mine showed this for weeks before I finally got through on the phone. Turned out they needed my birth certificate to verify my identity since their automated system couldn't match my records. Such a stupid system! Why couldn't they just EMAIL me that info instead of making me play detective?!

What did you put for your reason for separation from your last job? If you put anything that sounds remotely like misconduct or voluntarily quitting, it'll trigger a manual review and you'll see those zeros until they complete it.

•I put "contract ended" which should be straightforward. I was a temp worker and the assignment just ended.

•That should be fine then. Definitely a system issue or ID verification problem. You'll need to call them.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Filed in September and still seeing all zeros with that generic "continuing to work on application" message. It's so frustrating because there's literally no way to know what's actually wrong without getting through to someone on the phone. I've been calling every morning at 8am sharp but keep getting the busy signal or that automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume. Has anyone had luck calling at specific times of day? I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and try one of those callback services people are mentioning since this is going on week 6 for me now.

•Week 6?! That's absolutely ridiculous. I'm only at 3 weeks and already losing my mind. From what I've been reading in this thread, it seems like most people who got this resolved had to either get lucky with phone calls or use that Claimyr service everyone keeps mentioning. The early morning calls (8am) seem to be when most people have success, but honestly after reading all these responses I'm starting to think the callback service might be worth it. When you're potentially missing out on thousands in benefits, spending some money to actually get through might make sense. Have you tried checking your spam folder for any missed emails from them? A few people said they missed identity verification emails that way.
