NY unemployment payments not showing up this week - anyone else having issues?
So I've been claiming my weekly benefits without any problems for almost 3 months now. But suddenly this week, no payment has shown up in my account. It's been 4 days already when usually the money is there within 2 days after certification. My online account shows nothing pending and everything looks normal in the system - it says my claim was processed successfully. I've called at least 8 times over the past few days and every single time I just get the automated message saying they're experiencing high call volume and to try again later. No option to even wait on hold! Does anyone know what could be going on? Is anyone else not getting paid this week? And has anyone actually managed to talk to a real person about this? I'm getting really worried because rent is due next week and I was counting on this money.

Same boat here! No payment since Tuesday, which is super weird cause I've been getting paid regularly every week since April. The website shows everything is normal on my end too. I've called like 15 times today and just get the stupid robot voice telling me to call back later. This is so frustrating!

How long have you been trying to call? I'm starting to wonder if there's some kind of system-wide issue they're not telling us about...

Been trying since monday morning! From different numbers too 🤔 Starting to think something fishy is going on system-wide

They probably just don't have enough people to answer the phones. NY unemployment is a disaster right now.

After calling for two straight days and getting nowhere, I finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual human at unemployment. Talking to an agent got my payments unlocked within hours - turns out there was a random flag on my account that only a rep could remove. Best decision I made after banging my head against the wall for days. They have a youtube video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

How does that even work? Sounds too good to be true tbh

They basically keep calling for you and then connect you when a real person answers. Saved me like 5 hours of my life on hold. It was the only way I could actually get someone on the line after days of trying.

sounds like another money grab taking advantage of desperate people 🙄

Nah man it actually worked for me. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after not getting paid for almost 2 weeks. Got my issue resolved in one call after using their service.

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried calling like 30 times and just get the same robotic message

It worked for me! The thing is they just keep dialing for you automatically until they get through, then they call you. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast.

THIS IS HAPPENING TO EVERYONE!!! I've been in 3 fb groups for ny unemployment and literally hundreds of people are posting about missed payments this week. Something is definitely wrong with their system. I heard they're doing some kind of update but of course they didn't bother to tell anyone. Typical nysdol garbage 🙄

I finally got through yesterday after calling non-stop from 7:58am (right before they open). Took 126 attempts - I counted! The rep told me there's a massive backlog of claims they're processing because of some technical upgrade they did last weekend. She said payments should resume by next week but couldn't give me an exact date. So frustrating but at least I know what's going on now.

Thanks for sharing! At least theres some explanation. Did they say anything about if we'll get back pay for the delayed week?

Yeah they said all delayed payments will be processed, just might come in a separate deposit from your regular payment. And wow 126 calls is actually low compared to some ppl i know 😂

I work in IT and I can tell you what's probably happening. The unemployment systems run on ancient technology (like 1980s COBOL programs) and whenever they try to update anything, it causes a cascade of problems. Most states have been trying to modernize but it's like trying to repair a plane while it's flying. This happened in California too about 3 months ago - payments were delayed for almost 2 weeks during their system upgrade.

This explains so much. Why cant they just tell people whats happening instead of leaving us in the dark?

Because theyd have to admit how badly outdated their systems are 🤣 Seriously tho, government transparency isn't exactly their strong suit

Here's what I've learned after dealing with NY unemployment for way too long (going on 7 months now): - System delays like this happen at least once every couple months. They NEVER announce it beforehand. - If you need to actually talk to someone, don't waste time with the main number. Your best bet is to try calling right when they open (8am) or use claimyr.com which has saved me multiple times when I couldn't get through. - Always keep documentation of your weekly certifications (screenshots) in case something goes wrong. - The online message system is basically useless - I've never gotten a helpful response through it. - If your payment is delayed but nothing has changed with your claim, you'll usually get it eventually. It's when they actually have a specific problem with your claim that you need to worry. - If you're desperate, sometimes reaching out to your state representative's office can help get things moving. Hope this helps someone. The system is absolutely broken but unfortunately we're stuck with it. 😑

This is super helpful, thank you! Do you know how long these system delays typically last?

In my experience, usually 3-10 days. The longest one was last summer when some people waited almost 3 weeks, but that was an extreme case. Hang in there!

100% accurate. I've been through 3 of these "silent delays" now. So ridiculous.

Has anyone tried messaging them on Twitter? I've heard that sometimes works better than calling because they're worried about public image on social media.

I tried that last month for a different issue. They just sent back a generic "please call our helpline" response. Total waste of time.

I was having the same issue and ended up talking to someone today. Here's the weird part - they said my payment was delayed because I answered ONE certification question differently than I usually do (I said I looked for work on different days than normal). That somehow triggered a review flag. Check if you did anything differently on your last certification compared to previous weeks.

That's interesting! I don't think I answered anything differently, but maybe I made some small change without realizing it. How did you manage to get through to someone?

I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. claimyr.com - they got me connected to an agent in about 45 minutes. much better than me calling 100+ times!

just wanted to update everyone - my payment finally hit my account this morning! I never got through to anyone on the phone, it just suddenly appeared. Maybe they're working through the backlog now.

its bs that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get money we're legally entitled to. the whole system is designed to make people give up. if a private company operated this way theyd be out of business in a week.

My sister works for another state agency (not unemployment) and she said they got an internal memo that NYSDOL is implementing a new fraud detection system this month, and that's causing payment processing delays across the board. They're apparently reviewing claims more carefully now because of some big fraud ring they busted last month. Just passing along what I heard!

That actually makes sense with what the rep told me about system upgrades. Thanks for sharing this info!

Lol I wish! She just knows about the memo because it affected some cross-department stuff they were working on. Apparently its supposed to be a "temporary" delay but we all know how that goes with government agencies 🙃

I haven't gotten paid for TWO WEEKS now. Called my bank thinking maybe there was a problem on their end. Nope. Called unemployment over 50 times, no luck getting through. This is absolutely criminal - they can't just stop paying people with no explanation!!! People have bills to pay and families to feed!

might be worth trying Claimyr like others have mentioned, especially if you're going on 2 weeks now. that's too long

Anyone notice that this ALWAYS happens at the end of the month when rent is due? Makes you wonder if it's intentional to reduce how many people they have to pay... 🤔

Omg I thought I was the only one who noticed this pattern! 3rd time it's happened to me right before rent is due.

Nah its not intentional, just crappy timing. Government systems always run their updates/maintenance at month end because that's how their accounting cycles work.

FYI for everyone - I just spoke with someone (finally got through using claimyr.com after days of trying to call myself). They told me they're aware of widespread payment delays and are working to resolve them. The rep specifically said NOT to keep calling as it's overloading their system and making the backlog worse. They said most delayed payments should process within 72 hours.

They were vague but mentioned something about upgrading security measures and payment processing systems. Reading between the lines, sounds like they rushed out some updates that weren't fully tested.
